Chapter 693: Chapter 693: Duties of a Bodyguard_1

”Could this... be a Semi Innate Grand Master?!”

”How is that possible?!”

The guards by his side all took a few steps back, their faces filled with shock as they looked at Jiang Chen, with a few of them even crying out in surprise.

They all thought Jiang Chen was a Semi Innate Grandmaster. No one dared to consider that Jiang Chen might be an Innate Grandmaster; after all, Jiang Chen was far too young.

”Ah!”

Tian Cheng bellowed, straightening his body to withstand Jiang Chen’s oppressive aura, and lifted his head to meet Jiang Chen’s eyes squarely.

”I’ll ask you once more, will you execute my orders?” Jiang Chen said with a cold gaze, his body radiating a chilling intent to kill.

Barbarian’s complexion changed, and he was about to speak when Yan Hu stepped forward, placed a hand on Barbarian’s shoulder, and stopped him from speaking.

”I won’t!” Tian Cheng said with a pale face, his body shaking as he struggled to stand upright.

”Very good!” Jiang Chen’s face suddenly turned amiable, the murderous intent disappeared, and the overwhelming aura dissipated as Jiang Chen dispersed it.

”Not bad, you shouldn’t. I appreciate your character that does not fear power.” Jiang Chen said with a slight smile, looking at Tian Cheng with approval, and then continued,

”The duty of a guard is to protect, and what is needed is loyalty. But the loyalty should be to the family, not to any particular person in power. If a decision made by someone in power is clearly going to harm the family, then you should not carry it out, you should even try to stop it, because what you are protecting is not just a person but the family, the entire Jiang Family!”

The crowd of guards were all stunned for a moment, and Barbarian too stared blankly at Jiang Chen. Why did this speech sound so awkward? Were they to be loyal to the family or to the person they were guarding?

”Take your time to think about it. I hope after you’ve thought it through, you can achieve it.” Jiang Chen said with a gentle smile, then turned and walked towards the archway.

Barbarian grabbed Yan Hu, who was about to follow Jiang Chen, and whispered, ”Hu Zi, tell me, what is Young Master’s true strength? Is he really Semi Innate? And what did he mean by what he said just now?”

”You can figure out Young Master’s strength for yourself, as for the meaning behind his words...”

Yan Hu glanced at the guards who wore puzzled expressions, raised his voice, and explained, ”What Young Master meant is, you are guards of the family. Whom you guard is assigned by the family, so you must prioritize the family. No matter who it is, if they endanger the family, even if it’s the person you are guarding, you can’t carry out their orders. Do you understand?”

All the guards were stunned for a moment, then gradually came to realisation and turned their heads towards the archway, their eyes revealing complex emotions.

Yan Hu smiled faintly, patted Barbarian on the shoulder, and quickly followed Jiang Chen.

”Young Master, would you like to take a look over there?” Butler Lu asked with a light laugh as they walked out of the training ground and returned to the first courtyard, pointing towards the right archway.

”No need to go there. To kill a chicken to warn the monkeys, there has to be a chicken to kill,” Jiang Chen said lightly shaking his head, then turned towards the second courtyard.

Butler Lu was taken aback, then smiled contentedly and continued as they walked,

”The Jiang Family has a total of six courtyards. The first is the entrance, the second is the guest hall, the third consists of guest rooms, the fourth contains the dining hall, banquet hall, conference rooms, etc., the fifth is where the Jiang Family members live, and the sixth is where the higher-ups of the Jiang Family reside, including Elder Master Jiang, Jiang Minghui, and the three great elders. Of course, the courtyard where you stay is also over there.”

Listening to Butler Lu’s introduction, they walked through a five-meter-wide stone archway, and a group of young men and women came into view.

”Jiang Yujie?” Jiang Chen’s eyes narrowed slightly as he looked at Jiang Yujie among the crowd.

”Haha, Cousin Jiang Chen, we meet again. I didn’t recognize you last time I went to Dingjing. If I had known it was you, I would have definitely treated you to a drink.” Jiang Yujie came forward with a laugh, reaching out to pat Jiang Chen’s shoulder.

Jiang Chen stepped to the side to avoid Jiang Yujie’s hand and said indifferently, ”You didn’t recognize me? If you hadn’t recognized me, would you have just left like that?”

Jiang Yujie stiffened for a moment, his face taking on an awkward expression as he withdrew his hand, a hint of resentful poison flashing in the depths of his eyes.

”Heh, so arrogant. Isn’t he just a live-in son-in-law? He really shames our Jiang Family.” A mocking voice rose among the younger generation of the Jiang Family.

The younger members of the Jiang Family turned to look at a young man whose eyes were filled with disdain when looking at Jiang Chen. On closer inspection, there was also a thick jealousy, and his eyes glanced continuously at Ye Jingyi and Leng Ye.

”Jiang Yuque, haven’t I said that Jiang Chen became a live-in son-in-law due to unavoidable circumstances?”

The stunning young woman glared at Jiang Yuque and stepped forward to face Jiang Chen, ”Cousin Jiang Chen, we meet again. Who would have thought, the one who saved our mother and daughter turned out to be the rightful eldest grandson of our Jiang Family!”

”You are... Sister Jiang Yuting?” Jiang Chen looked at the young woman in some surprise, for she was the mother in the car accident that he had saved back then.

”Yes, it’s me!” Jiang Yuting said with a light laugh and a nod.

Jiang Chen smiled, ”I never imagined you were also a member of the Jiang Family.”

”Young Master, Miss Yu Ting is the woman of Young Master Ming Lou,” Butler Lu spoke softly, ”Master Yujie is the son of Miss Ming Yao, sister of Master Ming Qian, and carries the Jiang surname along with Miss Ming Yao. This is...”

Butler Lu introduced the younger members of the Jiang Family present, and Jiang Chen nodded at them one by one.

”Haha... Chen’er is here!” A burst of laughter sounded as Elder Master Jiang arrived from the third courtyard into the second, accompanied by three middle-aged men.

”Grandfather!” Jiang Chen called out with a smile.

”Good! It’s good that you’ve come!” Elder Master Jiang patted Jiang Chen’s shoulder and turned to point at the three middle-aged men behind him, ”This is your eldest uncle Jiang Minghui, your second uncle Jiang Mingqian, and your fourth uncle Jiang Mingkun.”

”Greetings to my three uncles!” Jiang Chen smiled and nodded at the three men.

”Haha, Jiang Chen, I’ve heard a lot about you; truly an impressive figure!”

Jiang Mingqian laughed heartily as he patted Jiang Chen’s shoulder, then turned to glance at Ye Jingyi and Leng Ye with a smile, ”These two girls must be Ye Jingyi and Gong Lin, right? Didn’t Yè Yùwǎn come? That’s a big star there!”

A cold light flashed in Jiang Chen’s eyes. Jiang Mingqian had just given him a backhanded compliment, highlighting that he had three women. If he was not aware of the Jiang Family’s ways, that would have been quite embarrassing.

However, since he had come to understand the Jiang Family, Jiang Chen was not about to take this veiled insult lying down.

”This is Jingyi, my wife, and this is Leng Ye, her bodyguard,” Jiang Chen introduced Ye Jingyi and Leng Ye, glancing at the empty space behind Jiang Mingqian with a puzzled look on his face. ”Second Uncle, I heard you took seven aunties. How come I haven’t seen any of them?”
