Daily Intelligence System: Don't Kill Me, Honey!

Chapter 977: Chapter 246: Chen Jie: Am I the Garrison Commander?

After the two arrived, they scanned the room with their eyes before looking at Wang Baobao and saying, ”Is everyone here? Let’s begin!”

Upon hearing this, Wang Baobao immediately responded submissively, ”Yes.”

He then cleared his throat and said, ”Everyone, yesterday’s battle was devastating for us. This meeting will primarily conduct a review of yesterday’s engagement. The first item on the agenda is to summarize the casualty situation!”

”Huo Bima!”

”I’m here.”

Huo Bima stood up, and Wang Baobao said, ”Report on the situation of the Black Cavalry.”

”Yes.”

”The Black Cavalry received orders yesterday to follow the commander out of the city to confront the enemy. We beheaded over three thousand people and slaughtered eight hundred beasts, including two hundred Quan Divine Soldiers under Elder Quan of the Zoroastrian Sect. Our own casualties were over three hundred, with more than a hundred seriously injured. Almost everyone was slightly injured, but after treatment by the doctors, they remain combat-capable.”

Wang Baobao nodded slightly and then shifted focus to the defense of the city, at which point Zhao Ya spoke, ”The main battlefield for the city defense yesterday was the East Gate, which I was responsible for guarding. We suffered nearly two thousand casualties and almost had the gate breached. Later, other Sect members came to support, but over a thousand of them also died, with more than three thousand injured. There are about six thousand left who can still fight.”

”Combat capability is retained, but there is a shortage of troops.”

Upon hearing this, Wang Baobao said, ”Hmm, very good.”

”In other words, we still have the power for one more fight, but we are currently lacking troops for the city defense. Does anyone have any suggestions?”

Upon hearing this, everyone remained silent, until Zhao Ya spoke, ”My thought is to gather the Jianghu people in the city to assist in defending the city. Wasn’t there a group called the Four Dragons and Eight Tigers here before?”

”They have over a thousand disciples. In this national crisis, do they intend to stay uninvolved?”

Upon hearing Zhao Ya’s words, several Hundred Households in the room furrowed their brows and immediately said, ”Commandery Princess, these are all Jianghu people. According to the regulations, our court cannot easily mobilize them, otherwise...”

”Otherwise what? I am the court-appointed Jianghu Chief of Hubei Road. Not to mention this mere Huangzhou Prefecture, the entire Jianghu in Hubei Road is under my jurisdiction. If I want to summon them, what is the problem?”

Zhao Ya directly confronted the Hundred Households who spoke.

Chen Jie looked at the Hundred Households and noticed that he appeared displeased. Chen Jie had already investigated and found that these local officials were colluding with local guilds. If local guilds were to be involved now, it would likely affect their vested interests. Therefore, many officials were unwilling for the Commandery Princess to involve local guilds.

Chen Jie naturally understood their thoughts and had mentioned it to Zhao Ya, but Zhao Ya, like a dragon crossing the river, didn’t care much about the mudfish’s thoughts.

At this point, Chen Jie cleared his throat and said, ”Commandery Princess, this matter needs thorough discussion. The guilds within the city are complex. If we forcefully summon them, some could become rebellious and possibly collude with the enemy!”

Zhao Ya looked at Chen Jie upon hearing this but was abruptly interrupted by a loud slap on the table, followed by a cold voice saying, ”If the Commandery Princess decides to summon the guilds within the city for resistance, so be it. Who in the local guilds would dare not comply!”

Upon hearing this, everyone was shocked, wondering who was audacious enough, but when they turned their heads, they all fell silent because they saw it was Gui Yannian who had spoken.

Gui Yannian’s face was as cold as water, with a frosty expression, he said, ”Rest assured, Commandery Princess, this afternoon I and Ah He will visit the major Sects in the city separately. I want to see who dares to disrespect us both!”

Everyone present was so frightened by Gui Yannian’s words that they were silent as cicadas in the cold.

Gui Yannian then cast a stern glance at those present and said, ”I know some of you are colluding with Jianghu sects. I didn’t want to pursue this, but anyone who dares to betray us today shouldn’t blame us brothers for being merciless.”

Upon hearing this, everyone shivered in fear and said, ”We wouldn’t dare.”

Gui Yannian stated, ”Moreover, I must mention, yesterday’s Zoroastrian Sect sent out Dharma King Han Miaozhen, who has been blocked by us two. You don’t need to worry, as long as we’re here, Han Miaozhen won’t interfere in the battlefield, so the outcome of this war depends on your performance.”

Upon hearing this, Wang Baobao and Zhao Ya exchanged a glance, knowing that Gui Yannian was boosting their morale.

Wang Baobao then spoke, ”Good, since the Turtle and Crane masters are confident in stopping Han Miaozhen, and I am confident, with the help of five thousand cavalry, to immobilize Elder Quan and his Quan Divine Soldiers, the ultimate result of this battle will depend on the refugees versus our city guards.”

Upon hearing this, the audience all nodded in agreement, but at this time, a Hundred Households stood up and said, ”Lord Darugachi, you’re right, the outcome indeed lies between our city defenders and the refugees. However, Lord, the refugees have now amassed a hundred thousand strong and are still gathering from all directions, while we have no reinforcements.”

”Even if our city guards strive forward and fear no sacrifice, we only have a little over six thousand in total. Gradually, we’ll be exhausted. It won’t take much for the enemy to launch three to five more thorough attacks like today’s, and we’ll be completely spent.”

”If that happens, we still won’t be able to hold Huangzhou Prefecture.”

Upon hearing this, Wang Baobao said, ”Hmm, I understand your concern. I’ve already sent someone to inform the court, and soon, I believe the court’s main army will arrive. So, as long as we can withstand the attacks and hold on for a few more days, the army may arrive to crush these bandits in one fell swoop.”
