Death Game: Starting as a Trickster, Pretending to Be a God

Hearing Chen Zhuo’s confident tone, Lin Yu also became interested.

He immediately took out the phone that belonged to Zhu Ming and opened the forum app on it.

Although he was a reserve member of the ’Free Alliance’, since he wasn’t an official member yet, Lin Yu’s account as ”Zhu Ming” hadn’t been removed yet.

He searched for the ID ’Ai-chan Lifelong Devotee’ and quickly found the latest post Chen Zhuo had made.

”Honestly inviting two people to team up and help me clear a dungeon. I’ll provide [Team Cards], 300 points per person. Interested parties please private message.”

Looking at the post Chen Zhuo had sent, Lin Yu stared at him in shock.

”300 points?”

That would be thirty thousand yuan in cash.

Although it wasn’t an especially huge amount for Lin Yu now, it still wasn’t small.

And Lin Yu knew very well...

Obtaining points was much more difficult than getting money.

300 points could buy a very handy weapon, maybe even one with some special effects!

Chen Zhuo could actually casually take out 600 points...

”You’ve only cleared four dungeons, right? Where did you get so many points?”

Lin Yu asked somewhat puzzled.

Then he added: ”You don’t have to answer if you don’t want to, I respect your secrets... after all, everyone has secrets.”

”I was just instinctively curious, sorry.”

Hearing Lin Yu say this, Chen Zhuo instead eagerly took the initiative to explain.

”You were introduced by the Game Master big brother, and I did manage to pass safely without doing anything in my first dungeon because of you...”

”So, it’s fine to tell you!”

”Besides, I feel like you’re a trustworthy good person too. My intuition is very accurate.”

Chen Zhuo said with full confidence, then directly explained.

”Though, actually there’s not much special to say...”

”The reason I have so many points is actually just because... I guess I got lucky?”

Chen Zhuo scratched his head.

”Although I almost died in my second dungeon, I unexpectedly obtained an item I couldn’t use... then I took it to the gathering to sell, and it turned out a very powerful uncle in our Jiangcheng bought it for 1000 points!”

”At the time, I was still a bit traumatized from the second dungeon. Having 1000 points, I naturally wanted to play it safe. Then I checked the market prices and found that ordinary veteran players who haven’t advanced yet, with around ten dungeons experience, charging for bringing newcomers through dungeons generally ranges from 30 to 50 points. If it’s guaranteed clearance, it’s 50 points. So I offered a bit higher... took out 120 points to hire two people.”

”Then I bought 10 [Three-Person Team Cards] and some potions from that kind uncle... spent about seven or eight hundred points...”

”The third dungeon went more smoothly, but it was almost too smooth - I used up consumables worth about 100 points.”

”But I obtained some more [items]. Those [items] were all ores, medicinal herbs, things I still couldn’t utilize. After coming out, I showed them to that kind uncle again, and he was absolutely amazed.”

”He directly gave me another 1000 points to acquire them...”

”So, I thought I’d continue hiring people this time. Last week I took out 150 points and hired two veterans who hadn’t advanced yet but had around fifteen dungeons experience...”

”After that...”

As Chen Zhuo spoke, Lin Yu could pretty much guess.

”You found more good stuff?”

”Yes, this time I sold it for 2000 points...”

Chen Zhuo said very apologetically, adding: ”So I raised the bounty to 300 points.”

”It’s just that for some reason this time, not many people are applying... I’m about to enter the dungeon soon. I screened them and feel like there aren’t many worth considering.”

”No wonder you’re so generous with money,” Lin Yu couldn’t help but remark, ”As for why there aren’t many people, I can understand that.”

”300 points is too much - for players who haven’t advanced yet, they would speculate whether your dungeon is very dangerous because of these points and wouldn’t dare take the risk. Most Death Game players, especially those staying in the ’forum’, are relatively rule-following and won’t take too many risks.”

”As for advanced players, an unknown commission with 300 points... isn’t easy to accept either.”

”Because this kind of job is usually directly assigned to those organizations - generally speaking, people who can take out this many points have very wide connections. They can directly find their acquaintances.”

”So this is an ’abnormal’ commission... naturally making people wait and see.”

As Lin Yu spoke, Chen Zhuo also suddenly understood.

”So that’s how it is... then I really owe thanks to the Game Master big brother. Otherwise, I might have to do this dungeon alone!”

”And thank you for being willing to take on this commission.”

Chen Zhuo said respectfully again.

”No problem, I’m just relatively short on money,” Lin Yu waved his hand, then asked again, ”By the way... you mentioned earlier that in your first two dungeons, you hired two people and used [Three-Person Team Cards]. What are your plans this time?”

Chen Zhuo looked Lin Yu up and down: ”With you here, it’s indeed relatively safe. But if possible... would you mind adding one more person?”

”Of course not, having an extra helper would make me feel more at ease too.”

Lin Yu shook his head.

Now that Chen Zhuo already believed in ”Xia Yue’s” identity and the fabricated backstory, Lin Yu would be more than happy to pull in another person, able to use Chen Zhuo’s mouth to indirectly spread some ”credible” information about Xia Yue’s identity.

Hearing Xia Yue’s words, Chen Zhuo tentatively spoke again.

”Then... Senior Zhu Ming, Sister Zhu Ming, I have an unreasonable request.”

”You said usually veteran players have their own connections... Do you think among your friends there’s a suitable candidate? After all, this point bounty shouldn’t go to outsiders, right?”

As Chen Zhuo spoke, Lin Yu laughed.

”You want me to make introductions for you?”

Chen Zhuo nodded: ”Yes, yes! If you can bring in a reliable expert, I’ll also give you an extra referral fee!”

Lin Yu waved his hand.

”Better not - but I do know an expert who seems to have availability.”

”However, first, that person isn’t very reliable.”

”Second, the other party is not just [First-Tier], so the price might be on the expensive side.”

”Lastly... that person can’t accept points, probably needs cash or [items] for settlement.”

Lin Yu said calmly, then took out his phone.

”If you accept, I can call her over to discuss.”

Chen Zhuo looked somewhat surprised: ”Of course!”

He only noticed one thing Lin Yu had said...

”Not just [First-Tier]!”

There’s actually a higher-tier expert?!

Things like unreliable and not accepting points - those can be ignored and overcome!

”Please call her over quickly to discuss.”

Lin Yu nodded and immediately dialed the contact in his phone.

The phone rang twice before connecting.

”Hello? Hello? I’m getting food at the school cafeteria, what’s up?”

”A Nian, I’ve got a job here, bringing someone through a dungeon. The other party is offering 300 forum points for [First-Tier] level. I’ve already taken it. There’s one spot left, you coming?”

As Lin Yu spoke, Li Nian on the other end of the phone made an exclamation of surprise.

”Oh wow, there’s such a good deal! And you actually thought of me? I’m so touched!”

”Zhu Ming, you’re such a good person! I only thought you were a superficially pleasant serial killer before, never expected you to have such a kind and considerate side!”

”Baby Zhu Ming, you’re such an especially adorable little cake!”

Listening to Li Nian’s gradually deranged words, Lin Yu’s tone remained gentle.

”If you can’t come, then get lost.”

”Coming, coming, coming right away!”
