Becoming Their Guiding Spirit

# Chapter 182: Are You a Boy? The amount of information in this note was a bit overwhelming.

Both Lucas Reeve and Surtr were stunned for a moment and couldn’t react.

Over the years.

Surtr had also been to many places hinted at by memory fragments, only to find out upon arrival that they were just simple, useless memories.

In fact, even for this trip to Lungmen.

Surtr hadn’t paid much attention to the memory fragment.

The reason she used to search for memory fragments was purely to find her past self—what kind of person she used to be, who her parents were, where her hometown was. Because the interference of the memory fragments in her mind made it so that Surtr didn’t even know her own age. She could only barely remember a few things from recent years; the past was like a blank slate.

However.

After Lucas Reeve separated her past memory fragments from her current memories, Surtr seemed to have come to an understanding.

She was no longer fixated on finding her past self.

The present her was real and could create a future. That was enough. The past was ultimately just the past. Even if she remembered it, so what?

Only her future self was the real her.

Therefore.

The reason she came to Lungmen this time.

Was purely to eat some ice cream. The memory fragment was just an afterthought.

However.

She hadn’t expected this memory fragment in Lungmen to provide so much information.

Surtr placed the note on the table.

Then she carefully opened the other small notebook.

It was a yellowed diary.

The handwriting inside was very messy with many typos, on par with Ifrit’s. Of course, it was much better than Ceobe’s. After all, he could at least write. Ceobe was completely illiterate. Although she was old enough, she couldn’t remain illiterate forever. Jessica had even found a private tutor for Ceobe, but Ceobe couldn’t learn anything, and eventually, they gave up.

Lucas Reeve, in his little flame-person form, sat on Surtr’s shoulder. The two of them stood together, carefully reading the not-so-thick booklet.

The diary didn’t contain much.

Mostly just trivial matters.

For example.

[1.25 My memory seems to be constantly fading. I can’t remember my past. In my mind, there’s only the name Laevatain. I’ve even forgotten my own name. So, to avoid any special situations, I’ve developed the habit of writing in a diary.]

[1.26 As the host of Laevatain, I don’t know what my mission is. I’m idle every day with nothing to do. Nothing to do today, played cards.]

[1.27 Nothing to do today, went for a bath. It cost me several thousand. I don’t know why a normal bath is so expensive. Say no more, my back hurts.]

[1.28 As the host of Laevatain, I can’t be decadent anymore. Although I don’t know what Laevatain is, just a sword? Today, I’ll practice my swordsmanship.]

[1.29 So tired, taking a rest today... looking for some girls.]

[.....]

The following entries were mostly repetitions of these trivial matters.

However.

Surtr noticed something strange.

”Laevatain...”

”Hmm.”

”Why does his back hurt after taking a bath?”

”...”

Lucas Reeve fell silent, considering his words.

Due to her lack of memories and years of wandering, Surtr’s general knowledge, while better than Ceobe’s, was only so-so.

At least... she didn’t know how to use a smartphone.

Ceobe could at least use a tablet to watch cartoons now.

”How should I put this.”

”Umm....”

”He used the rake he carried with him to plow the dry ground. The key is, plowing one wasn’t enough, he had to plow several, so he was exhausted.”

Surtr: ”???”

She shook her pretty little head, a different kind of light flashing in her usually cold and calm eyes when she was with Lucas Reeve.

”I don’t quite understand.... why would you spend money to plow the land...”

”Uhh...”

”I’ll tell you in the future. When we have money, I’ll buy you a phone. You can browse the internet more, and you’ll learn a lot of common knowledge.”

Surtr was a little disappointed.

”Does it have to be in the future?”

”Yes.”

Surtr didn’t dwell on it and continued to read the diary.

The subsequent content was a bit repetitive. After flipping a couple more pages, there were some blank pages with nothing written. Surtr continued flipping.

When there was writing again, a year had already passed.

He hadn’t written in his diary for a whole year.

Lucas Reeve had already guessed the reason.

