The Daily Life Of A Cyberpunk Magician

Chapter 595 - 304: Magic: Flying Knife Game_2
Before, these people had said that he might survive, even if it was an extremely slim possibility. He wanted to live!

”Of course, this is a game, and every game must have victory conditions.” Smiley seemed very pleased with the chairman’s reaction and continued to state the chairman’s victory conditions, ”I will release the restraint on your right hand, which means your right hand can move. If you can catch my flying knife, you can also ask me a question. Since that’s the case, I won’t throw the knife at your lower body.”

He smiled under his mask, ”Rest assured, I promise you that I will answer truthfully, how about it?”

”Can I ask anything?” The chairman was momentarily stunned, a glimmer of hope for survival sprouting in his heart.

If he could ask anything...

Could he possibly ask Smiley where exactly they were?

If Smiley mentioned the location on camera, the police would see it, and he might be rescued!

”Yes, you can ask anything,” Smiley nodded, ”So, are you interested in this game?”

”Fine, I’ll play,” the chairman gritted his teeth and agreed on the spot.

He had heard of the Deception Group and was somewhat familiar with their deeds.

Clearly, the Deception Group’s intent was not to finish this one job and then disappear; they would surely care about their public credibility.

Which means...

If he really could catch it, the people from the Deception Group couldn’t really kill him on camera, could they?

And he might truly be able to catch that flying knife; he was confident in his ability.

The ”Calm” trait allowed him to stay composed in the face of life and death, the ”Focused” trait enabled him to immerse more easily into this game, and his body had been maintained at the vigor of a young adult through various devices and medications...

Most crucially, his prosthetic eye was almost the highest grade. Although it wasn’t specialized in dynamic capture, it could still easily notice objects moving at high speeds.

He should be able to catch a flying knife propelled simply by human force!

Even if his hand got pierced, it wouldn’t matter as long as he could survive. Such a choice wasn’t hard to make.

”Begin.” The chairman’s right hand was freed from its restraint, the extended binding causing some stiffness in his muscles, so he swiftly moved his right hand, trying to restore its vigor.

”Okay, then watch...” Smiley nodded, took a flying knife from his bosom, and without hesitation, threw it swiftly, not continuing until after the knife was thrown, ”Here I come.”

He skillfully used his speech to divert the chairman’s attention, then instantly threw the flying knife.

”Snap—”

No fanciful movements— the flying knife just lodged itself two inches from the chairman’s ear.

”What?!” The chairman furrowed his brow deeply. He had been slightly distracted, listening to what Smiley was going to say next, but at the same time, the knife had come so fast he couldn’t react in time, ”You! You distracted me!”

”Yes, so what? That’s not outside the rules, is it?” Smiley chuckled, ”Now, it’s my turn to ask you a question.”

”Go ahead.” The chairman was a bit resentful but didn’t show it.

He had indeed been careless this time, but next time, he would definitely concentrate.

”Liu Sheng, exactly how was he killed?” Smiley asked in a calm tone.

”I did it,” the chairman answered, expecting this question.

Hughes was here too, Hughes had witnessed the murder, so lying on this matter would be pointless.

Moreover, if he lied and the lie detector showed a green light, then the Deception Group would know the lie detector couldn’t detect his lies, which could put him at a disadvantage.

So, he had already prepared to tell the truth on this issue.

Under the threat of life, there were no legal consequences for the statements made by the accused here. That meant he could admit to killing Liu Sheng without any legal repercussions, as long as he could leave this place.

”At that party, that guy openly defied my orders, which really pissed me off, so I smashed his head with an ashtray,” the chairman admitted in one breath, ”I didn’t expect him to actually die.”

Smiley glanced at a button, which showed a green light.

That meant, at that moment, the chairman was telling the truth.

This statement spread throughout Thirteen District via live broadcast, with the chairman’s indifference deeply hurting every common person.

They, like Liu Sheng, were merely laborers at the lower levels of society. If the chairman could kill Liu Sheng on a whim without punishment, did that also mean he could kill them?

In a certain tavern.

”Damn it, what the hell!” A burly man slammed his sturdy mug on the table, quite indignantly, ”These damned capitalists don’t treat us like humans at all!”

”That’s right, it’s because I couldn’t stand the look on their faces that I threw away my Character Card job and became a Wanderer here,” someone else chimed in from across the room.
