The Daily Life Of A Cyberpunk Magician

Chapter 589 - 302 Welcome to District 13, Police Chief Chris. (7000 Volumes)_2
In a smaller sense, now that he had familiarized himself with these police officers, Chris was certainly harboring resentment in secret, and who knows, he might retaliate against the police later; in a larger sense, this was also unfit for Chris’s rule.

If the Thirteen District Police Station suffered from dissent and moral disintegration, then the security level of the Thirteen District would decline, and in the end, it’s the ordinary people who would suffer.

Just because he personally disliked Chris wouldn’t make Wolf want to cause trouble for the Thirteen District.

At most, he would be subjected to some cold shoulders, but having been a police officer for almost twenty years, Wolf certainly wasn’t devoid of the courage to handle even that.

At this time, Wolf also saw the message that Jiang Shu sent him.

The message was a video, capturing the surroundings of Jiang Shu; it seemed like he had arrived in the Seventh District and was inquiring about the situation over at Wolf’s location.

Fortunately, Jiang Shu had gone back and hadn’t come to the banquet.

Wolf was well aware that although Jiang Shu seemed approachable, he was also vengeful and had Jiang Shu really attended the banquet and performed his magic, he would definitely have maliciously toyed with Chris.

That was Jiang Shu’s special trick.

Although Wolf also wanted to see Chris lose face completely, in the long run, a police chief in the station without any prestige was not compatible with the development of work.

If the police chief were a total dunce, then it wouldn’t matter, but clearly, with his many skills, Chris was not a dunce.

Even if his personality was somewhat stubborn.

”Police Chief Wolf, how could you be sitting in the corner?” At this moment, Chris also walked into the banquet hall, his gaze sweeping the area until he caught sight of Wolf in the corner.

Having not experienced much of worldly wisdom, he naturally didn’t know that Wolf had done so deliberately and even thought that the police officers from the station were naturally keeping away from Wolf simply because his promotion had failed.

So, Chris appeared quite triumphant, as if he had won a battle.

”Hmm, Police Chief Chris, I’ve been a police officer for so long, I’m used to sitting in the corner, it’s easier to observe everything, isn’t it?” Wolf casually responded to Chris, giving some reasons not even he believed.

”Alright, Police Chief Wolf, then I wish you a pleasant meal ahead of time.” Seeing this, Chris didn’t say much else; instead, he walked over to a table in the center of the banquet hall, where all the people he had brought into the Thirteen District Police Station were seated.

”Welcome, colleagues of the Thirteen District, to the banquet. Today, I am honored to stand here as your police chief.” Chris began his short speech, but Wolf did not continue listening as his attention was soon occupied by a piece of news in his prosthetic eye.

”Today, the group ’Ember’ (formerly known as ’Wildfire’) has reached the Thirteen District through the ’Great Migration’ movement. Their leader announced publicly that they would fully promote the implementation of the new version of the Labor Law, the ’New Brad Bill,’ in an attempt to prevent recurrence of the Sages Group incident...”

Wolf furrowed his brow, he had heard of this ”Wildfire”; it was somewhat of a semi-religious organization that had been active in promoting the ”Labor Law”.

From what they had done, Wolf did not feel aversion toward them, but he did not like their semi-religious structure.

He always felt it was easy for extremists to emerge and that if this type of organization was not controlled by the Social Sequence, it would eventually brew major trouble.

Even now, it seemed that trouble had already begun.

These so-called ”Ember” members had traveled thousands of miles from the First and Second Districts to the Thirteen District, surely not just for a performance art.

If their true intentions were not discerned soon, the Thirteen District would face major chaos.

Instinctively, Wolf began to worry for the Thirteen District, but halfway through his thoughts, he saw Chris, the police chief standing in the center of the banquet hall, and he shrugged his shoulders, deciding not to think further.

Thinking was of no use; now the person speaking for the Thirteen District Police Station was Chris, not old Tang. If he were to say anything, it would always seem like overstepping his bounds.

Let Chris deal with the headache; being parachuted in, his abilities definitely wouldn’t be subpar.

At this moment, Chris had finished his brief talk, and the banquet officially started as robot waiters pushed their carts over.

Wolf glanced at the expensive dishes on the table and couldn’t help but smile.

Perhaps, having such a well-off person as police chief wasn’t so bad?

At least the treatment of these police officers might improve, and the police station might not face financial difficulties like during Tang Hexun’s period anymore.

But speaking of it, old Tang still hadn’t sent any messages out.

This worried Wolf, but there was nothing he could do, and ultimately all his anxieties could only be transformed into a long sigh.

—

Uncle Jes suddenly shut off the Simulated Light Screen and cast his puzzled gaze towards the street outside the fruit shop.

He thought he heard noisy shouting outside, tumultuous and boisterous.

It was now five-thirty in the afternoon, exactly dinnertime, but there were no fast-food restaurants nearby, so it should not be this noisy at this time.

Could it be that someone was causing trouble here again?

Uncle Jes slightly furrowed his brow, but then he dismissed the thought.

This was the main street of the Taigong Dynasty’s influence, and since the people of Taigong had come here, there were no more unruly ruffians or ”drug abusers” on this street anymore.