It was very likely that his life had become too peaceful and comfortable, day after day, with nothing worth recording, so he just got lazy and stopped writing. Lucas Reeve had also tried keeping a diary before, but the longest he ever kept it up was a week. Lucas Reeve could understand this.

However.

The content of the diary a year later seemed to have changed.

[Damn it!! I’m screwed, I’m being hunted by a group of unknown people. They seem to want Laevatain!! But now Laevatain is one with me, they have to kill me to get it!! Holy crap, I was so awesome just now!! I actually summoned a giant hand!! This hand grabbed Laevatain and slaughtered all those enemies!!]

A hand?

Lucas Reeve was stunned for a moment. Laevatain’s materialization can directly summon a hand?

Lucas Reeve asked Surtr, who also said she didn’t know. The first time she materialized Laevatain, it was half a body.

Indeed.

The constitution of different people cannot be generalized. Even as hosts of Laevatain, the differences were huge.

But what concerned Lucas Reeve the most was...

Someone was actually trying to seize Laevatain?

In other words.

Laevatain wasn’t a secret, but something known by many countries or organizations?

But this was also understandable.

After all, with so many hosts over the years, it was bound to be exposed.

A large fragment of divine power, purely mindless.

....

This would indeed attract many organizations like cats to a fishy smell. Surtr hadn’t encountered a single enemy in all these years; her luck was truly good.

And the later entries in the diary gradually shifted from the initial peace and joy to sorrow.

After being attacked by unknown enemies, this host began a life on the run.

He grew a lot during his journey, made many friends, and even fell in love and got married. However, his beloved was killed in an attack by a very powerful force. In his rage, he unleashed a half-body Laevatain, but the power of a materialized Laevatain did not come without a cost.

According to the diary owner’s summary.

Each outburst consumed a certain amount of his life force.

Now in his early thirties, he already looked like he was in his forties.

After losing the one he loved.

He once again embarked on the path of finding Laevatain’s origins and seeking revenge.

In his eyes.

All his disasters were caused by this sword, Laevatain. He had tried to discard it many times, but no matter where he left it, the sword would immediately return to his side if it was beyond a certain distance, as if it were locked onto him.

However, later on, while passing by the outskirts of Lungmen, he was attacked by an incredibly powerful force.

According to the diary’s description.

[All dressed in black, with equally black metal breathing apparatus on their heads. Each of them was very, very strong, much stronger than any enemy he had ever seen. Even after summoning a half-body Laevatain, he was still no match for three of these ’monsters’. At the last moment, he barely managed to escape to Lungmen.]

[I’m dying... my injuries are too severe. If it were an ordinary person, I would have died on the spot. My investigation over the years has finally made me understand one thing: the memories in my mind are not from nowhere, but are the memories of previous Laevatain hosts. That is to say, after I die, Laevatain will find a new host.]

[If the next host of Laevatain really finds this diary, I can only say that you are tragic, because Laevatain has forgotten its past and will have to face incredibly powerful enemies. Even now, just thinking about it, I still find those black demons so absurdly strong.]

[I’m dying... so...]

[You be careful too... Lastly, I have one more secret to tell you. According to my investigation, Laevatain’s true form is the legendary Ancient God of Flame from countless years ago. And after the Ancient God of Flame was shattered, besides Laevatain, there are many other fragments. One fragment I know of is in... the capital of Columbia.]

After reading the entire thing, Lucas Reeve was a little disappointed.

He had thought there would be some secret, but it was basically all things Lucas Reeve already knew, like how the memory fragments in his mind were the memories of all the previous hosts.

However.

This was understandable.

If it weren’t for Lucas Reeve.

Surtr probably still wouldn’t know this fact on her own.

And those black demons...

They were probably Ursus’s Emperor’s Blades.

According to the timeline.

During the time of this diary’s owner, the previous Emperor of Ursus had not yet died, and Ursus was in a period of powerful expansion. After he died and the new Emperor took the throne, Ursus’s internal situation deteriorated, which is why they stopped searching for Laevatain.

