How am I Being a Gigolo When I'm Doing Door-to-door Sales?

124: Humanoid self-propelled ATMLan Qingyu grew angrier as she spoke, pulling over the girl beside her who was still shaken.

”Besides, Xiao Qiao is a high school classmate of mine and Xiuxiu’s!”

She emphasized, ”She’s working here during the summer break to earn her tuition!”

”High school classmate?” Lin Chao was slightly taken aback, his gaze falling back on the girl named Xiao Qiao.

The girl was wearing a KTV uniform, with tear stains still on her face, but her eyes were exceptionally clear, possessing a scholarly air that was out of place here.

A thought flashed through Lin Chao’s mind.

Lan Qingyu had mentioned that their elite high school had a few spots for special recruitment students every year. Their high school classmate working here... she was likely one of those so-called top-tier special recruits.

Before Lan Qingyu could speak, Wu Xiuxiu nodded heavily from the side, her face filled with pride.

”Xiao Qiao is amazing!”

”She was the top scorer in the provincial college entrance exam for our year!”

Wu Xiuxiu’s voice was full of defense for her friend and disdain for the two drunks.

”She got into Tsinghua’s Computer Science Department on her own merit!”

”Who would have thought that working a summer job would lead to such a disgusting incident!”

Hearing this, Lin Chao’s brow furrowed even deeper.

A gifted talent, a provincial top scorer, a prospective Tsinghua student, working at a KTV for tuition only to be bullied by two pieces of social trash.

This made the fire in his heart burn even brighter: ”Truly scum.”

His voice turned cold, carrying a trace of imperceptible chill.

”This kind of trash just needs a brutal lesson from society.”

Hearing this, Xiao Qiao, who had been silent, finally mustered the courage to bow deeply to Lin Chao.

Her voice still had a sob in it, but it was filled with sincere gratitude.

”Mr... Mr. Lin, today... thank you so much.”

Lin Chao waved his hand. ”It was nothing.”

Xiao Qiao straightened up and wiped the corners of her eyes, feeling a bit embarrassed.

”I have to continue working, so... please excuse me.”

She nodded gratefully to Lan Qingyu and Wu Xiuxiu again before turning and hurrying away, her figure appearing somewhat frail.

Watching Xiao Qiao leave, Lin Chao withdrew his gaze and said to Lan Qingyu and Wu Xiuxiu, ”Let’s go, back to the private room.”

The three returned to the private room, shutting out the noise from outside.

Lin Chao poured himself a glass of water, took a sip, and then looked at Lan Qingyu from the corner of his eye with a half-smile.

”To be honest, just now I thought you, Miss Lan, had fallen back into your habit of being overly kind, wanting to save anyone who looks pitiful.”

This teasing immediately made Lan Qingyu bristle.

”Nonsense!” She stood with her hands on her hips, her almond eyes wide. ”I was just standing up for justice! And Xiao Qiao is my classmate!”

”I’ve already learned my lesson; I won’t just trust anyone anymore!”

”Lesson?” Wu Xiuxiu, who hadn’t said much, was immediately piqued by curiosity.

She blinked her large eyes, looking at Lan Qingyu and then at Lin Chao.

”Qingyu, what’s going on? Did you get cheated or something?”

Lan Qingyu’s cheeks flushed slightly, and she stammered.

Seeing this, the smile on Lin Chao’s lips widened.

He put down his glass and leaned back on the sofa, looking like he was about to tell a story.

”Want to know?”

He raised an eyebrow at Wu Xiuxiu.

”Come, let me tell you all about your Miss Lan’s glorious deeds.”

”Ahem!” Lan Qingyu was both embarrassed and anxious, wanting to stop him but not knowing how to speak up.

Lin Chao ignored her completely and began to speak on his own.

”Last time, there was a woman named Zhong Xiaoru who first hired a bunch of thugs to harass Qingyu.”

”Then, that Zhong Xiaoru staged a heroic intervention.”

”And so, Zhong Xiaoru naturally got to know her and became her ’best friend’ who shared everything.”

Wu Xiuxiu’s eyes widened. ”And then?”

”Then?” Lin Chao sneered. ”Then that Zhong Xiaoru tearfully claimed she owed those thugs twenty thousand yuan, was being hounded for the debt, and couldn’t go on living.”

”Guess what happened?”

Lin Chao intentionally paused for effect, his gaze sweeping over Lan Qingyu’s bright red face.

”Our kind-hearted and chivalrous Miss Lan didn’t hesitate for a second and wanted to pay back that twenty thousand for her.”

”As a result, as soon as they heard she was going to be generous, those debt-collecting thugs popped up again, and the twenty thousand instantly became a hundred and twenty thousand.”

”Pfft—” Wu Xiuxiu almost spat out the juice she had just sipped.

”A hundred and twenty thousand?!”

Lin Chao spread his hands, his expression both amused and helpless. ”Can you believe it? A hundred and twenty thousand! And she actually planned to pay it!”

He pointed at Lan Qingyu, who was still there, overwhelmed with shame and anger.

”If I hadn’t happened to run into her then, she probably would have actually coughed up that hundred and twenty thousand.”

Lin Chao shook his head and delivered his final summary: ”In the end, it turned out that the pitiful Zhong Xiaoru and the two groups of thugs who appeared were all in it together, specifically putting on a show for her!”

He sighed deeply and asked the stunned Wu Xiuxiu in a pained tone.

”Tell me, with her level of intelligence, isn’t she the textbook definition of silly sweet?”

The corner of Wu Xiuxiu’s mouth twitched uncontrollably.

She turned her head and sized up Lan Qingyu from head to toe with a look that said, ’I finally see you for who you are.’

”Qingyu, oh Qingyu,” Wu Xiuxiu shook her head, clicking her tongue in wonder. ”No wonder Uncle Lin says you’re overly kind!”

”This isn’t just being silly sweet; this is practically being a humanoid ATM!”

”Pfft—” Lin Chao almost spat out a mouthful of water.

This Wu Xiuxiu looked quiet and gentle, but who knew her tongue was so sharp.

Lan Qingyu’s face instantly turned dark.

Her cheeks flushed deep red, like a cat that had its tail stepped on.

”How was I supposed to know they were in cahoots!”

She stiffened her neck and defended herself, though her voice lacked conviction. ”That Zhong Xiaoru acted so miserably; anyone would have felt sorry for her!”

Wu Xiuxiu covered her mouth and laughed, her shoulders shaking. ”Yes, yes, yes. You have the softest heart and the fattest wallet.”

She paused, her tone shifting, a hint of lingering fear on her face. ”But seriously, Qingyu, it’s a good thing you met Uncle Lin.”

”Otherwise, I really wouldn’t dare to imagine what else might have happened to you.”

These words truly struck a chord with Lan Qingyu.

She instantly wilted, grabbing Wu Xiuxiu’s arm and pleading in a low voice.

”Xiuxiu, dear Xiuxiu...”

”Don’t you dare tell my mom about today’s incident or the last one!”

Wu Xiuxiu furrowed her brows, feigning difficulty.

”Well...”

She drawled, the amusement in her eyes almost overflowing.

”Fine.”

She patted Lan Qingyu’s hand with a solemn look. ”Don’t worry, I definitely won’t tell your mom.”

Lan Qingyu had just breathed a sigh of relief.

When she heard Wu Xiuxiu slowly add the second half of the sentence.
