A Sorcerer’s Journey

Chapter 166: Eighteenth of a Second

Four seasons had come and gone in sequence like a loop…

Thirty years had passed!

Thirty years might be very long for sorcerer apprentices, yet it was only a negligible amount of time for the Seven Rings Tower and the entire Sorcerer World.

From Grimm’s enrollment into the Black Isotta Sorcerer Academy until he was qualified as a sacred sorcerer apprentice, it only took him twenty years.

Thirty years had passed by, with Grimm repeating his daily routine day and night without fail. Boredom manifesting his heart was as thick as the layer of dust covering the ground in his laboratory.

Of course, just like a child who would not realize how much taller he or she had grown, Grimm did not notice it either.

Grimm shaved his stubble and cut off a portion of his long golden hair. His face looked clean and sleek in the mirror. Grimm gently touched his smooth chin, then went on to start another monotonous day of studies and experiments.

Such dedication to spend countless mundane days was the cost every sorcerer had to pay to master the deeper meanings of the mysterious arcane magic. A cost well known to all, yet only a handful of the most elite sorcerers could endure the loneliness and isolation.

Grimm walked into the Destructive Energy Research Laboratory.

Grimm’s Destructive Energy Reaction Log was created thirteen years ago. Within these thirteen years, Grimm had gradually collected some of the most basic data on Destructive Energy through this relatively simple instrument, although the data was useless to others.

After removing the solid rubber block from the Destructive Energy Reaction Log, Grimm filled it up with new liquefied high-density glue and began to stir evenly with the Repulsive and Attractive Force until the bubble disappeared. The instrument cover was then carefully placed back on the log.

In the sealed environment, the glue required an hourglass for the conversion of its properties, transforming its structure into solid rubber blocks. Only when the internal structure had stabilized, the next experimental record could then be initiated.

While waiting, Grimm sat on the bench and began to summarize the experimental data he had collected.

First of all, from more than ten years of recorded data, the Destructive Energy Reaction Log had documented the energy response of thousands of water and fire element combinations with different proportions that could change ‘Fire Blast’ into ‘Steam Blast’. Some combinations did not give any Destructive Energy reaction at all.

Eventually, Grimm was able to determine that the Fire Blast Spell’s utilization of Destructive Energy was between a tight range of nineteen percent to twenty-three percent.

For example, a sorcerer who cast a Fire Blast Spell by combining water and fire elements would obtain Destructive Energy from their reactions. Such energy conversion was similar to the first experiment taught by Sorceress Elaine during Grimm’s first lesson in the Black Isotta Sorcerer Academy. She threw a magic stone in the air and made it explode.

That kind of energy utilization efficiency was not on par with the Magic Stone’s energy level.

Such a waste of energy was a despicable act, unacceptable for any sorcerer who had mastered the utilization of energy conversion!

Grimm only wanted to master the utilization of energy conversion. Once he had achieved his goal, it would be easy for him to convert all forms of energy to fit one spell, and multiply its efficiency by a hundred and fifty times, which was a result from thirty times multiplied by five!

He could even enhance a Fire Bat Spell which was similar to a Fireball Spell by doing some energy research…

Secondly, Destructive Energy should be in the category of a higher energy. Theoretically, it should be able to absorb any known matter or element to gain the same amount of energy.

The nature of such high-level energy was intriguing. Any matter and element would be completely absorbed by it with no traces left behind. Such a phenomenon was like a void creature that would completely devour anything in the material world, or a creature from the material world losing their physical body piece by piece as they stayed in the void.

Grimm almost lost his mind trying to think of an effective method to collect and use Destructive Energy.

In theory, Grimm still could not find any element that would not be annihilated by the Destructive Energy to forge a “container”. This acted as a barrier for Grimm as he could not surpass the Ancient Sorcerers’ mastery of the Destructive Energy. The best he could do was channel these Destructive Energies into a Fire Blast spell, just like any Ancient Sorcerer.

Last but not least, the time needed for Destructive Energy to consume foreign materials was one-eighteenth of a second. To collect Destructive Energy as an element, Grimm had to merge water and fire elements at a frequency of more than eighteen times per second. Only by making a perfect sequence, the energy collected would be pure Destructive Energy.

This was the transient nature of Destructive Energy.

Such a pattern of the Destructive Energy left Grimm with no choice but to superimpose two separate bases at the bottom of the Destructive Energy Reaction Log. Each base was made of eighteen layers of separate elements to form a perfect one-second reaction cycle.

The idea was to have eighteen layers of water and fire elements imposed on each base respectively, which meant that a total of thirty six layers were added. Each base had six energy-reaction nodes. Such a design would take Grimm at least two hundred and sixteen years to complete.

To design the reaction of the magical elements in a sequence to be induced perfectly at the frequency of one-hundredth of a second uniform frequency response, Grimm needed to spend at least three hundred years to gain a slim chance of successfully creating the “Unabsorbable Destructive Energy Reaction Log”.

Even if Grimm found a way to contain Destructive Energy in the future, he would have to find a solution to keep the reaction of water and fire energy continuously channeled. Only then would he be able to keep generating Destructive Energy.

