Reincarnation of the Strongest Healer

Chapter 802: Hunting Prey

When Carmen downplayed her achievement to Albert and spoke lightly of her sacrifice, Xu Feng smiled bitterly.

Although it seemed like she was doing so to be humble in front of Albert, she was actually directing her intention to him. She had been informed by OneManMedia of how ruthless Xu Feng behaved when the news of her death went to his ears.

As much as she loved how overbearing and powerful Xu Feng was, she was secretly afraid and worried about him. The bloodbath massacre he caused when rushing over here, and his merciless decision to destroy Vegan Life was at the next level.

It wasnʼt the same as declaring a guild war with MIST, given Xu Feng was legitimately trying to erase Vegan Life from Divine World.

There was no talk of compensation whatsoever compared to his usual antics.

”Haha, Lady Lunar Wraith sure is humble. But please be reassured that we are one to repay kindness in full.” Albert smiled brightly and said in confidence.

”The City Magistrate and other magistrates were simply occupied in defending the other main point of the empire, so they were unable to defend their respective cities. Our City Magistrate expressed their regret in being unable to arrive to thank the twoʼs highest contributors personally.” He then explained.

”They were called to defend other main points?” Alarmed, Carmen only heard about this now.

No wonder the cityʼs defense seemed lacking in general. It was the fact that Dawnshire City was missing their magistrate.

”Yes, the Colossus has sent numerous attacks simultaneously, catching the empire off-guard.” Albert regrettably informed her. They might have successfully repelled the Colossus siege here, but elsewhere, the situation was more intense.

The Colossus suddenly appeared from nowhere and commanded a large wave of monsters to siege and conquer. The loss of towns and cities was massive, and it was deemed humanityʼs biggest crisis since forever.

When Carmen realized just how big the actual scale was, she felt a chill running down her spine.

ʼThe first major update was already this chaotic?ʼ She found it hard to believe that a few days ago, players were still focused on their grinding, completely having forgotten about the first major update.

It had been so long, but nothing had come up. Thus, the players were disappointed and thought they were pranked or something.

Who could have imagined it wasnʼt a prank, but just a delay of attack?

This was truly the calm before the storm, and the storm had arrived thunderously.

”How many towns and cities have been captured by the Colossus now, Captain Albert?” Xu Feng suddenly raised the question and inquired about the situation.

Alas, Albert was clueless about the data. ”I donʼt really know much but I can tell you that most of the important cities are still safe.”

Before Albert could converse further, another guard arrived and whispered something in Albertʼs ear.

While Albert was listening, his face quickly turned stern and solemn. By the time he finished hearing, Albertʼs hand was clenched tightly into a fist.

”Pardon my exit, but I must leave now. I have already informed the guards in advance that you may interrogate the prisoners for half an hour. Thatʼs the best I could do with my authority.” Albert said swiftly and left the area without even waiting for a reply.

Once their presence could no longer be seen, Carmen furrowed her brows.

”Could it be thereʼs another major change?” She asked anxiously.

”Probably, but itʼs no longer at a scale where players like us could intervene even if we tried.” Xu Feng calmly replied.

This major update event was only meant for the players to defend the targeted cities. And for the remaining rest of the event that continued behind the scenes—that was not something they could do anything about.

One could say that the behind-the-scenes work required them to be at least Tier 3 and above to even be eligible to join as a small potato.

”Ugh, the Divine World is really not simple.” Frustrated, Carmen could only exhale softly. ”They made us feel like the city we chose as home and made us form a strong connection with it before dropping such a bomb at us.”

Hearing that from Carmen, Xu Feng didnʼt know whether to laugh or be amazed at her.

After all, that was precisely what the system designed and meant for it to happen. To ensure players would feel a strong connection and not just do some regular major mission, the system wanted players to defend the city out of their own will.

Whether it was to defend their property or their achievement made in the city. Whatever it was, the result would only force players to do their best to ensure the cityʼs survival.

It was also why there really wasnʼt much of a reward for defending the siege aside from abundant experience points, and for a few lucky folks, rare drops.

However, thanks to one retarded guild aka the Vegan Life, the System had enabled him to impose a heavy punishment upon them. Even the System was disappointed by Vegan Life, which chose to work against their city.

Of course, there had been traitors already, but those were all either Bounty Players or players who failed to defend their city. Therefore, it wasnʼt the same as Vegan Life who chose to sabotage while on the verge of winning.

”Anyway, why are we interrogating the prisoners and not starting our own hunting of prey?” Carmen changed the topic when she noticed Xu Feng remained silent at her comment earlier.

Hunting Prey!

It was now a popular term trending in the Game Forum, with players seeking every Vegan Life memberʼs whereabouts and posting their location.

”Why would we bother hunting them?” Xu Feng mused.

”Eh, weʼre forfeiting the chance of getting a Legendary item?” Startled, Carmen was stupefied by Xu Fengʼs lack of emotion.

She would have been fine if it were someone else who behaved in such a manner. But Xu Feng? The man, who was not only greedy but also extremely petty refused to join the hunt?

Impossible!
