Immortality Through Array Formations

Chapter 2468: Chapter 10: Scrambling for Food

On the morning of the third day, before dawn had even broken, Mo Hua had already packed his luggage.

He handed a Jade Slip to his mother Liu Ruhua and said:

”Mom, inside this Jade Slip are some insights on Foundation Establishment. I’ve summed them all up. Read it when you have time and cultivate properly. Dad has already reached Foundation Establishment, but you’re still at the Qi Refining Ninth Level. You must have been slacking off usually and not putting your mind into cultivation. That won’t do. Cultivation is like rowing upstream—if you’re not advancing, you’re falling back. If you slack off, you’ll fall one step behind, then step by step further behind...”

”You must work hard at cultivation. Cultivation is the foundation of a Cultivator. Only if your cultivation is higher will your body be better, your lifespan longer in the future, and you’ll also spare me from constantly worrying...”

Mo Hua exhorted her with a serious face.

Liu Ruhua flushed red.

At the side, Mo Shan also felt a bit helpless and amused.

In other families, it was always the parents urging their son to cultivate; when it came to Mo Hua, it was turned around, with him urging his father and mother instead.

Having said all this, Mo Hua had nothing else left to instruct.

He checked his Storage Bag once more, making sure the jerky and pastries his mother had made for him were all inside. Then he turned to look at his own room, looked at his home, and felt a twinge of reluctance in his heart.

Looking at the child who was about to leave home, Liu Ruhua’s heart ached, and she couldn’t help pulling Mo Hua into her arms, softly reminding him:

”You must take good care of yourself.”

”If you run into danger, don’t you dare try to be a hero. If you can run, then run. Keeping your life is what matters. In this world, there is nothing more important than your life.”

”If you ever feel tired, just come home. Mom will always be here waiting for you...”

”Mm...” Mo Hua nodded softly.

Liu Ruhua gave Mo Hua another long look, hesitated for a moment, then finally spoke:

”Zisheng and... Zixi, those two children, I still miss them quite a bit... While you were studying in Qian State, did you ever run into them?”

Zixi especially loved eating the pastries Liu Ruhua made.

Bai Zisheng was greedy for food and had always kept thinking about acknowledging Liu Ruhua as his godmother.

The brother and sister had even come to Mo Hua’s home as guests before.

What’s more, they were also Mo Hua’s Junior Brother and Senior Sister; the three of them in the Sect were as close as siblings.

Liu Ruhua also liked these two children very much and kept them in her thoughts.

At her words, Mo Hua was slightly stunned. In his mind surfaced that hazy, graceful silhouette of a woman he had glimpsed in passing when he left the Qianxue State Boundary aboard the Cloud Ferry at the point where the cloud veins diverged, and that peerlessly beautiful face seen through a veil, like an epiphyllum blooming for but an instant. He muttered inwardly:

”That person... was that my Senior Sister...”

”It should be, right?”

”If that’s the case... then the Heavenly secret Calculation, that feeling that I would regret it if I didn’t choose that old Cloud Ferry, was because I would get to see Senior Sister?”

”The Cloud Ferry being slower just happened to let it catch up with Senior Sister’s?”

”It’s just a pity... when the Cloud Ferries crossed, it was only for a brief moment. After that one glance, I didn’t even have time to take a proper look at what Senior Sister looks like now...”

Mo Hua felt a bit desolate in his heart.

”Huar?”

Seeing Mo Hua lost in thought, Liu Ruhua softly called to him.

”Oh,” Mo Hua came back to himself and shook his head, ”I haven’t run into them yet...”

”Is that so...” Liu Ruhua’s gaze dimmed. A moment later, she looked up at Mo Hua, and said with some worry, ”Zixi... her family’s status isn’t simple, is it...”

As the saying goes, you can see the grown-up from the child.

Their feelings for each other could already be seen a little when they were young.

They themselves, having grown up together as childhood sweethearts, always staying together, might not even be aware of it, but how could Liu Ruhua, as his mother, possibly not see?

Yet the difference in their identities was simply too great.

Liu Ruhua felt both guilty that, as his mother, she hadn’t given Mo Hua a good background,

and distressed for these two children, afraid that in the future, even if their hearts were bound to each other, they would still have to endure the grinding of worldly rules and taste all kinds of hardship and bitterness.

Mo Hua seemed to see what Liu Ruhua was thinking and gently comforted her: ”Mom, don’t worry. You don’t need to trouble yourself over these things...”

Liu Ruhua nodded, but her brows and eyes remained lowered; clearly she still couldn’t set her mind at ease.

Mo Hua glanced at Liu Ruhua, then at Mo Shan. After pondering for a moment, he suddenly said:

”Dad, Mom, how about... you give me another little brother or sister? The house would be livelier too...”

Liu Ruhua’s face instantly flushed bright red. ”What are you saying, you child...”

Even the usually steady Mo Shan wore a helpless expression.

But the sorrow of parting was indeed diluted quite a bit.

Once Mo Hua had finished packing everything, he took one last look at his parents, then bowed deeply and said:

”Dad, Mom, your child is going out to temper himself and seek Core Formation. You must take good care of yourselves and look after your health.”

”Mm.” Mo Shan nodded.

Liu Ruhua’s eyes were moist as she reminded him again, ”You must also take good care of yourself.”

”Mm!”

Reluctant as he was, Mo Hua still turned resolutely and left home.

Husband and wife, Mo Shan and Liu Ruhua, stood at the gate of their old home, supporting each other as they watched Mo Hua journey into the distance.

Mo Hua could feel two lingering, affectionate gazes always resting on him.

He felt a little guilty in his heart.

There is a saying: while your parents are alive, do not travel far. Yet he had no choice but to keep leaving his hometown behind, roaming outside for the sake of cultivation.

But in this world, there is no such thing as a completely perfect good thing.

A person must constantly make choices.

Since he had set his heart on the Great Dao, he ought to be single-minded in his cultivation, not letting down his parents’ expectations, and attain Core Formation as soon as possible, becoming the first Golden Core Great Cultivator in the history of Tongxian City.

”Golden Core...”

Mo Hua’s heart gradually calmed, his resolve firming. He buried his longing for his homeland and his concern for his parents deep in his heart, and all alone, set foot on the road toward Core Formation.

Dawn had yet to break; the last of the night lay in hazy gloom.

Most of the cultivators in Tongxian City were still lost in dreams.
