Chapter 279 Demon Monarch Mo Nan’s Arrival

The night was hazy, and the crescent moon hung high in the sky.

Meng Chuan flew high in the sky and looked down at the vast land. He could see the people who lived in the wilderness with his vision. Most of them hid when it was light outside and worked at night. As the adults worked, the children played by the side. Some practiced their fighting moves seriously.

“Hide when it’s light outside and work at night?” Meng Chuan muttered softly. “At night, the demon monarchs have reduced visibility. The night has become a form of protection. What a joke. All the cities have been abandoned.”

As Meng Chuan flew, he passed by county and prefecture cities. They were all completely dark; this darkness left Meng Chuan feeling stifled.

There are only a few large cities left in the Great Zhou Dynasty. Meng Chuan finally saw a large city. There were more than ten million people in the bustling city, but everyone in the city was equally worried. The news of a million demon monarchs invading the human world had long spread.

The Great Zhou Dynasty, including the seven large city passes, has a total of 61 large cities. The seven large city passes—Luo Tang Pass included-had populations of over 20 million. Ever since the migration began, large city passes—Calm Sea Pass, Swallow Mountain Pass, White Elephant Pass, etc.—had taken in over ten million people. Countless people in the wilderness live around the Great Zhou Dynasty’s 61 large cities. With large cities, there is hope. If they earn enough money, they can migrate to the city. If their children are talented enough, they can be sent to a Dao Academy for free. Even if their talent is average, they can spend money and send their children to a Dao Academy. The large cities are our hope. We have to protect them.

Meng Chuan looked down as he flew.

Down below, in an empty area, a child and a man sparred with each other.

Boom! A saber collided with another saber.

The child was sent flying backward and landed on the ground. A fierce look appeared in his eyes as he charged towards his father again.

“I’m stronger than you, so you shouldn’t have fought me head-on. In combat, you should use your strengths to attack the enemy’s weaknesses!” The man berated as he brandished his saber to suppress his son.

Pfft.

The child fell to the ground again. His forehead was full of sweat, and his face was bleeding.

The man shouted as he watched, “Again, as long as you master your basic saber techniques this year, you will be able to pass the Dao Academy’s assessment. I will sell everything I have and risk my life to send you to the city’s Dao Academy. If you can’t do it, you can spend the rest of your life in the wilderness with me. Don’t blame me for not giving you any hope in life.”

“Humph.” The child gritted his teeth and charged forward again.

High in the sky, Meng Chuan continued flying after watching this scene. He saw many similar scenes every day, but he was touched every time. He wanted to fulfill his dream of slaying all the demons in the world. If he succeeded, he would be extremely satisfied even if he lost his life. However, it was very difficult to achieve such a goal! The higher his cultivation was, the more he realized how difficult it was to kill all the demons in the world.

This is just a time of darkness. Dawn will arrive eventually.

Meng Chuan arrived back at Jiang State Capital. He ate dinner with his wife, Liu Qiyue, before entering seclusion.

Dong!

The Creation-realm alien corpse was directly placed in a chamber. Godfiends cultivated in similar chambers. It was rather large, so the 30-foot-long corpse was easily accommodated.

A Creation-realm alien that mainly cultivates the body? Meng Chuan looked at the corpse carefully. The alien was covered in layers of black scales. Even its face was covered in black scales. However, a large portion of its chest had been sliced open. There were no scales at the chest; bits of flesh had been lopped off, and no blood could be seen.

At the alien’s cultivation realm, any injuries should have healed instantly. Meng Chuan inspected the corpse carefully. This chest has been sliced open. It’s like the scales were removed after the alien died. Perhaps Archean Mountain seniors were trying to refine something out of the alien’s corpse?

The scales of a Creation-realm alien—that mainly cultivated the body-were definitely extraordinary. Just a piece of armor made up of the alien’s scales would have a shocking value.

Buzz!

An invisible aura fluctuation emanated from the corpse. However, it was ultimately a dead object. Meng Chuan’s Darkstar domain could easily restrain the aura fluctuations.

Clang. Meng Chuan pulled out Demon Slayer.

Oh? Meng Chuan looked at Demon Slayer in shock. The moment Demon Slayer was unsheathed, it began to tremble as it attempted to lunge toward the corpse.

