Pioneer Lord: Starting From Daily Intelligence

Chapter 21: Chapter 21: Attracting Talent

After leaving Frederick to take care of the half griffin, Su Li returned to his room. Tonight, he planned to train diligently with Hilude, striving to help her successfully break through to a high-tier Apprentice Knight.

Su Li had never been so attentive to his own training.

Regarding this, Su Li summed it up by saying there’s no choice; he is just this ”benevolent,” that good and evil are bound to have rewards.

Unlike him, who turned off the lights early and went to bed, the highest floor of Bauhinia Castle, in Count Suna’s room, was still brightly lit.

A lot happened today in Bauhinia Castle; they first lost an elite knight with boundless potential and were about to lose a noble half griffin. This made Lord Count’s mood particularly heavy.

When Connor reported the day’s intelligence summary to him, Count Suna said with great anticipation: ”My Chief Knight, I now need some good news to improve my mood. Is there any good news about Su Li today? Has he made any major breakthroughs in recruitment?”

Seeing Count Suna’s expectant eyes, Knight Connor truly didn’t have the heart to dishearten him, but he still had to report truthfully: ”Lord Count, Young Master Suli... his pioneer team hasn’t had any changes in manpower.”

”No changes at all?” Count Suna asked in astonishment: ”How can that be! He already had two elite knights, two official knights, and two apprentice knights yesterday. This scale is enough to support a small pioneer territory formation, enough to attract some adventurous knights to join. As long as Su Li recruits, someone would definitely join his team, and with good luck, even official knights might.”

”How is it possible that he had six people yesterday, and today he still has six people?”

Knight Connor replied helplessly: ”Because Young Master Suli... has been out of Bauhinia Castle all day today. He didn’t go to the knight’s camp to recruit at all.”

Count Suna was also helpless, feeling a sense of frustration: ”He clearly has great talent, why is he so unambitious?”

This was also the deepest feeling of Knight Connor and the reason why he hadn’t sent his second son to join Su Li’s team yet.

Young Master Suli gives the impression of indeed being unambitious, feeling he is too lax, lacking the tenacity a lord should have.

It makes one doubt if he can truly lead a group of people with determination and strive for achievements. Could it be that before reaching the pioneer territory, he would already fear hardship and retreat?

If he could divert one-tenth of his bed energy to serious matters, he would have a team of knights by now!

Count Suna gritted his teeth and asked, ”So what did he do today?”

”According to the information I got, Su Li brought his team down the mountain for a gambling game, then bought a lion and paraded through the streets, scaring several free people, town celebrities, and noble families into filing a complaint about him at the civil servant’s office.”

Count Suna even laughed in exasperation: ”He truly has the inclinations of a wastrel, indulging in eating, drinking, gambling, and womanizing, and now he’s already started falconry and hunting! He has a hunting dog, which is a lion; will he play with birds next?”

Seeing this, Connor also deeply admired: ”Lord Count, you can still laugh at this moment, you have a good mindset. Tomorrow is the last promised day, with Young Master Suli progressing at this rate, aren’t you worried?”

Count Suna had not yet had time to reply when a young knight ran hurriedly from outside the study, excitedly knocked on the door, and loudly reported without waiting for a response from inside: ”Father, Father, there’s significant progress in the matter you arranged for me.”

Connor furrowed his brow, abruptly turned, and scolded: ”Stern, how many times have I told you to remain calm? Getting overly excited over minor matters, how can you become successful?”

Count Suna sat behind the chair with a smile, saying: ”Connor, your son’s temperament is quite like yours. Never mind, educate Stern another day; now, let’s hear what important developments he has to say?”

Count Suna could roughly guess; the task Connor arranged was likely to monitor Su Li’s progress.

Stern quickly replied: ”Reporting to Lord Count, Young Master Suli has tamed the runaway griffin! The griffin has now become Knight Frederick’s mount.”

”What?” Connor looked up in excitement and asked, ”What’s going on? Hasn’t Young Master Suli been out of Bauhinia Castle all day? How could he suddenly tame the runaway half griffin?”

”Judging by the time, it’s been just over half an hour since he returned. It can’t be that as soon as he appeared, the half griffin obeyed!”

Count Suna was also shocked, wondering if the father and son had colluded to give him this surprise.

He turned his head in astonishment, looking at Knight Connor, and asked, ”Why is it that every time your information on Su Li has such a huge contrast?”

Su Li didn’t recruit knights today, but he got a half griffin! This is something countless knights dream of, and he achieved it with such ease?!

Connor felt truly wronged: ”I don’t understand how this happens either. It’s like Young Master Suli always has some sort of transformative magic.”

”Yesterday, he only found two women, and no one expected them to break through to Apprentice Knights by the afternoon.”

”Today, he went and bought a lion, and somehow by evening, he had a griffin.”

This event was already very bizarre, and hearing Knight Connor recount it, Stern’s eyes lit up, looking eagerly at his father: ”Then, Father, if I also join Young Master Suli’s team tomorrow morning, will I... also successfully break through by afternoon?”

He had been stuck at a high-tier official knight for a long time, unable to find a breakthrough method for the past six months.

He was 20 years old this year, and his achievement of becoming a high-tier official knight had already impressed countless people, many seeing him as a role model.

But a 20-year-old high-tier official knight is only praiseworthy. However, if he became a 20-year-old elite knight, it would draw shock and admiration from countless others!

The former is merely seniors’ praise for juniors, but the latter would evoke astonishment and respect, as it suggests he would likely surpass his predecessors and challenge higher realms.

Count Suna also exclaimed in praise, saying: ”Young man, you have thoughts and courage.”

And hearing Count Suna’s attitude, Knight Connor knew this was something he could no longer oppose, so he said to Stern: ”You’re impulsive by nature, so don’t think about calmly observing; you need to be more decisive and assertive. Don’t wait until tomorrow morning; this evening, take your weapons, armor, horse, and attendants to report to Young Master Suli.”
