Brother Dao Took the Entertainment Industry by Storm, Fans Beg Me Not to Kill Anymore

Chapter 792: The Aftermath of the Fan Poisoning Case and Medical Record Fraud Case

【Top-tier hospital medical record fraud: Are mental illnesses becoming a free pass for some people?】

Xiao He only needed one glance at the headline to know that this article was Zhou Junhaoʼs handiwork.

That guy still loved writing pieces with that traditional news media style even now.

Though, to be fair, his work style did match the older generation of traditional media professionals in their pursuit of pragmatism and truth.

Beneath such a heavy-hitting headline, another one reading 【Fan poisoning at a birthday party? How to ensure personal safety at large events】 seemed far less important.

”Whoa, thatʼs quite the ambitious move.” Xiao He quickly skimmed through the content, then couldnʼt help but let out an emotional sigh. ”No wonder I felt like theyʼd been lying low for so long. Their investigation stretched all the way from before Spring Festival until now—turns out they were cooking up something massive!”

It wasnʼt surprising that Xiao He was stunned. This time, Zhou Junhao hadnʼt just looked into the hospital that had issued fake medical certificates as Xiao He had mentioned to them earlier. He had also gone out of his way to investigate several well-known top-tier hospitals in nearby provinces, testing each one one by one.

Yet the results were shocking. This kind of thing wasnʼt an isolated incident. A few hospitals had even gone so far as to forge medical records and fraudulently claim national medical insurance funds.

The deeper Zhou Junhao and Tong Junhui dug, the more alarmed they became. The more alarmed they became, the more they felt this couldnʼt stay on the surface. So they decided to push further, tracing this medical loophole upward to uncover even more hidden secrets.

This was exactly why they had been so busy lately.
Since Xiao He had his own things to take care of, Zhou Junhao had never asked him for help. He had just buried his head in his own investigation.

Now, seeing these results, Xiao He was taken aback too.

”Right now, every single person being investigated must absolutely hate that girl who tried to poison you at your birthday party.”

Liu Rulan said this with a touch of emotion.

”I doubt anyone expected that the origin of all this would be that poisoning case.”

Back then, that girl had been planning to carry out a large-scale poisoning at Xiao Heʼs birthday event. But before she could even start, Xiao He—who had been passing by just to join in the fun—spotted her in the crowd and apprehended her.

Even though the crime was thwarted, its nature was still severe, warranting heavy punishment.

But who would have guessed that this girlʼs family member happened to be the director of a certain top-tier hospital? They immediately issued an officially recognized medical certificate with legal force, trying to clear their daughterʼs name.

Unfortunately for them, Xiao He caught wind of the discrepancies and dug into what was really going on behind the scenes at that hospital, then passed the information along to Reporter Zhou.

Who was Zhou Junhao?

By now, he was a well-known figure in the medical world. First came the nationwide counterfeit drug case, then the internet celebrity medical aesthetics case. Several of the cases Zhou Junhao had deliberately or inadvertently gotten involved in all seemed to touch on this area. Now, this fire had burned its way directly to the medical system itself. Zhou Junhao was practically a veteran at this point.

For a moment, it was hard to say whether those people should hate Zhou Junhao, the journalist who had dug up their secrets, or the anti-fan of Xiao He who had exposed their internal operations.

Well, anyway, people like that should have known this day would come the moment they reached into the national coffers. They had no one to blame but themselves, right?

Xiao He was only stunned for a brief moment before regaining his composure.

”No wonder the last time I contacted Tong Junhui, he told me they were too busy to spare any time.”

Liu Rulan spoke up, her tone carrying a hint of reflection. ”So this was what they were busy with.”

”We definitely need to throw a proper celebration later. Theyʼve made a name for themselves again!”

As he spoke, Xiao He scrolled down to check the comments, and sure enough, many people were discussing the incident.

[Oh my god, no wonder Brother Xiaoʼs birthday party suddenly issued an emergency notice back then. So thatʼs what was happening?]

