Reincarnation of the Strongest Healer

Chapter 1382: Aetheria Empire Part 29

While everyone was focused on bidding for the scales, Madam Ying discreetly made a hand signal toward one of the nobles from afar.

When the noble saw the hand signal, they quickly nodded slightly.

Soon after, they raised their hands and called out a bid. ”1,500 gold coins!”

The current bidding call was only in the 800s, but he directly raised it to 1,500 gold coins.

Hence, the others were dumbfounded and turned their attention to him.

”When did you become this rich, Marquis Lucas?”

”1,500 gold coins... You’ve been hiding your wealth deeply, Marquis Lucas!”

Sure enough, some of them who recognized the bidder called him out immediately.

In response to their remarks, Marquis Lucas held a friendly smile.

”Wealth should never be exposed to the public, but today, I’m determined to get my hands on the scales to craft safety protection.” Lucas chuckled and explained, ”Money isn’t worth anything once a person’s life is over. I’d rather bleed a bit to ensure my safety.”

With that explanation, the others no longer snubbed him or even questioned his wealth.

Such a statement was indeed true!

There had been a few nobles who had succumbed to the Colossus’ invasion because they wanted to be penny pinchers.

In the end, they forfeited their lives and lost all they wanted to safeguard.

”1,500 gold coins going once!” While the crowd was silent, Xu Feng didn’t stop and began counting down. He had no qualms about calling it because 1,500 gold coins had already exceeded his expectations.

At best, he believed these scales would bid for only around 1,000 gold coins.

But Marquis Lucas here directly bid 500 more than he anticipated.

How could he not be satisfied?

Moreover, thanks to Lucas setting up this kind of base price, the upcoming scales would only be sold for more.

Don’t ask Xu Feng why that was the concept.

In an auction, people often hesitate a lot and miss the golden opportunity to bid for a valuable item for a low price.

This kind of situation seemed universal, given that Xu Feng also fell under such a category in the past.

”1,500 gold coins going twice!”

”1,500 gold coins going thrice!”

”And sold! Congratulations to Marquis Lucas for winning the first auction item, scales from a unique source for the price of 1,500 gold coins!”

Xu Feng clapped his hands cheerfully and congratulated them loudly.

As if that wasn’t enough, he even went on to advise that the scales also had a magic property of emitting large amounts of mana, temporarily boosting one’s magical power.

”There was such a hidden mechanic?” Lucas was startled. He wanted to test out one of the scales immediately to verify the claim.

However, he knew these scales didn’t belong to him. While receiving the scales, he discreetly glanced at Madam Ying.

The action was very subtle, but Xu Feng caught the moment perfectly.

’Hoh, so he’s a person planted by Madam Ying.’ Because everyone here had the potential of becoming his fat sheep to butcher, he made sure to scrutinize their every move. This was especially so toward the winner of the first item.

Little did he know his scrutiny managed to stumble across a secret connection.

Although he figured this out, he feigned ignorance and addressed the current agitated crowd.

They were agitated because of the sudden information bomb they received.

Had Xu Feng revealed this kind of information in advance, then they would have totally continued bidding for it. They wouldn’t have just given it up.

1,500 gold coins for something like this?

It was totally a bargain!

Regrets and sorrows quickly filled their hearts. Their eyes turned pitiful as they stared intently at Xu Feng.

None of them dared to get angry at him for withholding the information because it was his right.

In fact, they were even dumbfounded by Xu Feng’s objective.

Why did he withhold such information that could have totally raised the bidding price by heaps?

”You’re probably curious why I didn’t reveal it, right?” Xu Feng suddenly said, his words causing everyone to become slightly embarrassed.

Of course, they were all curious!

This kind of easy money strategy could be thought of by anyone present.

They refused to believe someone invited by Madam Ying wouldn’t understand this logic.

”I’ll say it now. I didn’t want to reveal it as a gesture to those who won the bid. They get to receive the scales for a bargaining price as opposed to later scales.” He declared loudly and unveiled another batch of scales.

The batch of scales was literally the same size and amount as the first scales auctioned. Still, the reaction compared before was a far cry.

The enthusiasm and desire to obtain soared to a new peak.

’This damn shrewd man!!’ Besides them, even Madam Ying was internally angered by his action.

What was the meaning of this?

Why didn’t he tell her in advance?

She had only planted one person in the crowd to avoid suspicion, and she didn’t think he actually had such items for auction.

Her funds were limited, especially when she had just invested a large chunk into Xu Feng’s town in exchange for the training hall.

In response to her frustration, Xu Feng suddenly turned to her direction and flashed a victory sign.

’Hehe, you trapped me, but I can also trap you back.’ He snickered inwardly. This kind of back-and-forth banter was necessary to establish boundaries.

As for what it meant, it means that neither side could fully take advantage of the other and that they should better confess up in the later events.

”Very well... you have successfully provoked me, Viscount Lin Feng.” Madam Ying muttered and flashed a suppressed smile.

She couldn’t possibly flip off at this juncture.

While she got played like a fiddle, Xu Feng was in a great mood as he turned back to the crowd and announced, ”For this second scales auction, the starting bid price is 1,500 gold coins, with each increment being no less than 50 gold coins!”
