The Daily Life Of A Cyberpunk Magician

Chapter 591 - 302 Welcome to Thirteen District, Police Chief Chris. (Major Chapter 7000)_4
His pace quickened, feeling the urgent need to transfer some stock to the warehouse on the other side. If he continued to keep it here, it would be wasteful to lose it all to gunfire.

After about ten minutes, members of the Taigong Dynasty burst into Jes’s fruit store, their expressions edged with anxiety. They immediately started taking photos of the merchandise, and the leader came over to explain, ”Hurry, Uncle, come with us to the shelter. Taigong Ninth Street is already under fire.”

”Ah? Oh!” Jes was momentarily stunned. He tried to recall which street had been renamed to Taigong Ninth Street and remembered quickly—it was just five blocks away from this street, at a distance of roughly two to three thousand meters.

Does that mean the fighting is intense?

Jes hurried along with them, intending to lock the store, but the leader stopped him.

”We need to requisition your store, don’t worry. All losses will be covered by the Taigong Dynasty,” the leader explained. Then he commanded Willie, who just joined the squad, ”Willie, you know Uncle here, right? Take him to the shelter.”

”Yes,” Willie responded briskly and he then approached Jes, ”Let’s go, Uncle Jes. Follow me.”

”Alright.” Jes nodded. He touched the handgun at his waist; in times like these, only a handgun could give him a sense of security.

As he left his fruit store, Uncle Jes heard gunfire echoing from a distant place.

In Zone F, hearing gunfire was not uncommon, but the continuous, relentless gunfire was unusual, and it was a type of gunfire Jes hadn’t heard before.

It sounded like the report of a large caliber gun, still so clear despite the distance.

A worried look flashed in his eyes. He was quite satisfied with his current life; what if it was overtaken by Garcia’s people? Would he have to return to his former way of living?

”Alas...” Uncle Jes sighed deeply.

——

The banquet was still going on but had nearly reached its end, and everyone was in a state of being well-fed and drunk.

Although most of the police officers here adored Police Chief Wolf, their sense of unfamiliarity with Police Chief Chris diminished after this meal.

Chris wasn’t a fool. On the contrary, his intelligence and emotional quotient were both high, and he deliberately displayed a unique charisma in his behavior.

Most of the officers wouldn’t resist the decisions from above. They silently accepted this reality throughout the banquet.

Even if they didn’t accept it, what could it change?

The position of Police Chief couldn’t be changed overnight; they were just minor cops and naturally couldn’t meddle in the murky waters of high-level power struggles.

”Ladies and gentlemen, the banquet is nearing its end,” Police Chief Chris stood up again, looking toward the front of the banquet hall, then pressed a button.

With a whirring sound of electronics starting up, a metallic wall at the front of the hall slowly parted, revealing the large floor-to-ceiling windows outside.

Looking from one end of the banquet hall to the other, it appeared very spacious.

”From here you can see Zone E and part of Zone F. The night view here is still quite beautiful. Please follow me.” Police Chief Chris walked to the floor-to-ceiling window. Standing high up and looking down, the street view below was fully visible.

There was a thrill of superiority from this vantage point.

The sitting officers also got up one by one and came to the window, looking out towards Thirteen District.

Living and working in Thirteen District for so long, they had never seen it from this perspective before.

”Police Chief Wolf, our Thirteen District looks beautiful, doesn’t it?” Police Chief Chris walked over to Wolf, smiling.

”Indeed,” Wolf ignored the cunning subtlety in his words and just watched the streets below.

He glanced at the time.

It was already six-thirty.

Wait, what is that place...

Wolf squinted towards the distance, in the direction of Zone F.

He could vaguely see flames.

Years of policing experience told him that was the flash from gun muzzles.

So, is there a street battle happening?

”Boom—” Suddenly, a blue light flashed in that direction, followed by towering flames in that block, with the explosion producing the only sound.

”That’s... an Electromagnetic Gun!” Wolf exclaimed, recognizing the weapon.

Electromagnetic cannons, large-caliber and silently firing without smoke or light, are undetectable if well hidden.

Clearly, these were banned powerful weapons.

At the same time, a blinding laser streaked past and another building in that direction collapsed, issuing a faint rumbling sound.

Everyone present was stunned, and Police Chief Chris looked particularly amazed, as he too recognized what these weapons were...

Aren’t these weapons strictly regulated?

Why are they in the Thirteenth District, and why now!?

At that moment, one of Chris’s confidants placed a Simulated Light Screen in front of him, ”Police Chief, the president of the Sages Group has been kidnapped. The Deception Group has claimed responsibility.”

”What?!” Chris was even more shocked; he had heard of the dreaded Deception Group, a high-IQ criminal gang active in both the Seventh and Thirteenth Districts, which both police stations had failed to handle...

Even Chief Tang had not managed to capture all of them.

Why would the Deception Group be interested in the president of the Sages Group?

And how had they captured him so easily?

”Didn’t I have you assign people to watch over him?” Chris asked through clenched teeth.

”Police Chief, the Sages Group doesn’t trust our people; we could only screen for suspicious individuals outside the building... It’s very inefficient.” The confidant was helpless; they wanted to protect, but the president was unwilling.

After all, they had been betrayed by undercover officers before.

”Damn it,” Chris cursed.

But things weren’t about to end there; the confidant then displayed a live stream, continuing, ”Police Chief, additionally, the Deception Group has started this live stream; they seem to be planning to execute the president of the Sages Group publicly like before.”

”How dare they!” Even though he was new, Chris understood the seriousness of the situation and started to panic, ”Quick, shut down this live stream.”

The confidant replied helplessly, ”I already had the police’s White Hat attempt it, but he said... the live stream is protected by hackers, and he simply can’t shut it down. Contacting the officials of Pili Pili was useless too, rather, many people have received notifications about it.”

”Why didn’t you tell me earlier?” Chris grew more anxious.

”I sent the information to you privately, didn’t you see it...?” The confidant felt wronged; he didn’t want to say it openly as it might be discouraging, and delivering privately, Chris didn’t check or catch his hint.

”Boom—” The bombing sounds in the distance continued, indicating that it would definitely be a wild night.

”Police Chief Chris, there’s another matter.” Another confidant hesitated but still spoke up, ”The ’Torch’ religious group from the First District has reached the Thirteenth District. They are demonstrating near the Seges Building, but the situation... the local security services are losing control.”

For a moment, Chris felt breathless.

He was indeed among the elite, but with so many major incidents occurring as soon as he took over, he felt overwhelmed.

Before him, a massive street battle involving the use of large-scale weapons like laser cannons and electromagnetic guns was unfolding; who knows how many would die.

In the distance, the Deception Group had also joined in, kidnapping the president of the Sages Group in a swift move.

Plus, the religious organization ”Torch” from the First District had started to protest...

Watching Chris’s dark expression, Wolf couldn’t help but smile.

It wasn’t that he thought the chaos in the Thirteenth District was good; he often dealt with such turmoil here, having experienced similar events before, but today it just happened to coincide.

This was a normal situation for the Thirteenth District.

So, he smiled slightly and thought to himself,

”Welcome to the Thirteenth District, Police Chief Chris.”
