Reincarnation of the Strongest Healer

Chapter 1357: Aetheria Empire Part 4

Sun Tzu’s Art of War mentioned that fleeing is better than fighting a hopeless fight, focusing on winning the overall war, not just a single skirmish. After all, losing a single battle wouldn’t be game over unless you lost the war.

And this was precisely what Xu Feng was doing.

He’d rather flee this unfavorable situation than fight a battle he knew would be extremely difficult and with a high chance of losing anyway.

”There’s nothing to be ashamed of a temporary retreat.” Carmen agreed with Xu Feng’s decision to retreat.

None of them here were Tier 4, much less Tier 3.

Although Ken and the majority of the people in the Demoness Army were close to promotion, they were ultimately still Tier 2.

In other words, they would be cannon fodder if they were to confront this enemy.

”I should inform Evelyn to do the raid next time.” Xu Feng didn’t wish to renege on a promise. But the situation was very complicated. Even he wasn’t sure what was going on.

Nothing was scarier than the unknown!

However, he didn’t even get to inform Evelyn of the change in plan when the latter sent him a message.

There was a coordination mark dropped alongside the message.

Evelyn: We have been ambushed by an enemy. My people are struggling. Are you nearby to assist us?

”Shit...” Xu Feng twitched his brows and realized he was going to fail in Sun Tzu’s art of war.

If he were to retreat now and leave her hanging, one could already imagine their relationship was going to be strained.

But if he were to advance and assist her, then they might all fall into the enemy’s trap.

Because the possibility of the enemy being Tier 4 was extremely high, it also meant their intelligence and cunning were not something to be underestimated.

Shortly after Xu Feng shared the message with Carmen, the latter also smiled bitterly.

”Can we just say our bathroom sink broke and needs to be fixed?” She asked sweetly.

Loyalty?

Sorry, that was reserved for her bestie and lover only.

Honor?

Sorry, is that even a word?

Integrity?

Can that even be filling to one’s stomach?

”I wish we could, but she’s been donating a lot of money to our Vanguard Guild. The entertainment group and the chamber of commerce are being invested in by most of her money with little to no cost.” Xu Feng explained the difficulty of ditching her.

”We need to save her, Feng.” Carmen’s expression turned solemn, and she said with a determined tone.

It was a complete 180-degree change in attitude and behavior.

Money?

Now that was something one should strive to get more of!

”When did you become such a money grubber?” Xu Feng was visibly surprised. He was positive that she never cared much about money.

”Isn’t that because I’m no longer alone?” She responded in a most natural manner.

And it was precisely because of how natural she sounded that Xu Feng nearly lost his composure.

Woman... Can you not be so glib-tongued?

Usually, it was the men with the glib tongue who made the women flush.

But in his case, it was usually Carmen who caused his emotions to fluctuate.

She was really unlike other women he had met.

Not only did she dare to express her honesty, but she was even proactive in professing her love in every sense.

”Alright, let’s get that money!” Xu Feng clasped his hands and instructed Ken to head toward the coordinates.

While the Demoness Army began its movement toward the coordinates, Evelyn and her trusted aides were struggling terribly.

”Miss, when are the Vanguard Guild people coming?” CarnageBound cried aloud as he received a massive amount of damage. The enemies weren’t regular mobs, but ones that seemed to be full of advantages.

They repeatedly avoided his attacks and retaliated instantaneously on his openings or weak spots.

”They’ve messaged me that they are coming.” Evelyn calmly said and continued to assist CarnageBound alongside the other Malefic Order Guild members.

Besides them, there happened to be another person in their group. It was an NPC, but more precisely, it was a soldier from the Aetheria Empire.

The NPC was wounded, and his face was ghastly pale. Nevertheless, he remained headstrong and firm.

”Be careful of the hounds’ slashes. They carried traces of poison that could immobilize your limbs.” The NPC warned sternly. He was Terry, a soldier from the scout army who had been ambushed and separated.

At this moment, Terry didn’t even know how many of his comrades had survived or succumbed to these unknown enemies’ hands.

”These hounds should be summoned from a Tier 4 Summoner. We cannot confront and be entangled here for long.” Terry continued to give his advice.

Having scouted the Oracle Region, he knew that their current position was extremely difficult to defend.

Every angle was an opening, and at risk of being harmed.

Needless to say, Evelyn also understood their terrible placement. But what could she do?

The enemies seemed intent on containing them here. As soon as she held the intent to break through, the other side would rush in to attack.

Their side only had a maximum of 10 people, including her.

”If I knew someone else was here, then I wouldn’t have brought so few people.” Evelyn pursed her lips in frustration.

Although she could easily just dump Terry and flee with a Ragged Scroll, the outcome wouldn’t be ideal.

This was an NPC soldier, which was definitely connected to the second major update. To lose this opportunity was something she was very unwilling to do.

’I can only pray the Vanguard Guild will be here soon.’ Evelyn’s only hope was Xu Feng and whichever people he had brought along.

’Please don’t just be two people. The Oracle Region is such a high-level map, so they can’t possibly come alone, right?’

She seriously prayed that Xu Feng was a shameless man who would bring a lot of people this time. Even though they only got 2 slots, they should still bring more people to safely transport the drop loot once the raid succeeds, right?
