Reincarnation of the Strongest Healer

Chapter 352: Symbol Mechanism

Realizing that Carmen wanted to ditch him, Xu Feng could only chuckle softly in response.

”Sure, you can ascend through the ladder and leave.” He then said, not a bit surprised that she wanted to leave the chasm.

The terrain was a mess, and even the monsters were out of their level.

What fun could there be under such conditions?

If it werenʼt for Yarenʼs task and compromise, Xu Feng really wanted to just take the second prize reward and call it a day.

He was not a masochist who loved to torture himself.

Meanwhile, Carmen didnʼt expect Xu Feng to readily agree for her to leave.

”Eh, are you not going to persuade or convince me to stay?” Carmen asked in a dumbfounded tone. The only reason why she acted coyly was to get permission to leave.

However, it appeared that it was a useless effort, given he didnʼt even seem to mind in the first place.

”Since you requested it, then it means that you probably thought it over before consulting with me.” Xu Feng mused.

”Yes, but I thought you would still attempt to persuade me to stay.” Carmen scratched her head. ”Or do you think Iʼm a nuisance and that you wanted me to leave from the start?”

”No, I just didnʼt want to see you suffer if you really donʼt want to deal with this.” He shook his head and continued, ”The Abyssal Rift is both mentally and physically taxing. This task only concerns me and Crimson Heart from the start, so youʼre not obliged to tag along with us.”

A moment of silence consumed the atmosphere, and before long, Carmen suddenly crossed her arms. ”Hmm, Iʼll just stay for a while longer in that case. Otherwise, you might call me a heartless guild member.”

Amused, Xu Feng didnʼt bother speaking further.

”Have we rested enough?” He turned to Crimson Heart and asked.

”Yes, Iʼve recovered more than half.” Crimson Heart responded.

”Good, then we shall continue.”

Shortly after, the trio continued to descend further. The further they descended, the darker the environment became.

Vision was now limited, and aside from the occasional battle sound from other NPCs, there were also creepy echoing sounds.

”Will there be more Chasm Stalkers appearing?” Carmen questioned, her expression solemn.

”The chances are slim.” Xu Feng sighed softly. The vision was indeed limited, but thanks to his baptized state, his perception was greater than most.

Hence, he saw numerous Chasm Stalkers engaging in a fierce battle with the NPCs.

They were only lucky or maybe unlucky in a sense to encounter a Chasm Stalker earlier. After all, most of these NPCs are here to hunt for monsters, given their drops are worth a lot.

Of course, there were also Miner NPCs, who ventured here specifically for the natural resources. These Miners are usually accompanied by a NPC adventure team who protect them from danger while they occupy themselves in digging the minerals, ores, and etc.

”Hmm, what are these symbols?” Suddenly, Crimson Heart noticed a few symbols that were similar to the ones on the Chasm Stalkerʼs body.

She was about to extend her hand to touch it, but Xu Feng became alarmed.

”Donʼt touch it!” He shouted loudly.

Unfortunately, it was still too late and the tip of Crimson Heartʼs finger touched the symbol.

”Eh… whatʼs wrong?” Holding an awkward expression, Crimson Heart didnʼt understand why she couldnʼt touch.

”Yeah, whatʼs going to happen?” Carmen gazed at him and asked.

”Heh…” A bitter smile appeared on Xu Fengʼs face. ”Well, weʼre going to descend to the lowest level possible, so yeah.”

Right at this moment, the ground they were stepping on suddenly collapsed. And before they knew it, they began freefalling.

Carmen and Crimson Heart were alarmed and tried to latch onto something or use their skills, only to realize it was temporarily disabled.

As for Xu Feng, he held a deadpan expression, seemingly not even surprised by the situation.

ʼI didnʼt expect Crimson Heart to be one of those people who are prone to curiosity and touching things they donʼt know.ʼ He inwardly thought, feeling like it was a blunder of him to not warn them in advance.

A few minutes later of free falling, the trio landed on the ground smoothly, without taking any damage. That was because before they landed straight on the concrete, a soft wind current swirled around their body, creating a gentle landing for them.

As the trio reached the lowest level of the Abyssal Riftʼs Chasm, everything around them felt heavy and damp. The air smelled musty and seemed to be mixed with a hint of decay.

The ground was rough and slippery, with rocks and slimy patches that made it hard to walk. The walls were close and dark, glowing faintly with strange symbols that barely lit up the area.

A cold breeze blew through, sending chills down their backs. The darkness was thick, broken only by the occasional flicker of those strange symbols on the walls.

Carmen was silent, but her stare at Crimson Heart said everything pretty much.

”Ahem, I wonder where the exit is at.” Crimson Heart faked a cough and raised the question.

However, it would have been better if she kept silent instead, given Xu Fengʼs response nearly made Carmen want to strangle her to death.

”Thereʼs no ladder here since no one dares to venture to the lowest level. Donʼt you realize the occasional sound we heard is no more?” Xu Feng replied, his gaze wandering around his surroundings.

”Since we triggered the symbol mechanism, we now have to solve the puzzles and investigate the place to find an exit path to leave.”

”Canʼt we just teleport away?” Carmen raised the question, finding it ridiculous that they would be trapped here indefinitely.

Meanwhile, Crimson Heart didnʼt even bother asking and outright took out a Teleport Scroll, hoping that it would send her away from this place.

Unfortunately, what she received was a system prompt, stating that the Teleport Scroll was currently disabled and unable to be used at the moment.

Unwilling to accept it, she proceeded to retrieve a Return Scroll, but the result came out the same.

”It doesnʼt work…” Crimson Heart said solemnly.