[I was at that birthday party too! I never imagined something like that was going on!]

[As someone who almost ate that biscuit, I want to say that the news didnʼt really tell the full story. The ”concerned citizen” who noticed something was off and caught that person was Brother Xiao himself! He was at his own birthday party! Wuwu, I was so excited back then that I forgot all about the gift I had prepared for myself. Iʼve been kicking myself ever since.]

[What? Seriously? For a moment, I donʼt know whether to say the person above was lucky or... lucky.]

[That Reporter Zhou looks so familiar. Wasnʼt he the one who exposed that nationwide internet celebrity medical aesthetics case?]

[Wow, isnʼt this journalist afraid of getting assassinated? Heʼs dug up so much stuff. I donʼt even want to think about it too deeply.]

[This system really does need some improvements. Those people were exploiting the loopholes. I feel like a new medical reform is coming!]

[Exactly. I hope that these people-friendly policies can actually be implemented in practice, instead of becoming tools for certain people to gain privileges and line their pockets.]

[Support! Support!]

[But Reporter Zhouʼs team is growing, isnʼt it? Thereʼs a new journalist listed under the article too.]

[Haha, this is really heartening to see. The team chasing the truth is getting bigger. Theyʼll definitely do even better in the future, uncovering all the injustices in the world and measuring the depths of human nature with their own efforts! Keep it up! Reporter Zhou and the new Reporter Li!]

-

Beijing.

Zhou Junhao was laughing heartily with delight. ”Haha! I knew someone would notice! See? The netizens have sharp eyes! Now everyoneʼs saying that after this battle, weʼre definitely going to become the most awesome duo in journalism!”

He then looked over at the person at the workstation next to him. ”Right, Reporter Li? Weʼve made a spectacular debut! Our star is on the rise! But why didnʼt you use your real surname? What a waste.”

Hearing Zhou Junhaoʼs absurd rambling, Tong Junhui could only shake his head helplessly.

In Zhou Junhaoʼs previous reports, he had never revealed his real name, which helped protect his privacy and safety. By that logic, Tong Junhuiʼs name should have been handled the same way. But when Zhou Junhao had asked him about it, Tong Junhui had thought it over for a long time before deciding not even to reveal his surname, opting instead for ”Li”—a very uncommon one.

And that was how things ended up. In their reports, they uniformly used the pseudonyms ”Reporter Zhou” and ”Reporter Li.”

Honestly, Zhou Junhao was really curious. He couldnʼt figure out why Tong Junhui had chosen the name ”Reporter Li.”

But before Tong Junhui could answer, the senior colleague at the workstation behind them couldnʼt help turning around and chiming in, ”You two have really outdone yourselves this time. I heard that even higher-ups have been mobilized to conduct a full investigation! But where on earth did you get so much information? Even knowing the details about Xiao Heʼs poisoning case?”

This senior colleague had helped Zhou Junhao out a lot in the team, so Zhou Junhao naturally didnʼt hide anything. He said, ”I had a brief encounter with Brother Xiao while chasing an earlier story. So when their poisoning case blew up, they wanted us to help cover it and talk about personal safety issues at fan events.”

”But then—”

Zhou Junhao gave a sheepish grin. ”When Brother Tong and I went to verify the facts, we just kept digging deeper and deeper, and thatʼs how we uncovered all these shocking things.”

”I see. You guys are really lucky! Youʼve even managed to tap into connections in the entertainment industry.”

The senior colleague didnʼt suspect a thing. In fact, he was rather envious.

For journalists like them, having connections across all walks of life was the key to thriving. It allowed them to hear inside gossip from various circles and uncover more news stories in a timely manner.

When Tong Junhui heard this exchange, he couldnʼt help shooting Zhou Junhao a few extra glances.

”Lucky indeed—”

He murmured under his breath.

So much internal information. Only that person could have provided it.
