Chapter 846: Chapter 840: Discussing Craniotomy Surgery_1

Gong Yuliang, upon being asked by Mr. Mo, hesitated, considering that although he was the Dean, he did not know how to perform craniotomy.

“Mr. Mo, I don’t really have a good solution either. You know that craniotomy isn’t my main specialty.” It’s not that Gong Yuliang was unwilling to do it, but rather, he just wasn’t very skilled at it, being merely mediocre.

“But we have to do it. We are the best hospital in the entire Imperial Capital. If we can’t handle it, then the patient can only wait for death. This is not what we should do as soldiers.” Mr. Mo said after hearing Gong Yuliang’s words.

“Excuse me, what exactly are you guys talking about? What do you mean the patient can only wait for death?” Qin Xue felt curious after taking care of the wounded and saw that they were all well arranged. She wanted to find Gong Yuliang and the others, but hearing that they were not in the operation room anymore and had come to the conference room. However, before she even entered the room, she heard them discussing something about ‘waiting for death.’ Considering that they were soldiers, it was unlike them to say such things so easily, so she asked.

“Oh, we were discussing a craniotomy. But this type of surgery is our weak point in Hua Country. I can’t do it alone, Yuliang is mediocre, and he still has to handle a patient with internal organ damage and multiple fractures. Susu, this girl, her main specialty is not brain surgery either. So none of us know the best way to proceed and are discussing a plan with the lowest risk.” Mr. Mo slowly explained to Qin Xue.

Both Nangong Susu and Gong Yuliang were wondering why Mr. Mo was discussing this with Qin Xue. Could it be that he thinks Qin Xue can do it? Not that they doubted her, but they both had more experience and knowledge than Qin Xue. Even if her theoretical knowledge was abundant, this was not a typical surgery, so it was no wonder that they underestimated Qin Xue.

...
“Can I see the X-rays that you have taken?” Qin Xue asked after contemplating a bit. She had initially thought it was simply a case of glass embedded in flesh, but turned out, there was also intracranial hemorrhage involved.

“Okay.” Mr. Mo felt slightly reassured upon hearing Qin Xue’s request and agreed to it without even thinking.

“Teacher…” Nangong Susu called out when she heard this.

“It’s fine.” Ignoring Nangong Susu’s protest, Mr. Mo turned around to fetch the X-ray images and the medical reports from the table and handed them to Qin Xue.

Initially, upon hearing Nangong Susu’s exclamation, Qin Xue was wondering if there was something wrong with her. Qin Xue hadn’t offended her in any way, so why was she being so defensive?

What Qin Xue didn’t know was that, even though she didn’t offend Nangong Susu, she did pose a threat to her position, which made Nangong Susu a little uneasy.

But then again, since Nangong Susu wanted to keep her on her toes, Qin Xue decided to challenge her more. If Nangong Susu wanted to make her uncomfortable, she would strike first. It had to be said that Qin Xue was pretty petty at that moment.

Taking the X-ray and the report, Qin Xue started looking at them and soon her face turned quite serious. No wonder they were at a loss. Craniotomy was risky even under the most favorable circumstances in later generations, let alone in this backward 80s, where the risk of postoperative infection was pretty high.

The main issue with this surgery wasn’t whether Qin Xue could perform it. It was about how to prevent postoperative infections later on; that was the most troublesome part.

“What’s wrong?” Mr. Mo asked, noticing Qin Xue’s change in expression.

“The surgery can be done, but the postoperative recovery is the most complicated part. I can’t guarantee a complication-free recovery. On the contrary, the biggest problem with craniotomies is postoperative complications.” Qin Xue said, her face serious as she looked at the three people in the room.

“You can really do it?” Gong Yuliang asked in astonishment when he heard her.
