How am I Being a Gigolo When I'm Doing Door-to-door Sales?

132: You’ve taken a liking to me?Li Hong’s smile froze completely on his face.

”Uh, that’s it, that’s it.”

”Then Director Shen, I’ll be going now!”

As if his feet were greased, he clutched the stack of documents and almost fled in panic.

Watching Li Hong’s frantic back disappear at the end of the corridor, Shen Zhixia’s icy aura that kept people at a distance finally vanished in an instant.

She gave a soft snort, the corners of her mouth curling into an undisguised look of disdain.

”This guy, eagerly sucking up like that, terrified that people won’t know how good he is at brown-nosing.”

Looking at her lively appearance, Lin Chao couldn’t help but laugh.

”Isn’t that just the law of survival in the workplace?”

He paused, lowering his voice with a hint of teasing.

”In my opinion, he’s not afraid people won’t know he’s a suck-up.”

”He’s panicking because he sees me getting too close to you, Director Shen.”

”He’s terrified that one day I’ll accidentally end up in his Manager’s chair.”

Shen Zhixia raised an eyebrow, seemingly interested in this theory.

”Oh?”

Lin Chao spread his hands, looking helpless. ”He doesn’t even use his brain. I’ve only just been promoted to Department Head; the company procedures are right there.”

”Even on a rocket, you wouldn’t get promoted that fast!”

Hearing this, Shen Zhixia’s eyes shimmered, and the smile on her lips deepened.

”That’s not necessarily true.”

Her gaze swept up and down Lin Chao, with a bit of scrutiny and a touch of playfulness.

”If you can really close a few more deals worth tens of millions, forget Manager—the position of Vice President might even be reserved for you.”

Lin Chao felt a bit uncomfortable under her gaze. He rubbed his nose and gave a bitter laugh.

”Director Shen, you really think too highly of me.”

”I’m not that amazing, and I’m not omnipotent.”

As if to prove his point, he added quite seriously.

”For instance, I know absolutely nothing about cooking.”

”The only things in my fridge year-round are frozen dumplings and self-heating hot pots.”

Hearing this, for some reason, Shen Zhixia’s heart stirred slightly.

A thought slipped out of her mouth almost subconsciously.

”Then... how about coming over to my place for dinner tonight?”

The moment the words left her mouth, she herself was stunned.

The air seemed to freeze for a second.

Lin Chao was also clearly taken aback, looking at her with a hint of surprise in his eyes.

Shen Zhixia felt her cheeks burning and was about to find an excuse to take it back.

But Lin Chao suddenly laughed.

”Sure.”

He agreed readily and decisively.

”We live close anyway, only three floors apart. It’s convenient for me to head up and grab a meal.”

His words actually made the atmosphere feel more natural.

The sudden awkwardness in Shen Zhixia’s heart also quietly dissipated.

Since the words were already out, taking them back would seem overly sensitive.

She nodded, trying to make her voice sound as usual.

”Alright.”

”I’ll leave work early today then to go back and prepare.”

Back in his empty Department Head office, Lin Chao leaned back into the large executive chair, sinking into it.

The sunlight outside the floor-to-ceiling window shone brightly on him, yet it couldn’t dispel the faint cloud of doubt in his heart.

Did Shen Zhixia suddenly invite him to dinner because he saved her last time?

This thought was snuffed out as soon as it emerged.

No, Shen Zhixia had already transferred money to him back then.

The favor had long since been settled.

Then... a bolder and more outrageous guess uncontrollably sprang into Lin Chao’s mind.

Could it be... that Shen Zhixia has taken a liking to him?

”Pfft.”

Lin Chao was amused by his own thought and let out a short snort.

”Give it a rest, Lin Chao.”

”Don’t take yourself too seriously.”

”That’s Shen Zhixia—the cold-faced mature beauty, the ice queen.”

”What kind of man hasn’t she seen?”

”How could she possibly develop feelings for someone so easily?”

Lin Chao silently roasted himself in his head.

After thinking it over, there seemed to be only one possibility left.

Lin Chao sighed, leaning back even further.

”Maybe... it’s because she lives alone and eats alone, so she’s feeling a bit lonely?”

”After all, no matter how strong a woman is, she’s still human.”

”I just happen to live downstairs from her and happen to have no cooking skills—I’m practically the perfect ’meal buddy’ on hand.”

”Yes, that must be it.”

Once he figured that out, the inexplicable restlessness in Lin Chao’s heart finally calmed down... The afternoon flew by as he processed various documents and reports.

As quitting time approached, the atmosphere in the office became a bit restless.

Lin Chao packed up his things and stepped into the elevator.

Just as he drove out of the company’s underground garage and merged into the congested evening rush hour traffic, his phone suddenly vibrated in the storage compartment.

It was an unfamiliar local number.

Lin Chao put on his Bluetooth headset and pressed the answer button.

”Hello?”

On the other end of the line came the hurried voice of a young man.

”Hello! Is this Mr. Lin Chao?”

”Speaking.”

”You have an urgent local package here. It’s already at the entrance of your residential complex. Could you please come and sign for it?”

”An urgent package?”

Lin Chao was slightly taken aback.

He hadn’t bought anything online recently.

”Okay, I’ll be there soon.” Though puzzled, he still agreed.

A few minutes later, Lin Chao parked his car in the space downstairs.

Sure enough, a courier in uniform was holding a cardboard box, waiting anxiously at the entrance of the building.

”Mr. Lin?”

Seeing Lin Chao, the courier looked as if he’d seen a savior.

Lin Chao nodded and signed his name.

The cardboard box wasn’t large, but it was heavy and felt substantial.

Carrying the box, he stepped into the elevator.

Back home, Lin Chao casually placed the box on the shoe cabinet in the entryway and used his key to slit through the layers of tape.

Opening it to take a look, his pupils suddenly constricted. His whole body felt as if it had been struck by an invisible bolt of lightning, and he froze on the spot.

There was nothing else in the box.

Only a thick stack of documents, carefully sealed in a kraft paper envelope.

And on the cover of the top document, several gold-stamped characters were searing his eyes.

”Medical Practitioner License.”

Lin Chao felt his breathing halt for a moment.

His hand, uncontrollably trembling, slowly reached for the kraft paper bag.

He pulled out the documents inside.

”Medical Qualification Certificate,” ”Medical Professional and Technical Qualification Certificate”... all sorts of procedures and certificates, both familiar and unfamiliar to him, were all there, perfectly organized.

On the final page of the certificate, he also saw the red official seal of the affiliated institution.

”—First People’s Hospital Affiliated Kangjian Clinic.”

A legitimate institution affiliated with a Grade A Tertiary hospital.

Lin Chao’s gaze was fixed intently on the one-inch bareheaded photo in the bottom right corner of the document.

The young man in the photo wore a white shirt, his eyes clear, with a faint smile playing on his lips.

That was... an ID photo taken last year when he went home and was dragged to a photo studio by his Grandfather.

At the time, he thought it was strange—why take an ID photo for no reason?

So... so this was what was waiting for him!