Based on his ideas, Grimm drew circuit diagrams and ratio analysis charts for this experiment on a sheet of laboratory experiment plan. After he recorded the findings on Destructive Energy nature study yesterday, half of an hourglass time had passed.

The high-density liquefied transparent gel in the Destructive Energy property recorder had been turned into a solid block.

Grimm approached his Destructive Energy Reaction Log, adjusted the energy ratio of water to fire element from fifty one point three five percent to forty eight point six five percent. Then, Grimm inserted Crystallized Energy Stones into both bases of the Destructive Energy Reaction Log. After a series of complicated operations, the energy of different elements of the pedestal at both ends began to penetrate the high-density capacity gel.

Gradually, a dark red area started materializing at the center of the transparent gel.

Waves of energy fluctuations started occurring inside the Destructive Energy Reaction Log. The recitations on the Energy Conservation Seal started to move randomly on the crystal glass, forcing the scattered Destructive Energy to converge into a small container.

After a few breaths, the Destructive Energy within the Reaction Log was peacefully contained.

At this time, the solid-state capacity rubber block inside the Destructive Energy Reaction Log had changed. At the center, a large number of bubble stripe gathering points were formed. It was the gathering point of Destructive Energy within an instant of one-eighteenth of a second.

Grimm began recording the degree of attack power and annihilation phenomena of the Destructive Energy reaction on a handwritten page.

The obvious difference was that in the Destructive Energy reaction, once the proportion of fire elements exceeded fifty percent, then the Fire Blast Spell would be enhanced with a diffused burst. This caused the bubbles in the Destructive Energy Reaction Log to propel in all directions away from the center of the transparent gel.

When the water element proportion exceeded fifty percent, the bubbles left by the Steam Blast in the transparent gel would show a spiral ball contraction, and all the bubbles would condense into a mass and solidify towards the origin point.

In theory, the Crystal Glass Seal runes around the Destructive Energy Reaction Log consumed more energy than the Fire Blast could produce.

The knowledge of Destructive Reaction was a very much advanced class in Energy Conversion.

Grimm recorded the bubbles’ patterns with his crystal ball and opened the seal on the Reaction Log. Handling it as delicately as possible, Grimm poured a potion called “Almutilin” into the solid-state transparent gel and shut the seal on the Reaction Log.

Moments later…

The transparent gel became clearer, but the bubbles within it were now red, filled with some kind of gas reaction.

“One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight… two hundred and thirty four, two hundred and thirty five, two hundred and thirty six… one thousand and twenty one, one thousand and twenty two, one thousand and twenty three, one thousand and twenty four. The number of filamentous Destructive Energy remained as one thousand and twenty four reactions, and the number of reactions was still the multiplication of twos and tens… ” Grimm muttered as he recorded his observations on his handwritten notes.

Grimm took his handwritten notes and sat quietly in front of the microscope at the test bench, silently carving the basic reaction runes on a lava stone.

It was a boring thing to do.

Clearly, Grimm had decided to spend centuries to enhance his Destructive Energy Reaction Log to record events for an eternity.

Perhaps the current ‘Eternal Destructive Energy Reaction Log’ could not aid Grimm in his mastery of Destructive Energy, but if Grimm did not enhance it, it would be impossible for him to fulfill his goal

Six hourglasses later…

Grimm left the Voodoo lab and sat on a long bench in front of the dining table. Like a hardwired robot, he ingested his “delicious feast” that had lost all its taste completely. Little Myna had no appetite to eat anything, he looked at Grimm with a bored face and said, “Well? My great master Grimm, you don’t look good today, you did not take any drugs, did you?”

Grimm had just vaccinated his own body with a new Voodoo for Intoxication Sorcery. His body was weak and his face was as white as a sheet.

Grimm glanced at Little Myna and replied faintly, “I noticed you have not been meeting Angelis recently. What happened?”

“Sigh, that guy went to a different world called Porte Biwa a year ago.” the Myna said indifferently.

“Huh, why did he leave so soon? Didn’t you say that he still has decades before his next mandatory mission?” Grimm asked as he groaned in an attempt to cut his steak.

The Myna spread his wings and shrugged like a human. He said, “I don’t know what the guy is thinking. It seems that he intends to go to a very strange world of Sorcerer Coalition, but is short on Sorcerer Essences.”

Grimm nodded, agreeing with the Myna’s assumption.

For most wizards who did not have a self-research system, the easiest way to gain inspiration and knowledge was to learn from an exotic world.

Often the different rules of the exotic world and the Sorcerer World made it easy for the sorcerer to acquire some relatively simple and practical sorcery knowledge.

There was nothing but silence for a moment, and the old Myna stood respectfully on Grimm’s back.

Suddenly, Grimm paused in the midst of his feast with a disconcerting look. He took out his crystal ball and an old green-eyed sorceress appeared on the crystal ball. The old sorceress smiled and stated, “Grimm of the Black Isotta Tower, I’ve advanced to an official sorcerer. Do you still have your Mechanical Armor Core?”

So, this was Julni. Did she advance to an official sorcerer too?

She must have chosen to sacrifice her body and life for energy. That would explain her old appearance.

Grimm was not surprised. Such incidents no longer caused emotional feelings in Grimm. He wiped his mouth with a napkin and nodded at the crystal ball. He was interested as he replied, “Of course, it is still with me.”
