Esper Harem in the Apocalypse

Chapter 1073: Erikaʼs Boss

Heroes were the hope for humanity. They saved those who couldnʼt save themselves, but who would save the heroes?

”I would like to help, but I have questions,” Rudy responded with a composed look on his face. Sure, he wanted to find the culprit, but he had other things to do.

”Let me guess, you want to know how they got the exact number?”

”Yes.” Rudy nodded. ”And why is this kept a secret? Should it be made public to make other heroes aware of the possible danger?” Rudy wondered.

”If it is made public, it will cause chaos in the world. Civilians would lose their hopes.”

”I would like to help, but I canʼt do anything if I know nothing,” Rudy shrugged. ”Do we even have any clues?”

Erika let out a soft sigh and glanced at Eric before turning back to Rudy.

”The hero organization is investigating the matter. However, we wonʼt be joining them. We will conduct a separate investigation of our own. My boss will find everything and command this mission. She has knowledge of everything. She is a master of technology. Whatever I have learned, I learned from her.

Although I havenʼt asked her for permission, I will convince her to let you join me in this mission. Once she agrees, I will let you know.”

”Wait, can your boss do that? Wouldnʼt that be against the rules or something?”

”No. My boss doesnʼt care about all that. She isnʼt afraid of anything. She is the strongest person in the world, and if she wishes, she can even become the ruler of this country. She has an army of thousands and possesses advanced weapons.”

The way Erika described her boss piqued Rudyʼs interest. He wanted to know who her boss was and why he wasnʼt aware of that.

ʼShe even said her boss is the master of technology… now that seems like a challenge to me…ʼ

”Who is your boss?” Rudy asked the most predictable question.

”I knew you would ask that, but unfortunately, I canʼt tell you that. Itʼs supposed to be a secret.”

”If you canʼt tell me that, how am I supposed to help you?” Rudy raised his brow.

”Donʼt worry. Once I convince my boss to let you join the mission, you will meet her…” Erika asserted with a nervous smile on her face.

”Hopefully,” she added immediately.

ʼLet me test her with this… if her boss is truly a big shot, she would know what the hero organization is planning…ʼ

Rudy told Erika everything that Eric had told him. Although he felt guilty for his actions, he had no other choice.

ʼEric couldnʼt stop worrying about it and I couldnʼt give him a satisfactory solution. Maybe if itʼs Erika… she can help him.ʼ

After listening to Rudy, Erika frowned her face and angrily asked, ”Did Eric tell you this?”

Rudy simply nodded without saying anything.

Erika frowned her face even more and muttered, ”Stupid fuck.”

”What?”

”I know many high rank heroes were invited to that meeting, but why did he have to record everything? Not only that, but he told you everything too! Even though he has become one of the strongest heroes, he remains a stupid piece of shit!”

”...!”

Rudy had never expected to hear such words from Erikaʼs mouth. Why was she angry?

”He wanted to do something good. Thatʼs what heroes do,” Rudy defended his best friend.

”There is a difference between being brave and a fool. And the difference is so thin that a fool might think himself as brave!”

Erika was so angry that the atmosphere in the room had changed drastically. Even though she had mastered control of her powers, she couldnʼt hide anger.

”No wonder you two were attacked!” she uttered as her aura began to spread throughout the room.

”Hmm?”

Erika hesitated for a moment but continued with a sigh, ”This is just a speculation of mine. Itʼs not confirmed and I donʼt think they would go this far, but I think the hero organization is getting rid of the heroes who donʼt join them.”

”...!”

ʼAlthough it makes sense, we were not attacked by them. It was totally unrelated. I donʼt think the hero organization knows that Eric has recorded everything. If they did, they had a dozen chances to attack us.ʼ

”Take it with a grain of salt, okay?” Erika retorted. ”I asked my boss about this, but she made no comments on it. Unless she confirms this, we wonʼt act.”

”If itʼs true, why arenʼt the heroes protesting or something? Isnʼt that the obvious thing to do? Surely, if we can think that the hero organization is behind the death of thousands of heroes, others can also think the same.”

”They wonʼt. The situation favors the heroes more. Why would they want to miss a golden opportunity to become a thousand times better than they currently are? Only a few thousands heroes are against it and they are getting rid of them slowly.

Once they have gotten the entire organization that fully supports them, they will act out on their plan. Which is why you and Eric are in danger and I need to act fast. I have already informed my boss about the attack on you and Eric last night and she will shortly give her response.”

”What response?” Rudy asked with a judging look on his face.

”About you. I really hope she agrees. That way, we can work together. Not only that, but she will also help us find the source of your powers.” Erika nudged him and asked. ”Donʼt you want to know, too?”

”I… want to… but why do I have a bad feeling about this?”

”You worry too much. She is a good person. If you trust me, you can trust her too.”

”...”

RING~ RING!

Erikaʼs phone rang, and she left the room in a hurry after giving a nervous look to Rudy.

ʼWhat the hell? Should I let myself get dragged into this mess? I have my own things to do and—ʼ

Rudy stopped thinking when he noticed Eric staring at him with a baffled look on his face.

”You are awake!” Rudy rushed to him and helped him sat up.

”You… I… Why…” Eric couldnʼt believe Rudy was standing in front of his eyes.

”Relax! I am okay.”

”I thought you died…” Eric hugged Rudy and began to cry.
