Reborn in the Eighties as a Housewife with a Space

Chapter 1389: Chapter 1383: Difficulty in Mother-in-law and Daughter-in-law Relations_1 Chapter 1389: Chapter 1383: Difficulty in Mother-in-law and Daughter-in-law Relations_1 Back when Qin Xue used to live with her grandmother in the countryside, she often heard the proverb, “The first ten years look to your mother-in-law, the next ten years look to your daughter-in-law.”

It means that when a daughter-in-law first arrives in her new home, she finds it strange and unfamiliar. This is the time when she needs care, tolerance, and understanding from her husband and mother-in-law the most.

After all, a woman who once was the princess of her home is now married off to a strange family. She has to develop relationships with the new family members which can bring substantial differences and views. If people in her husband’s home treat her well during this period, she will be grateful and will reciprocate the kindness.

Conversely, if the daughter-in-law is met with multiple criticisms from her husband’s family, she will not feel settled. She will not only fail to find happiness but will also experience anxiety and insecurity. She will not feel a sense of belonging. How then, could she manage to live peacefully in this home?

According to what Qin Xue knows, this situation is not uncommon in Hua Country. Often, it leads to divorces caused by mothers-in-law interfering in their son’s marital affairs.

Mother-in-laws might feel jealous, thinking that the daughter-in-law is trying to take her son away from her. They view their sons as their most precious possessions, raised with their blood, sweat, and hard-earned money. They become upset at the thought of their sons being “taken” by another woman.

As a result, they can’t bear to see their sons treat their wives well. They feel that their sons have never treated them as kindly as they treat their wives. “Why should he be good to another woman?” they think, and hence, they end up sabotaging the relationship between the son and his wife by highlighting her faults and causing the son to resent his wife.

Often, the son, believing that his mother always has his best interests at heart, agrees with her. He does not realize that his wife has left her own familiar surroundings to come to a completely unfamiliar place, where the only person she can rely on is the man she married.

If the man overlooks this fact, the marital bond starts to show cracks; these accumulate over time and lead to separation or divorce. The catalyst in most of these situations is usually the mother-in-law.

Therefore, if a mother wants her son and daughter-in-law to live together happily, she must maintain a good relationship with the daughter-in-law. After all, when she gets old, it is the daughter-in-law who will be by her bedside.

Chen Lei does this very well, which is why An Hao never gets angry. Instead, she feels guilty for leaving her child with her mother-in-law to go out for fun. This is the outcome of mutual understanding between mother-in-law and daughter-in-law. Not only will they not have conflicts, but they will also have a better relationship, respecting and considering each other’s needs. Li Zhao, their son, and husband, will also feel more relaxed. Otherwise, being stuck in the middle is quite distressing.

“Zhaozi, I’m so thankful that mom didn’t rebuke me, or else I wouldn’t dare to go out again.” An Hao looks at her daughter, still petrified from the fear she felt when she got home.

“What are you thinking about? Mom knows how tough it was for you to carry and deliver a baby, so she’s empathetic.” Li Zhao also knows that An Hao’s been emotionally unstable, so when he’s gone, he told her to relax and enjoy herself and no one’s allowed to blame her for anything when she gets back. He doesn’t want her to overthink.

When they came back late, nobody at home said anything unfair. He felt relieved. Everyone in the family is concerned about each other, and when there’s less fatigue, their interactions are more pleasant.

Li Zhao looks at his wife and child. He feels content with his family and that nothing is more important than a happy family.
