Chapter 27 - 26 The Disciple Leader Gives Up Thinking
Chapter 27: Chapter 26 The Disciple Leader Gives Up ThinkingThe Tablet Spirits and Disciples were in a storeroom, where a hooligan with multi-colored hair was idly scrolling through short videos on a Simulated Light Screen at the center of the room.

Behind him was a passage that seemed to lead to the lower decks of the ship, and he appeared to be guarding the entrance.

When he saw Disciple, he suddenly screamed in terror, ”Keith! Keith is back!”

But Disciple didn’t respond to him and swiftly swung a blade, chopping him in half, separating the chunks of his body and causing blood to gush out in an extremely gruesome scene.

Following the doorman’s shout, many people emerged from the lower deck of the ship. Unlike the doorman, these people all had various prosthetics and carried various weapons; Jiang Shu saw a lot of firearms among them.

Here, by the river, was Thirteen District’s D area, a Gun-free Zone.

Generally, each jurisdiction A, B, C, and D area in Lonely City was a gun-free zone, more developed; E and F areas were not gun-free, with more lax control hence more chaotic.

”Kei... Keith!” the leader stammered, stunned upon seeing Disciple, and incredulously asked the person beside him, ”Isn’t he suffering from Cyber Syndrome? Didn’t I tell you to throw him in the river?”

”Disciple leader... I don’t know, I injected them with Calm and just threw the three of them in the river that day, and you saw it too,” stammered the man next to him.

Disciple leader extended his hand, and a hand cannon emerged from his wrist, aimed at Disciple Keith, ”Keith, since you’ve recovered, I’ll allow you to rejoin our Disciples, as for this guy...”

He glanced at the doorman on the ground, dead with his eyes wide open, and said indifferently, ”I can overlook this matter.”

Honestly, the Disciple leader’s actions had already given him enough face.

Previously, they had experimented with three people, installing a full set of Hercules, but the one who lasted the longest developed Cyber Syndrome on the ninth day; they had no choice but to dispose of these three people.

Cyber Syndrome causes patients to exhibit intermittent fits of madness with a strong desire to destroy; as the illness progresses, the frequency of the fits increases, eventually becoming the norm.

Moreover, with the current medical level in Lonely City, this mental illness is incurable; even removing prosthetics can only delay the condition, not cure it completely.

The Disciple leader, too, had reluctantly given them up only when their condition worsened to the last moment, both publicly and privately, it was justifiable; they were a dark organization, not a charity home, naturally, they couldn’t afford to maintain patients.

”Swoosh—” A cold light flashed, Keith expressionlessly swung his blade cutting off Disciple leader’s hand cannon, then turned and charged headlong into the crowd.

”Bang, bang, bang, bang—” Gunshots merged into a continuous noise, and Keith was instantly riddled with bullets; at such a close range, even subdermal titanium armor couldn’t have withstood the barrage.

”Damn it!” cursed the Disciple leader, then looked at his severed left hand, ”Crap, I need to buy a new prosthetic again.”

”Disciple leader, was the noise we just made a bit too loud?” a subordinate cautiously stepped forward to remind.

The Disciple leader frowned, he hadn’t thought about muffling the gunfire; the noise here had probably carried quite far.

”Let’s go, we’ll discuss the prison break later,” the Disciple leader decided, ”go call the captain to start the ship, we’ll head downstream to hide for a while.”

But suddenly, in the next second, countless lights surrounded them, illuminating their transport ship brightly.

”What’s going on!?” Disciple shouted in surprise, but he reacted quickly, instantly dropping to the ground, ”Get down and pull the curtains!”

The next second, bullets poured in through the windows, explosions of gunfire erupted, and stray bullets bounced around inside the cabin, knocking down three or four disciples who hadn’t managed to get down after just one round of shooting.

The remaining disciples crouched down and then pulled the curtains.

”You go get weapons! I’ll start the ship!” Disciple barked decisively, directing the underlings around him, ”Inform the people below to bring the shipborne rapid-fire cannon and the Metal Storm up!”

”Yes.” The person beside him didn’t question, just followed the order.

Disciple looked around him, seeing his men busy at work, then he crouched toward a corner of the storeroom. From a rusty old safe, he pulled out a box and stuffed it into the storage slot in his chest, then quickly exited the storeroom through a hidden passage and dashed towards the captain’s cabin.

In the box were Black Silver, a full two kilograms of it. If anything on the ship was valuable, it was this Black Silver, besides the ship itself. The armaments, though valuable, couldn’t possibly be taken with them.

Disciple knew very well that today, he was the only one who could leave this ship alive. He had just peeked outside through the curtains during a lull in the gunfire; the shore was densely packed with people, and the uniforms were both black and blue.

The black uniforms were the police station’s, while the blue ones belonged to the Terrorism Control Bureau, which meant that the police and the Terrorism Control Bureau had jointly planned this operation against them.

”Damn, that wily fox was right,” Disciple swore, feeling aggrieved by the sensation of being manipulated.

The police and the Terrorism Control Bureau’s complexities in their departments meant that a few pieces of military hardware weren’t enough to prompt them to collaborate; he didn’t know what the fox had done exactly, but it certainly wasn’t anything good.

Disciple ran into the captain’s cabin. He didn’t glance at the control panel but instead pulled open a side door of the captain’s cabin, where a vertical escape pod stood.

The escape pod was about the size of a coffin, with an extremely tough outer shell, equipped with oxygen tanks sufficient for more than five hours of survival underwater, and a simple propulsion system at the tail allowed it to move slowly.

”I’ll sink into the river and hide first, then activate the escape pod to escape once they’ve gone.” With this thought, he stepped into the escape pod and pressed the button in his hand.

He had already set up timed explosives on the ship; once the ship exploded, there would be no evidence of his death, and he would use this opportunity to escape from the Mechanical Disciples. With the two kilograms of Black Silver, he could assume a new identity in another district and live a wealthy’s luxurious life.

Everything was going according to plan.

”Bang, bang, bang—” Gunfire erupted at the midsection of the transport ship, clearly signaling that the Violent Terror Mobile Team had boarded the ship.

He closed the pod door and then shut his eyes, feeling the escape pod being launched into the Gu River by the transport ship’s deployment mechanism. According to the pre-set program, he should now be in the middle of Gu River, hundreds of meters away from the original transport ship. It was a very safe distance, and no matter what, the police wouldn’t be able to find him there.

Due to his limited funds, this escape pod didn’t have the capability to observe the outside world; besides its full protective functionality, it had no other features, yet it still cost him half of his life savings.

Now, all he needed to do was to wait for three or four hours.

With this thought, he calmly closed his eyes.

Disciple gave up on thinking.
