Death Game: Starting as a Trickster, Pretending to Be a God

Hearing Tycoon’s words, Lin Yu felt slightly shocked.

Similar words had been mentioned before by his senior, Shen Bingmiao.

”’Promotion’ is the process of making another world firmly remember you.”

But obviously...

His senior probably thought he was still far from ’Promotion’ back then, so she didn’t elaborate further.

From Tycoon’s words, Lin Yu could easily deduce...

’Promotion’ had other benefits—and these benefits were closely related to making another world ”remember you.”

Tycoon looked at Lin Yu and spoke with a smile.

”You must have noticed that many dungeon worlds in the ’Death Game’ are interconnected... Although not all dungeons form a unified whole, some dungeons are indeed related to each other.”

”I can’t go into specifics, just like how you as a player can’t mention the ’Death Game’ to ordinary people... As a high-tier player, there’s some information I can’t disclose to lower-tier players either.”

Lin Yu nodded.

”I never knew there was such a thing...”

Tycoon grinned widely: ”This is why information about ’Promotion’ is so scarce—anyway, during the process of being gradually remembered by another world, besides receiving special 【item】 rewards from the ’Promotion Trial’ itself and gaining new abilities...”

”More importantly, you’ll obtain more ’privileges’—while being a ’player’ certainly comes with many inconveniences, even setting aside your『profession』, you already possess supernatural abilities akin to ’superpowers’ that ordinary people don’t have.”

”These are what ’privileges’ give you—like the ’item space’ that all players have.”

Tycoon said cheerfully while pulling a cigar out of thin air—clearly, this was a [prop cigar].

”The most basic privilege you gain upon entering the Death Game is ’item space,’ and when you become a 『First-Tier』player, you can obtain new 『privileges』...”

Lin Yu scratched his head.

He had already completed a dungeon after his 『Promotion』, so why hadn’t he heard about these 『privileges』?

Tycoon seemed to notice Lin Yu’s confusion and chuckled.

”You’ll need to enter a dungeon again and encounter the right opportunity to obtain these 『privileges』.”

”Anyway, here’s some advice—try to build good relationships with friendlier NPCs and strive to obtain a ’identity’ that can be repeatedly used in other worlds.”

”When the time comes, you’ll probably understand why we use code names with each other and why the 『forum』enjoys such high prestige among players...”

As Tycoon spoke, although Lin Yu felt somewhat confused, he vaguely began to understand.

But since he was currently playing ”Old Yao,” he could only scratch his head.

”Alright, I’ll remember that, boss. I’ll work hard.”

As Lin Yu spoke, Tycoon nodded.

”Looking forward to your good news, Old Yao—by the way, tell your 『Doctor』friend that 『Order』is quite impressed with him and really wants to know how he’s doing now.”

”This is some ’inside information’ I obtained through my connections.”

As Tycoon spoke, Lin Yu’s face lit up with joy.

”Wow, May is going to make it big!”

Then, Lin Yu sighed again: ”But he’s not in great condition right now. You know, it’s already a miracle that he survived!”

”This guy is also quite stubborn and obstinate. Before joining 『Order』, he’s too embarrassed to trouble them... So currently he’s hiding away to recover his strength and waiting for the next dungeon.”

As Lin Yu spoke, Tycoon couldn’t help but sigh with emotion.

”Quite a admirable personality, no wonder 『Order』took a liking to him.”

”Feel like your friend has a boundless future ahead once he joins...”

Lin Yu nodded, his face full of yearning.

”Yeah, and then I’ll have another powerful backer!”

Then, Lin Yu changed the subject and added another comment.

”But still can’t compare to you—at least that guy didn’t tell me about the 『privileges』!”

As Lin Yu spoke, Tycoon laughed a couple of times.

”Haha, probably thought it wasn’t necessary!”

”Alright... Old Yao, once this turmoil completely settles down in a while, I’ll definitely get you some official position in 『Jiang’an Hall』.”

Tycoon said with emotion: ”Our 『Jiang’an Hall』doesn’t lack backbone strength, but compared to truly large organizations, we’re still too deficient in high-end power!”

”If only you could jump directly to Third Tier, Old Yao... Ahaha, just kidding!”

Lin Yu joined in the laughter.

”Oh my, I wish I could too!”

”Thanks for your kind words, boss—I’ll head back now, I need to prepare for the next dungeon!”

Lin Yu smiled as he bid farewell to Tycoon and left the abandoned restaurant.

”Now the ’Old Yao’ identity is gradually getting on track... And I even got an unexpected bonus, obtaining very important information.”

”Indeed 『Promotion』isn’t that simple... And I’m also getting curious about what exactly the 『forum』is.”

It was already afternoon, approaching dinner time.

A whole day of high-intensity infiltration and acting, continuously switching three identities and attending three different gatherings, left Lin Yu feeling utterly exhausted again.

The last time he felt this tired was when he set up the scheme to kill those 『Marauders』.

”Time to go home and rest.”

Lin Yu let out a breath.

Although there was still a loophole in the identity regarding 『Zhu Ming』that needed to be addressed, he was simply too tired.

Besides...

”Final exams are next week, need to study over the weekend.”

Lin Yu rubbed his temples and said painfully.

Even though matters in the 『Death Game』were important, final exams couldn’t be neglected either.

Lin Yu didn’t just want to survive—he wanted to live a stable, happy life.

So, real life matters couldn’t be delayed either.

After riding his bike back home, his sister Lin Zhao wasn’t home—on weekends when her small eatery had good business, Lin Zhao would work late to earn more.

Although recently Lin Yu had been slowly conveying the message to his sister that ”I can earn quite a bit of money,” it wasn’t easy to completely change Lin Zhao’s habits overnight.

Simply stir-frying some scallion oil minced meat and egg sauce as toppings, then cooking some hand-pulled noodles for a quick meal, Lin Yu returned to his study to start studying.

Only after finishing eating and returning to his room did Hannah finally speak softly.

”Ribbit, Director-sama, although your cooking skills are good too... why do you never let me help with cooking?”

Lin Yu looked at Hannah, her two tentacles tapping together in front of her like fidgeting fingers, and belatedly patted his head.

”Oh right, I forgot you can cook too!”

”Mainly because my sister usually does the cooking, so I haven’t needed your help!”

Hannah scratched her head: ”Ribbit? That’s Director-sama’s older sister?!”

”But she looks even younger than you!”

As Hannah spoke, Lin Yu burst into silent laughter.

”Too bad I can’t introduce you to my sister, otherwise if you said that to her face, she’d be absolutely thrilled.”
