Earth's Greatest Magus

The first batch of civilians had been the luckiest, traversing the harsh sand desert with minimal resistance, thanks to the sheer number of warriors guarding them and their swift pace. However, the same could not be said for the subsequent groups. The massive exodus had not gone unnoticed, and the surrounding orc forces had begun to gather and retaliate.

Reports flooded into the command center in quick succession.

“The Dustmaw Tribe is chasing the second batch! The Redblade Tribe has joined them!”

Another report followed almost immediately.

“Commander, the third batch is under attack as well! It’s the Ironhide Tribe!”

These tribes were not ordinary orc clans. Trained and organized by the elves, they were elite warriors, each numbering in the tens of thousands. Their sheer numbers and ferocity were overwhelming for the magus squad guarding the caravans. A single team of magus would not be enough to stop such a tide.

Without hesitation, Commander Shahi sprang into action. She swiftly ordered all available warriors into the field and turned to Emery to follow up with the plan.

Emery immediately conjured a spatial gate, linking their outpost to the location of the second batch, which was under siege 200 miles away. The shimmering portal flared with energy as two magus squads and 100 warriors stepped through, their weapons drawn and their resolve steeled for battle.

The scene on the other side was chaotic. The Dustmaw Tribe’s hulking warriors bore down on the caravan, their monstrous roars echoing across the sands, while the Redblade Tribe flanked, aiming to cut off the civilians’ escape routes. The reinforcements, led by the magus squads, charged into the fray without hesitation, aiming to buy the civilians precious time to escape.

Opening a spatial gate to a location 200 miles away was a manageable task, but the third batch presented a greater challenge. Their location, 700 miles away, was well beyond a single casting’s range. Fortunately, Emery had anticipated such scenarios. During his initial journey through the desert, he had installed stone formations at strategic points along the path. These anchors allow him to extend the gate’s reach efficiently.

With the formations activated, Emery created a sequence of gates to bridge the distance. He sent the two acolyte groups to respond to the threat. Emery entrusted Klea and Magus Zulu to watch over the 100 acolytes.

Grand Magus Shahi, observing his decision, voiced her concern.

“Are you sure about this? Sending only the acolytes? Perhaps you should join them”

Emery met her gaze with calm determination. “I believe in them, They’re ready.”

“Are you sure about this? Sending only the acolytes? Perhaps you should join them”

Emery met her gaze with calm determination. “I believe in them, They’re ready.”

He knew that the acolytes had grown stronger since their initial training, and their collective power would be enough to hold off the tribes, at least long enough for the civilians to escape. Besides, if worse came to worst, Emery had contingencies in place.

With his Khaos hub, Emery could monitor the battle, maintaining a connection with Shinta and the others. If the elves themselves decided to intervene, he could quickly step in. Alternatively, Grand Magus Agave, the Shaman was stationed just 300 miles from their location and could be summoned to provide additional support.

“We still need to send more scouts,” Grand Magus Shahi insisted, her tone carrying a mix of urgency and authority.

Emery, however, met her concerns with a calm smile. “Don’t worry, Commander. I’ve already taken care of it.”

Her brows furrowed. “Who did you send? Which group?”

Emery’s confidence stemmed from two critical advantages. First, from Lyanna he knew that the elven forces had not yet committed their full might to stop the exodus. Second, he had a secret group that ensured unmatched surveillance: the Chizpur brothers.

The five mature Chizpurs—Chika, Chiki, Chike, Chiko, and several of their newest sibling—formed a formidable scouting force. These stone creatures had grown immensely since their first creation, both in intelligence and capability. Under Emery’s command, they led small units of their own, each tasked with monitoring one of five zones within a 1,000-mile radius.

Their presence was more than just a physical deterrent. With the [One Mind] ability, the Chizpurs operated as extensions of Emery’s own consciousness, making them his perfect eyes and ears in the vast desert.

“It’s my time to act!”

With Grand Magus Shahi maintaining order at the Ruin City Outpost and immediate threats temporarily suppressed, Emery prepared to embark on his own operations. Armed with critical intelligence and empowered by the freedom to act independently, he deployed his mastery of spatial magic to traverse vast distances effortlessly. Using his divine sense, he located nearby orc hives and elven patrols, even daring to approach elven outposts when an opening presented itself.

Emery’s approach was calculated and surgical. He struck like a phantom, his movements swift and undetectable. Targeting key elven magus, he neutralized them with precision—capturing some for interrogation while eliminating others before they could relay warnings.

His mastery of stealth ensured his presence remained a mystery, a ghostly menace within enemy lines. Meanwhile, the orc hives met a grim fate. Emery introduced lethal toxins ensuring their destruction from within. Entire breeding grounds and strongholds were rendered lifeless without raising alarms.

Every foray served a dual purpose. While eliminating threats, Emery also seized valuable resources, weapons, magical artifacts, and biological materials from orcs’ hives. The following days unfolded in a similar pattern. With Emery’s covert assaults keeping the enemy disoriented, the second and third batches of civilians successfully reached the fifth checkpoint. Each caravan moved under the cover of safety, their paths cleared of lurking orc tribes and disrupted elven patrols. However, the fourth and fifth batches encountered heightened resistance as surrounding tribes regrouped. In response, Grand Magus Shahi directed warriors to intercept the threats, relying on Emery’s spatial gates to deliver reinforcements where needed.

Meanwhile, Shinta and Hardy stood as capable leaders among the acolytes. Their combined efforts inspired confidence and discipline in the group of 100 acolytes under their charge. Through relentless battles, they honed their skills, gaining valuable combat experience and accumulating academy points.

While the acolytes continued to climb in ranking, with their efforts resulting in a steady rise in points, Emery reaped significant rewards from his encounters with the elves- one of the most tangible benefits of participating in the war.

However, despite his continued success, there was always a foreboding feeling that the elves would eventually make their move. The calm before the storm seemed inevitable, and Emery needed to keep his senses sharp.
