Reincarnation of the Strongest Healer

Chapter 863: Cracked Path

”The Guild Leader already knows the monsters spawning here donʼt give us anything?” Carmen raised an eyebrow and asked.

”I didnʼt know about it in advance.” Xu Feng shook his head. ”I merely anticipated that the System wouldnʼt allow us to gain many experience points or rewards from killing them.”

From the beginning, the intention of the System was pretty clear to him.

It wasnʼt enticing them to search and hunt monsters, but rather to search for the exit path.

To simplify, the System clearly didnʼt encourage farming monsters and even imposed a timer to force them to make haste.

When Carmen finished hearing his explanation, she held a bitter smile.

”I can understand the dropped loot being nonexistent, but how come even the experience point is trashy.” She clicked her tongue. The monster in the maze was something she had never seen before. So it was obvious that they should be some rare spawn.

Thus, not gaining any dropped loot from them was understandable.

However, what she failed to understand was the lack of experience points.

Does it make sense that a level 43 monster provided the same experience point as a level 1 monster in their current stage?

Looking at Carmenʼs expression, Xu Feng nearly laughed aloud at her naive thoughts. It appeared that she was still the same old Carmen.

”The System intentionally did it to prevent us from accidentally leveling up.” Xu Feng mused.

Given the restriction and how his mana would still take a while to recover despite the boost in his equipment, it was safe to assume that he was out of combat.

Out of combat as in being unable to provide much help in the upcoming fight.

Of course, it didnʼt affect him much since he was a healer. His main priority was to support and buff Carmen. With 30% mana left, he could definitely do it with ease.

”Tsk, what a despicable System!” Carmen was definitely not pleased that they didnʼt get experience points for such a reason.

”Alright, letʼs just complete this dungeon and shove it to the Systemʼs face.” He mused and started to advance forward. He didnʼt dare to let Carmen step in the front and risk dying.

Moreover, traps could still be laid in every corner of the dungeon. Although the start was just some regular maze puzzle without any traps or monsters, he was positive that the difficulty would only continue to increase.

The current timer was also at 39:26:21.

From coming here and killing the Cragback Mauler, they had already wasted quite a few valuable minutes.

At a glance, they still had 39 hours and shouldnʼt need to worry. But that was the misconception that the System hoped to do. By letting players know how much time they had left constantly, the playersʼ brain might start to tell them to take it easy and relax.

It was the ultimate trap for players who were the last-minute type of person.

Those who always love to do things last minute would behave like the rabbit in the story of the turtle and rabbit race.

The story was extremely popular and was intended to relay the message that perseverance and consistent effort were the keys to victory. The rabbit was arrogant and believed their speed could easily catch up whereas the turtle didnʼt waste any time and continued at a steady pace.

In such a gloomy maze environment, those who behaved like the rabbit were destined to fail.

As Xu Feng advanced forward, he stumbled across a cracked path. The surface was worn and uneven, almost as if it had been neglected for centuries.

The corridor was also very dim and stretched endlessly without any sign of ending or a split path ahead. Needless to say, the atmosphere and mood were inherently different from the previous path.

”Is this another trap?” Carmen asked in concern. The atmosphere and vibe upon walking here were so nerve-wracking. It was as if they had changed dimensions and entered a new area.

Xu Feng kept quiet and simply activated the Mana Resonance Talisman. At this moment, the item itself was like a GPS navigation guide. It glowed slightly and seemed to be hovering up ahead.

”Well, regardless if itʼs a trap, weʼve already got to this point.” Xu Feng calmly said. They had already worked their way here, so to just retreat because of the gloomy atmosphere was ridiculous.

Nodding in agreement, Carmen also refused to simply turn around. It was the equivalent of giving up their progress halfway.

”Should I summon some creatures to scout ahead?” Carmen suggested. Xu Fengʼs current low mana reserve. Only she could afford to expend some of her mana.

However, Xu Feng shook his head and had Flint come out.

As soon as Carmen caught a glimpse of Flint, she flashed a surprise smile. ”Right, you still have a pet. I forgot about that.”

A pet was something a player could purchase in any pet shop operated by NPCs. But not many had purchased one because rare pets, especially one who had a specialty that could assist them were practically nonexistent.

And even on the off-chance that they stumbled across one, the exorbitant price made them frown and bitter for days.

Letʼs take Flint as an example. If it was a pet that was put up for sale in the shop, even hundreds of thousands of gold coins wouldnʼt be enough to purchase it.

After all, Flint was of the Legendary rarity. Moreover, it had high combat power and experience due to the training it received from Xu Fengʼs Pet Space.

By now, Flintʼs Pet Space was no longer a simple one, but one on par with those used in the Pet Association.

Although Xu Feng rarely called it out or used it for battles, mainly to avoid catching othersʼ attention, he had never once neglected it.

Since he had promised the Earthrender that he would do his best to take care of it, then he would honor his promise.

As Flint emerged, it started snuggling its head on Xu Fengʼs shoulder, clearly missing him.

”I get that you miss me, but weʼll need to get down to business first.” Xu Feng rubbed its head softly and explained the situation.
