”…”

My father suddenly fell silent, the atmosphere darkened as I noticed him gripping his fists tightly, he seemed to be thinking about something very deeply.

”Have you ever wondered where you originate from?” He asked, suddenly glancing into my eyes.

”What do you mean? I come from… from mom, right?” I asked.

”Well, yes… but I mean your other half, the other half you keep hidden within your human half,” he said. ”Your mother both had the Bloodline of the Darkwood Fae and was a Dhampir, but she was still a human, technically. You inherited that part of her, being born unlike me.”

”…”

”But as it was shown in that battle, beneath your skin, thereʼs a part of me,” he said. ”You possess a fragment of my very being… this is how your mother was able to become pregnant, after all, I donʼt work… like humans do, you know? I think I donʼt have to explain more than that.”

”I-I see…” I nodded.

”One fateful night when we expressed each otherʼs love, I gave her a piece of me, and she took it within her womb, and thatʼs how you were born,” he smiled. ”I never actually thought possible for someone to give birth to one of my children… after all, I am no human, nor a spirit, not even a god. I am… something else.” Love this story? Show your support on *.

”And thatʼs why youʼre asking me where I come from? That other half you inherited to me, what I am… that half has the same origins, yes,” I nodded.

”Indeed,” He nodded. ”I am asking you this because I want to know what you think, who am I to you? aside from your father… I donʼt look human at all.”

”You… Well, I never thought about it too deeply…?” I wondered.

”Hmm, youʼre lying…” he immediately saw through me. ”Youʼve thought about it more than once, havenʼt you?”

”Ugh…” I sighed.

”Not even I know exactly what I am, or where I came from,” he said. ”I only know that one day, I fell from the stars into this planet, thousands of years ago, at the beginning of the Neolithic Age.”

”T-That old?!” I gasped.

”Yes, but back then, I lacked that much intelligence as I have now… I was nothing less but a rampaging beast, devouring any creature on my path, humans of those times quickly called me by many names. I was a Calamity, Monster, the Bringer of Destruction… or Chaos.”

”Uh…”

”I work differently than other living beings in this world… I am… a being entirely made of Chaotic Cosmic Energy, with no true, definitive shape. I am… some sort of ”thing” with no real definition.”

”I donʼt think youʼre just a ”thing”… I am sure you must belong somewhere, maybe you even are the member of a species of aliens?”

”Hahaha, you donʼt know how much Iʼve fantasized about such a thing… to have a place to belong, a place to call home. People that was like me… Alas, only when you were born was I able to finally meet someone like me, your mother gifted me such an incredible, beautiful gift.”

”But she…”

”Yeah, she… she passed away not shortly after. Giving birth to you, a fragment of my own being… it must have been what did it.”

”No, it wasnʼt your fault!”

”I tried to stop her… I didnʼt want her to do this… to gamble her own life for the chance… of giving me someone that would share eternity by my side.”

”…”

”But she rejected my words, and she said, with a confident smile… that she didnʼt want me to be alone anymore.”

”Dad…”

Out of nowhere, I started crying.

A surge of emotions I had not experienced in a long while quickly took over me.

Mother went so far for him… to create me, to not let father ever be alone anymore…

To share eternity with him…

”It wasnʼt a sure thing that she would pass away. We did everything we could to help her grow stronger physically… but even then, the chances were low and… Luck has never been on my side.”

He drank some tea, as he caressed my face, cleaning my tears.

I see now…

I understand whatʼs the biggest difference between this man, my father, and the monster that Frank had to fight back in his original timeline.

It wasnʼt just that I was born, it was that he met my mother of this world, someone that made him feel special, loved, and…

That didnʼt want him to be alone.

She knew that he would only fall once more into darkness if he was alone upon her death, knowing that even as a Dhampir, she had a lifespan that would one day end.

Therefore, she decided to give him the greatest gift she possibly could, a child, just like him, capable of living for eternity, born from chaos.

Me.

”Your mother was a wonderful woman… And even now, I miss her so much…”

Father suddenly started crying as well, tears made of miasma falling from his face.

”I had even tried entering the Underworld, and I had a brief war against dozens of Death Gods as I tried to bring her back to me from the depths of the Abyss… but alas, it was a hopeless endeavor.”

”Why?”

”The Laws of this World, or this World itself, Gaia, she rejected the idea of me bringing the dead back to life as I intended, and even when I tried to find her, I could not. The world itself was against me.”

”I see…”

”The Gods and my subordinates, all of them begged me to stop, as my wrath would only destroy the underworld realms and bring destruction to all…”

”…”

”And I did… I stopped; I forced myself to not be a monster… Because of you. they reminded me of my beloved baby daughter, who was waiting back home, asking where her father was… Even though I missed my wife dearly… I knew I had to go back to you, it was the right thing to do… and it was childish, and stupid to think I could simply fight my way through to revive your mother… I had to let her go and move on.”

”Father…”

”If it wasnʼt for you, my dear Kireina… I wouldʼve destroyed this world upon the sorrow of your motherʼs death…”

”…”

I looked down, as he held my hands gently.

Father is a very complicated person.

Someone that hides his true feelings and suffers beneath a mask of nonchalant charisma with a sprinkle of ruthlessness.

”So… what does this have to do with hunting down Frank?”

”…”

He looked down, sighing.

”As I said, I… we, are monsters.”

”…”

”We came from the stars, born from… whatever we came from. And every once in a while, I feel this hunger, this endless… hunger.”
