Devouring Evolution: Devouring Nuclear Bombs at the Start

161: Chapter 161 MissionariesWatching the number of ordinary people gradually increase within the church, Lin Sheng frowned slightly.

”Can’t we wait until the night has passed before sending this thing away?”

”My Lord, you may not be aware, but for a heretical object that has been completely corrupted like this, the sooner it is dealt with, the better.”

”We are also forced by circumstances. If we could, we would certainly wait until the night ends before taking action.”

The bishop sighed, having also noticed the commoners gathering around the statue of god.

In the Ximi Starfield, both day and night lasted quite a long time, roughly equivalent to three Earth days.

With such a long duration, Transcendents were fine, but ordinary people certainly couldn’t endure it.

After all, they couldn’t stay in the church for three whole days.

Thus, another function of the information talisman became apparent.

Believers could pray to the statue of god, allowing the information talisman to absorb the divinity within the statue.

As long as an ordinary person held an information talisman containing divinity and didn’t wander around recklessly, surviving the night was not an issue.

”My Lord, the Church will not let you make this trip for nothing.”

Seeing Lin Sheng’s hesitation, the bishop could only offer a final persuasion.

”For this escort mission, we will provide a corresponding reward.”

The bishop didn’t think a Half-step Legend powerhouse would be moved by money, but besides money, they seemed to have nothing else to offer.

The bishop had already lost hope, but when Lin Sheng heard there was a reward, he pretended to think for a moment and then nodded ”with difficulty.”

”Fine. To deal with the pollutant as soon as possible, I will accompany you.”

The bishop hadn’t expected Lin Sheng to actually agree. After a brief moment of shock, he was overcome with wild joy.

With a Half-step Legend powerhouse accompanying them, this escort was basically guaranteed to be safe.

...

Lin Sheng stood outside the church, quietly gazing at the star hanging high overhead.

Although his current location was still in daylight, the entire Ximi Starfield had entered night.

The day and night cycles of the Ximi Starfield did not affect the day and night of the planets themselves.

However, Lin Sheng could clearly sense that the divinity in the space originating from the Ximi God was much weaker than before.

Some things that shouldn’t exist were now beginning to rear their heads, engaging in a fierce struggle with the diminished divinity in the space.

This was just the situation around the church; conditions elsewhere were bound to be much worse.

Perhaps in some area far from the church, the corruption of an evil god had already quietly descended.

”My Lord, please come aboard.”

A shuttle-like device stopped in front of Lin Sheng; it was the transport for the Church’s Transcendents here.

Driven by magic, the shuttle’s flight speed could far exceed that of ordinary Transcendents.

This shuttle was somewhat similar to a ”ship,” and several Church members were positioned on its deck.

Lin Sheng stepped onto the deck and stood beside the bishop.

Once Lin Sheng was settled, the shuttle officially took off under the control of a Third-rank Transcendent from the Church.

As the distance between the shuttle and the church grew, the divinity in the space began to weaken, while the opposing chaos began to strengthen.

On the shuttle, everyone except Lin Sheng was on high alert, guarding against pollutants that could appear in the space at any moment.

Looking at these vigilant Church members, Lin Sheng felt their worries were redundant.

With the divinity contained within the shuttle, ordinary pollutants couldn’t get close, and as for those powerful pollutants...

It wouldn’t matter even if these Church members were on guard.

”Hmm?”

Lin Sheng had thought this journey would end uneventfully, but just then, he suddenly noticed something unusual ahead.

Looking closely, Lin Sheng was surprised to find that a very strong divinity existed somewhere up ahead.

This divinity was well-hidden; an ordinary Half-step Legend would certainly have failed to detect it.

But Lin Sheng was no ordinary Half-step Legend.

Although the amount of this divinity was small, its intensity was not inferior to the Ximi God’s divinity in the church.

And there was one most crucial point: this divinity did not belong to the Ximi God!

This was the divinity of another deity!

”Stop. There is something ahead.”

Lin Sheng suddenly spoke.

Hearing Lin Sheng’s words, the Church member piloting the shuttle glanced at the bishop.

He was, after all, a member of the Church. Although Lin Sheng was the strongest here, in the hearts of the Church members, the bishop was still the highest authority.

”Listen to the Lord. Stop.”

Learning there was a situation ahead, the bishop didn’t dare to be arrogant.

Though he hadn’t sensed any danger himself, he still followed Lin Sheng’s words and stopped the shuttle.

”I’ll go ahead and take a look. You stay here.”

Lin Sheng spoke, giving orders in a commanding tone.

Since arriving in this universe, he had been a high-ranking figure for a long time. Even though he was trying his best to act as an ordinary person now, he would still inadvertently use a superior’s tone when speaking to others.

Hearing Lin Sheng’s commanding tone, for some reason, the Church members felt an involuntary urge to obey.

They all attributed this to the pressure of a ”Legendary powerhouse.”

Lin Sheng stepped forward and vanished from the shuttle in a flash.

The next moment, he appeared in the dense forest below the shuttle.

In front of him stood a middle-aged man wearing long red robes.

Seeing Lin Sheng’s sudden appearance, the middle-aged man was initially shocked.

But sensing the same ”Half-step Legend” aura from Lin Sheng as his own, the man’s mood relaxed slightly.

”May the Holy Crown Exalted Lord bless you, Lay Practitioner.”

The middle-aged man gave a bow to Lin Sheng.

Lin Sheng could also see that this middle-aged man seemed to be a Missionary, and the god he believed in also appeared to be a Pillar God.

This was interesting. On the territory of one Pillar God, a Missionary of another Pillar God had actually appeared.

Moreover, Lin Sheng could feel that this Missionary was not simple; the man gave him a sense of ”not coming with good intentions.”

However, choosing not to strike a smiling face, Lin Sheng also nodded to the Missionary.

”Thank you for having your Lord bless me.”

Missionary: ?

No, is this guy sick?

I was just speaking casually. Did he actually take it seriously?

These were the Missionary’s internal thoughts. Facing a powerhouse of the same level, one still had to show proper respect.

”I wonder what brings you here, Lay Practitioner?”

Seeing Lin Sheng remain silent, the Missionary spoke up to ask.

Because Lin Sheng did not hide his strength in front of Transcendents close to his own level, the Missionary had also sensed Lin Sheng’s presence the moment Lin Sheng noticed him.

The Missionary didn’t believe that Lin Sheng had specifically come down from the shuttle just to look at him.

Furthermore, for a Half-step Legend to appear in the Church in such a remote part of the starfield was not a common occurrence.

Thinking of this, the Missionary subconsciously glanced at the wooden box hidden in his robes.
