”Hmm, this cornbread is delicious. Third Brother, Mr., you should try it.”

Saying that, Zhu Chongba immediately invited Tang He and Li Shanchang to eat. The two soon took a bite, instantly drawn to the cornbread.

Li Shanchang said, ”This is really delicious.”

”Haha, if you like it, eat more.”

The old man encouraged them, while Tang He asked, ”I’ve been to Hubei before, but I’ve never seen this kind of food.”

The old man replied, ”This was introduced from the City Lord Mansion. The City Lord taught us to eat it this way. Once we tasted how delicious it was, it spread from one to ten, ten to a hundred, and now it’s a popular dish here.”

”And this pot not only can stew fish but also chicken, duck, goose, pork, and even some cabbage. It can stew everything; just stick a circle of cornbread on the edge.”

Hearing this, Zhu Chongba said, ”City Lord Chen is truly an extraordinary person. His influence on the people’s food habits is substantial.”

The old man responded, ”Of course, our City Lord is the best official in the world. At my age, I’ve never seen another like him.”

At this time, Li Shanchang took a bite of fish and said, ”This fish has a nice taste. You don’t seem to have a large river nearby, where did this big fish come from?”

The old man replied, ”From the reservoir!”

”Reservoir?”

Zhu Chongba felt like he was hearing about another new thing. The old man explained, ”Yes, each village has one. The reservoir was built by the City Lord, and it’s a real treasure. Previously, we suffered either floods or droughts, but with the reservoir, we can store water during floods and use it for irrigation during droughts. Thanks to the reservoir, we can harvest regardless of floods or droughts.”

”Moreover, fish can be raised in the reservoir. Look at this large carp, raised right in the reservoir. It’s big and plump. Nowadays, people in our village occasionally eat this big carp; we never even dared dream of it before.”

”Life now is just like in a dream.”

”Alright, dear guests, enjoy your meal. I’m going to fetch some water for a drink.”

Saying this, the old man left, and a young man stood up saying, ”I’m full.”

He left as well.

Zhu Chongba was savoring the advantages of the reservoir and then looked at Li Shanchang, saying, ”Mr., note this down. We’ll try to build one later.”

Li Shanchang nodded lightly and said, ”Such a citizen-beneficial strategy is definitely worth promoting, Chen Jiusi is indeed a remarkable person.”

Tang He was gnawing on cornbread and said, ”That’s right, Chen Jiusi has so many tricks, but this cornbread is really good. Big Brother, we need to take some corn back.”

Hearing this, Zhu Chongba pulled out two ears of corn from his sleeve and said, ”I just got these.”

Tang He saw this, raised his hand, and also dug into his sleeve, pulling out two more ears of corn.

Zhu Chongba said, ”Get some more. By the way, Mr. Li, you take two ears too.”

Li Shanchang blushed and said, ”I, as a learned man...”

Zhu Chongba said, ”Yes, learned men have little strength, you take fewer!”

Li Shanchang pulled a bitter face, and by then everyone had finished eating. Zhu Chongba looked at the returning old man and said, ”Old Brother, sorry for bothering you. We will take our leave now.”

The old man asked, ”Won’t you stay a bit longer?”

Zhu Chongba replied, ”No, no,” and walked towards his horse caravan. After all, they had stolen corn and dared not stay long. Before leaving, Zhu Chongba shouted, ”Sis, we’re leaving!”

”Hey!”

Ma Xiuying instantly came out, and as she reached the carriage, she saw the old man behind pushing a cart full of corn. Seeing the cartload, Zhu Chongba was stunned and said, ”This?”

Ma Xiuying said, ”I bought them! This corn is so good, I thought I’d buy some to plant. It might benefit the people, husband, didn’t you consider that?”

Hearing this, Zhu Chongba looked at Tang He, then at the blushing Li Shanchang and said, ”You can even buy them!”