However.

This diary also served as a wake-up call for Lucas Reeve.

Laevatain was a target coveted by many forces...

Lucas Reeve hadn’t thought about this much before. It seemed he had to be more cautious in the future.

However.

As the current host, Surtr had the addition of him, which was a huge advantage over the previous host. Her strength had increased by an unknown amount. Even if the Emperor’s Blades really came, Lucas Reeve wasn’t too worried, as long as they didn’t all come at once.

And there was another useful piece of intelligence: a fragment of Laevatain was in the capital of Columbia, the mobile city where Jessica was.

Closing the diary.

Surtr thought for a moment and decided to take the diary with her. It seemed there was nothing else in this small secret room according to her memory.

After staying for a while longer, Surtr and Lucas Reeve turned and left the clock tower.

The next destination seemed to be set: Columbia.

After Lucas Reeve and Surtr left together.

Walking on the road, Surtr seemed to be struggling with something.

Lucas Reeve initially thought Surtr was thinking about the diary’s owner, but when he asked her, Surtr replied in a very calm tone.

”I’m thinking about that tiny little bag, and why it can prevent people from having babies.”

”?????”

”Ha...”

Lucas Reeve’s expression was very strange.

Can we please focus on something else.

”Why is it strange?”

Surtr suddenly became curious. This was the first time Lucas Reeve had seen such a curious expression on her face.

”Do you know how babies are born?”

Lucas Reeve asked casually.

Surtr walked and thought.

”They come out of... the belly.”

Surtr pointed to her own stomach.

”Then why are they in the belly in the first place?”

”Uhh...”

Surtr shook her head again.

Lucas Reeve imitated how his middle school biology teacher explained it, giving a science lesson to the knowledge-deprived Surtr.

However.

After listening.

Surtr fell silent again.

”Only males can do it?”

”Indeed.”

”Laevatain, you... are you male?”

”???”

Lucas Reeve was stunned for a moment, countless question marks flashing in his head.

Huh?

The crucial thing was, when she asked this, Surtr’s expression remained as calm as ever, without any change.

Lucas Reeve was stunned for a few seconds.

”I am indeed male. Also, I am not Laevatain. My name is Lucas Reeve. I am another soul, just fused with Laevatain’s soul.”

”Mmm...”

Surtr showed no surprise. She nodded.

”But you are still Laevatain.”

”.....”

Surtr’s words left Lucas Reeve somewhat speechless.

The two of them didn’t speak again after leaving the clock tower. The atmosphere fell into a strange silence.

Just then.

A little girl with white hair blocked their path.

”Hey, hey, hey! What a coincidence?”

The sudden appearance of the white-haired girl instantly put both Lucas Reeve and Surtr on high alert.

Especially Lucas Reeve, his senses were extremely sharp.

From this suddenly appearing white-haired girl, Lucas Reeve sensed an incredibly strong power. This power was almost the strongest he had encountered on Terra in the past year.

Even stronger than an Emperor’s Blade by far.

The divine radiance was incredibly brilliant.

Lucas Reeve’s eyes widened.

A crazy word appeared in Lucas Reeve’s mind.

A true Divine Fragment!!

And not a small fry fragment like the Flame Demon, but a large fragment with its own consciousness. It couldn’t even be described as a fragment anymore; it could be called a part of a god.

Powerful...

Even just standing there with a smile, Lucas Reeve felt a sense of pressure.

This was a true Divine Fragment.

Much more formidable than Ursus’s Black Serpent. The Black Serpent at most had the trait of immortality; in terms of its own strength, it was really not up to par. And the Flame Demon was also lacking, although its original form was also a god, but... the fragment was very weak.

”Excuse me, is there something you need?”

Surtr asked under Lucas Reeve’s instruction.

The other party smiled.

”I have a request...”

”Umm... I’ve taken a liking to you two. Can you be the stars of my movie!! There’s a reward, you know.”