“No rush.” Meng Chuan smiled as he swung his saber firmly. His saber was as fast as lightning as it cleaved down toward the alien’s scales.

When it was about an inch away from the scales, an invisible repulsive force repelled Demon Slayer.

Thankfully, Archean Mountain’s predecessors have already cut a portion of its corpse. Otherwise, I wouldn’t be able to damage the corpse at all. Meng Chuan laughed self-deprecatingly and extended Demon Slayer towards the huge wound on the alien corpse’s chest. He kept Demon Slayer close to the wound, and Demon Slayer trembled as it tried its best to absorb the blood. Finally, a drop of golden blood slowly flew out of the wound. The golden blood seemed extremely heavy; Demon Slayer barely absorbed it.

Chi! Chi! Chi!

The moment the golden blood touched Demon Slayer, golden patterns slowly extended from the blade’s body. Demon Slayer trembled as it absorbed the drop of blood excitedly.

Meng Chuan had substantial achievements with the physical body cultivation system. He had reached the Divine Power realm, then the Undying realm. Each successive realm had caused his body to undergo a qualitative transformation. A drop of blood from a Sage Becoming realm—which was equivalent to a Creation realm—was probably stronger than his entire body.

This drop of blood was extremely difficult for Demon Slayer Saber to absorb. It took an hour to absorb the drop of blood completely. It’s so difficult for even Demon Slayer to absorb it. Meng Chuan sighed inwardly. Even in Demon Slayer’s long history, it might not have absorbed a corpse of a physical body cultivation expert at the Creation realm.

Demon Slayer was an evil saber to begin with. This Creation-realm alien corpse wasn’t of this world. Only the three sects would have something like this in their possession. In the past, the three sects had no need to nurture an evil saber.

Demon Slayer continued absorbing the alien’s blood. After absorbing the alien’s blood for more than two hours, it stopped. It seemed to be satiated for the time being.

Demon Slayer has to digest the blood slowly. I’ll let it absorb more tomorrow. Meng Chuan was looking forward to seeing Demon Slayer’s changes after it completely absorbed the Creation-realm alien corpse.

Days passed.

Another evening.

Meng Chuan returned to Lake Heart Pavilion and had dinner with his wife, Liu Qiyue.

Huh? Meng Chuan and Liu Qiyue turned to stare into the distance.

An illusory figure walked over from a distance. It was dressed in a black robe and had a skinny face. Its yellow eyes were smiling as it stepped foot on Lake Heart Pavilion.

Meng Chuan and his wife stood up and walked out.

“Demon monarch?” Meng Chuan asked.“Greetings, Marquis Eastcalm, Marchioness Calmmoon.” The illusory black-robed figure bowed slightly.

“This is the first time I’ve seen a demon monarch embodiment. I wonder which greater demon monarch you are,” said Meng Chuan. He had seen the embodiments of Qin Wu and Luo Tang. Embodiments could be produced after attaining a fifth-level Essence Soul. An embodiment didn’t have any offensive means. However, demons had all sorts of strange divine powers. Perhaps a fourth Firmament demon monarch might have an embodiment.

The black-robed illusory figure smiled and said, “My name is Mo Nan. I’m here to invite Marquis Eastcalm and Marchioness Calmmoon to join us demons.”

“Join the demons?” Meng Chuan scoffed. “Why should I, a human, join the demons?”

“Why is the Skydemon Sect willing to fight for the demons?” said the black-robed illusory figure with a smile. “It’s precisely because our Imperial Lords have sent the Demon Sacred Monument from outer space to the Skydemon Sect. On the Sacred Monument is our demons’ promise to the humans that we will allow the Skydemon Sect to rule ten percent of the world forever, ensuring the human race’s survival. From then on, the Godfiend cultivation system will be abolished and humans will only follow the Skydemon cultivation system. The human race will become one of the demon’s Hundred Races, becoming a part of the demons.”

Meng Chuan and Liu Qiyue looked at each other.

“Humanity will definitely lose the war between humans and demons,” said the illusory black-robed figure. “Since you will definitely lose, why must you send yourselves to your deaths? You can lead your clansmen and continue living happily. As long as no new Godfiends are born, the demons will allow you to exist. Once you die of old age, there will naturally be no more Godfiends.”

The black-robed figure smiled. “Wouldn’t it be good if you, your wife, your clansmen, and your descendants can live carefree lives?”
