Earth's Greatest Magus

With his proficiency in nature spells and the help of Twik, Emery carefully guided the trio deeper into the desert sands. His roots burrowed and twisted through the earth, steadily pushing aside rocks and debris until they reached a solid rocky layer. There, he expanded the chamber, forming a secure and hidden refuge several miles underground.

Emery exhaled deeply, focusing on the task at hand. They had at least thirty minutes—if luck was on their side—before reinforcements would arrive. However, that meant staying out of sight until then.

“Let’s use this time to recover!”

Grand Magus Miriel nodded in agreement. She moved quickly to assist the elderly Grand Magus Archie, whose breathing was labored. Her magic flowed seamlessly mending his injuries with a focused touch.

Meanwhile, Emery took a seat, carefully inspecting his injuries.

Although his innate [Undecaying Flesh] had healed most of his physical injuries, the more insidious wound lay within his core. The Cosmic Flame, a residual remnant from the Red Demon’s devastating attack, still lingered, its intensity felt even within the depths of his Magus Domain. The fire was like a persistent ember, scorching from within and threatening to disrupt the delicate balance of his essence.

Emery took a steadying breath, centering himself. Fortunately, his new spell, [Sea Soul Restoration], has proven to be invaluable in such circumstances. Summoning the calming energies of the ocean, he channeled the soothing magic through his core.

A faint, azure glow enveloped him as the spell took effect. The energy cascaded through his body like a cooling tide, tempering the heat and gradually dissipating the flame. Emery visualized the embers being quenched by the endless waves of the sea, their oppressive heat extinguished bit by bit untill the last flicker of the flame was snuffed out. As soon as Emery completed his healing, he stepped into his domain and entered a newly prepared chamber. The room was dimly lit, with intricate runes etched across the walls emitting a soft golden glow. The air was thick with incense, its distinctive aroma seemingly penetrating the very soul. At the center of the chamber stood Azula Raine, bound by enchanted chains that glimmered faintly, holding her firmly in place.

“You!!!! Release me! Release me at once!” Azula shouted, her voice sharp and commanding, though her disheveled appearance betrayed her frustration.

Emery walked closer, ignoring her outburst, and addressed the other figure in the room—a second female dark elf who had been watching quietly from the shadows.

“We’re lucky,” Emery said plainly. “I didn’t even have to track her… She came to me herself.”

The elf stepped forward, a smile appeared on her face. “It seems all my waiting was worth it.”

“What?! What are you talking about?!” Azula barked, her eyes narrowing at the exchange. She turned her attention to the other elf, her tone venomous. “And you! How dare you? Helping our enemy!! You fucking Traitor! I’ll see you pay for this!!.”

Emery’s hidden motivation for accepting the perilous mission now stood before him: Azula Raine. She wasn’t just a high-ranking dark elf; she possessed noble blood and authority—a rare candidate to serve as a vessel for Lyanna Darkmoon’s soul.

“I hope she’s compatible,” Emery murmured, glancing at the silent figure of Lyanna nearby, her presence almost spectral.

“She has to be,” Lyanna replied, “She’s worth the risk.”

“It won’t be easy… How much do you know about her?”

Lyanna’s lips curved into a faint, almost knowing smile. “More than Enough… She and I… we’re much alike”

“Alright then. We don’t have much time. Let’s begin.”

The quiet exchange was enough to unsettle Azula, her earlier defiance giving way to visible fear. Her wrists strained against the enchanted chains as she shouted, “No! Don’t you dare! Stop this madeness!!”

Ignoring her cries, Emery extended his hand, and the runes on the walls began to glow more intensely. Azula’s resistance grew frantic, her spirit energy flaring despite the suppression. The chains rattled, glowing brighter as they held her in place.

The incense thickened the air, amplifying Emery’s [Partial Soul Enslavement] spell, fully dominating Azula’s soul with overwhelming force.

Her body shivered violently as the ritual progressed, her cries turning into guttural, incoherent sounds. Emery maintained his focus, weaving the intricate threads of the spell with precision. “Now, Lyanna!!”

Lyanna’s spectral form moved forward, her essence shimmering faintly under the chamber’s light. Without hesitation, she began the [Soul Possession] technique. Her spirit surged toward Azula’s restrained body, merging with it. The air crackled with energy as the two souls collided in a fierce battle for dominance.

The technique, derived from Mo Yan’s inheritance, wasn’t just about replacing one, It allowed Lyanna to consume Azula’s essence, taking her memories and soul signature.

This would enable Lyanna to take over Azula’s identity completely, ensuring no suspicions arose. At the same time, Emery’s enslavement spell anchored the process, ensuring that Lyanna would remain under his control even after the merge.

But the process was perilous. Mo Yan’s notes had warned of a less than 30% chance of success, especially when dealing with a strong-willed soul like Azula’s. The compatibility of their souls was crucial, and the struggle inside the dark elf’s body was evidence of how evenly matched the two were.

“ARRGHH!!!”

Azula’s body convulsed, her muscles straining against the chains.

Emery leaned heavily on his [Soul Walk] ability, delving into the spiritual battle to assist Lyanna. From within, he could see the chaotic swirl of energy as Lyanna fought to subdue Azula. With his [Sea Soul Restoration], Emery sent calming waves of energy, easing Lyanna’s pain and stabilizing her presence.

As the struggle reached its peak, Emery’s concentration was broken by a distant voice.

“Magus Emery… I think they’ve found us!” Princess Miriel’s urgent call echoed into his ears.

Snapping back to his physical form, Emery quickly extended his divine senses outward. Through the layers of sand and stone, he detected dozens of figures moving across the surface above them. Their movements were coordinated, spreading out in search patterns.
