Esper Harem in the Apocalypse

Chapter 1074: Eric vs Erika

Rudy was shocked to see Eric cry like a baby. He couldnʼt remember when was the last time he had seen Eric crying. Although he felt relieved as Eric had woken up.

Once Eric had calmed down, he felt embarrassed to have shown such a sight as a high rank hero.

Naturally, Eric had questions, and he asked Rudy for details of the incident that happened last night.

”What is the last thing you remember?” Rudy asked calmly.

”Something hit us and we fell from the cliff. I had no time to react!” Eric responded in panic.

Rudy thought of an excuse for a moment and explained, ”A huge boulder hit the car from the side and the car was thrown off the cliff. But fortunately, there was another flat surface next to the cliff and our car fell there.

I was unscathed, but you had lost consciousness. It might be because you were exhausted even before we took off. Anyway, some kind people helped me carry you back to the top and everything was fine.”

Rudy stared at Eric as he watched his expression, wondering if Eric would buy his explanation.

”That doesnʼt make sense.” Eric shook his head. ”I have faced death many times, and I never wavered. Why would I pass out after my car falls off the cliff?”

Rudy shrugged his shoulders, seemingly playing dumb.

”Neither of us received any injury.”

”...” Eric didnʼt seem convinced by Rudyʼs explanation, but his doubts were cleared. He couldnʼt think of any other possibility.

After that, Eric asked a few questions to Rudy, to which he responded without raising suspicion. Until Eric asked what happened to the car.

Although Rudy had already expected Eric to ask that, he didnʼt have a definite answer that would stop Eric from asking more questions.

”I got it scrapped.” Erika said as soon as she stepped into the room.

Eric, confused and curious, raised his brow and asked, ”Erika? What are you doing here?”

Erika let out a short sigh and folded her arms with an annoyed look on her face. ”I took a day off from work. Now stop asking these dumb questions and let me tell you everything. I donʼt have time to entertain your curiosity.”

Erika told Eric that the car fell down as soon as Rudy and Eric were pulled out of the car. When Erika came to the city and accidentally ran into Rudy, he explained the situation to her.

After that, Erika contacted her team and retrieved the car, but it was destroyed beyond repair, so she sent it to get scrapped. She also promised Eric to buy him a new car that could withstand the attack of a S-rank monster.

”Scrapped it?!” Eric yelled in anger. ”Who told you to do that? How dare you scrap my car without my permission?!”

The anger on Ericʼs face betrayed the fact that he was emotionally vulnerable a few minutes ago.

”Donʼt you dare yell at me!” Erika yelled back, exposing her aura that filled the room completely.

”The car had something more important than my life!”

Erika tossed something at Eric and said, ”Here. This shit is worthless.”

It was the same drive that consisted of the recording of the meeting. But Rudy had unknowingly destroyed it with the car.

ʼShe most likely made a copy of it since she has full access to Ericʼs hero device.ʼ

Eric gulped down nervously and asked, ”Did you… see whatʼs inside?”

”It was garbage. Something like this shouldnʼt even be called ʼevidenceʼ. In this era of technology, such videos can easily be called fake. No one would believe you even if it were to go public.” Erika remarked. ”Not to mention, you will only make an enemy of the hero organization.”

”What should I do then?!” Eric asked with a desperate look on his face.

”Work with them. Join them as a spy and gain as much information as you can. Thatʼs the only way to stop their so-called revolution.”

”That wonʼt work. I have been against it openly. If I join now, it will definitely make me look suspicious,” Eric shook his head in denial.

”Donʼt worry about that.” Erika smirked and turned to Rudy. ”Rudy and I will make it happen.”

”Wha…t?” Eric glanced back and forth between Rudy and Erika. ”Donʼt get Rudy into this. You know how dangerous it is!”

”Oh?” Erika mockingly gasped and clapped her hands. ”Who was it who brought Rudy into this mess?”

”Uhh…” Eric avoided eye contact and chuckled nervously. ”I am sorry…”

”Sorry ainʼt gonna cut it, bro. You know how much I love Rudy. Donʼt think I am going to let you off the hook so easily.” After saying that, Erika left the room.

Eric turned to Rudy and asked, ”You told her everything, even though you promised not to tell anyone?”

”Itʼs Erika we are talking about. Do you think I could keep my mouth shut? You know how she goes…”

Eric facepalmed himself and shook his head, seemingly accepting his defeat.

”I think I will rest for a while.”

”I will take my leave then.” Rudy left the room to chase after Erika, but she was nowhere to be seen.

ʼI donʼt think she would have gotten far.ʼ

Once Rudy left Ericʼs house, he used his vision ability to scan the area and found Erika heading towards the tower near Rudyʼs house.

”Why is she heading towards the tower?” Rudy wondered.

He flew to her and landed behind her.

”Where are you going?” he asked.

After hearing Rudyʼs voice, Erika stopped for a moment, but began walking again.

”Oh, so you are ignoring me now?”

”I am not ignoring you. If I donʼt reply, that means you have to follow me.”

SIGH!

ʼGirls…ʼ

Rudy followed her to the tower and reached the entrance.

”...” He watched Erika as she placed her hand on the door and stared at it with a serious look on her face.

”This is the place where it all started…” she muttered.

”...”

”Had I not stepped inside, I would have been a normal girl…. Or dead. Either way, I should hate this place, but I canʼt. I lost many of my close friends inside… but met new ones. I sacrificed so much… but I gained too.”

Erika turned to Rudy with tears in her eyes and uttered, ”My boss wants to meet you.”

”Whatʼs… why… so suddenly?”

”I donʼt know. But she called me and told me to inform you that she will personally come to meet you soon.”

”Uhmm… okay…?” Rudy didnʼt know what else to say.

”You wanted to know her name, right?”

Rudy simply nodded.

”She is the one who founded and funded the hero organization. She created the hero devices to help the heroes. She is the savior of humanity.”

”Okay…”

ʼI read about it in various articles. They mentioned that someone did all that, but none of the articles had the name mentioned. Itʼs impossible to delete something from the internet, yet… I couldnʼt find a single information on that person.

It all makes sense now. For someone who regards themselves as a master of technology… it would be a piece of cake to do that. But why is she coming to meet me? Why do I have a bad feeling about this?ʼ

”Whatʼs the name of that person?”

”Her name is Hiem Lu Bela.”
