Chapter 792: Chapter 215 Zhou Chu: Yes, Lord Yelu, I must oppose Chen Jiu 4_3

”My father, my father he... no, he wouldn’t...”

Tears streamed down Liu Song’s face while Bai Mosheng beside him, lost in thought, clenched his fists.

Chen Jie sighed and said, ”Alas... mourn in moderation.”

As Chen Jie spoke, he reached into his coat. This motion was actually a feint designed to conceal the storage capability of the iron ring in his hand.

He pulled out a token from the Guild Cao.

Chen Jie said, ”The situation was dire at the time. We encountered something terrifying. Guild Leader Liu was struck by it. Little did we expect that the thing was highly poisonous; Qimu Ge from the Yelu Mansion was also poisoned by it, eventually dying in agony.”

”Old Brother Liu didn’t want to be treated in such a manner and ultimately took his own life. Before his death, he gave me this token to pass on to you, telling me to let you know to manage the Guild Cao’s affairs well.”

Chen Jie patted Liu Song on the shoulder.

Holding the token that symbolized the leadership of Guild Cao, Liu Song cried out loud, ”Father!”

Bai Mosheng by his side, however, slightly furrowed his brow, glanced at Chen Jie, bowed his head without a word, with traces of tears also streaking down from the corners of his eyes.

Liu Laoguai still had his own unique charisma; it was unexpected that this treasure-seeking journey would turn into a permanent parting.

Liu Song was so overwhelmed with grief that he sobbed uncontrollably, and Chen Jie didn’t know how to comfort him, so he could only wait for Liu Song to finish crying.

Liu Laoguai had given him the token wanting him to merge the Gui Cao, but at this moment, Chen Jie felt an inexplicable soft-heartedness, and taking away the base of the business in front of his son, Chen Jie did not know how to broach the subject.

Thus, he gave the token back to Liu Song.

Liu Song held onto the token and cried for a long time, then slowly stood up, bowed to Chen Jie and said, ”Thank you, Guild Leader Chen, for bringing back my father’s relic.”

After saying that, he turned around and left. Bai Mosheng bowed to Chen Jie and turned to leave as well, watching their retreating figures, Chen Jie remained silent, feeling a sense of sorrow himself.

However, he couldn’t afford to be sentimental now; he had to think of a way to deal with the impending famine.

Just now, on his way back, Chen Jie had checked the flood damage in Mianshui over the past few days.

He discovered that a large area was affected, and many farmlands, important for the autumn harvest that was less than two months away, and necessary for getting through the winter, were devastated.

The villagers could barely make do with their current food stocks until the autumn harvest, but the recent flood had destroyed their good fields and many families’ stored grain.

Even scarier, several large granaries built outside the city were also flooded, the grain completely ruined.

The villagers had just dealt with the water disaster and might soon face a famine, with no knowing how many would starve to death.

And this was something Chen Jie could not allow. Mianshui County had become his home base, and by removing some unstable elements, this place would be completely his stronghold.

Just like Xiantao Village back in the day, which was the foundation of Chen Jie.

And the people here were Chen Jie’s foundation; he could not and would not allow them to face mass starvation.

Because all of this was Chen Jie’s property.

Chen Jie’s goal was to become Emperor, and to become Emperor without a stronghold was impossible. Mianshui County was Chen Jie’s base, and he could not allow anything to happen to it!

Thinking this, Chen Jie said to Chen Heng, ”Come, let’s go to the Commandery Princess.”

Chen Jie planned to seek help from Zhao Ya, as such disaster relief was the responsibility of the court, and currently, only the official granary had food. It could only rely on the Commandery Princess. Moreover, given Zhao Ya’s character, she would not stand by and watch the people freeze and starve to death.

Thus, Chen Jie headed towards the residence of the Commandery Princess.

...

Chen Jie headed to the Commandery Princess’s residence, while on the other side, Liu Song, holding the token left by Liu Laoguai, cried bitterly.

Bai Mosheng stood beside him, wanting to say something but hesitating.

As they walked along, suddenly a figure appeared ahead dressed in the Yelu Mansion house slave’s attire.

”Is that Guild Liu’s young master Liu Song ahead?”

Hearing this, Liu Song looked up and saw the house slave, and asked, ”Who are you, and what do you want with me?”

”I am a house slave of the Yelu Mansion, sent by Lord Yelu to find you.”

Liu Song frowned, ”Yelu? What does he want with me?”

He turned to look at Bai Mosheng, who said, ”It’s okay, it’s not like he can do whatever he wants now. Go and hear him out; I’ll wait here for you.”

Hearing this, Liu Song dismounted and walked towards the man.

When he got close, Liu Song looked at the house slave and demanded, ”What exactly do you want to say?”

The house slave looked at Liu Song and said, ”Young Master Liu, my master has sent me to relay a message to you.”

”What message?”

The house slave looked at Liu Song and said, ”My master asked me to tell you to be wary of Chen Jiusi. The death of your esteemed father was caused by Chen Jiusi!”

”What? Say that again?”

Liu Song’s eyes immediately reddened upon hearing this, staring at the house slave.

The house slave repeated, ”My lord says, your father’s death was at the hands of Chen Jiusi.”

Hearing this, Liu Song’s expression immediately turned grim, a murderous intent glinted in his eyes, but quickly he took a deep breath and said, ”Chen Jiusi, does your master have any proof?”

”My lord himself is the proof. What status does my master hold, he would not deceive Young Master Liu. Why would you distrust him?”

Liu Song, hearing this, remained silent but then stared at the house slave and said, ”Alright, I understand.”

The house slave was slightly confused by Liu Song’s reaction, thinking this young man was known for his impetuosity, how could he remain calm today?

Thinking this, Liu Song asked, ”Is there anything else?”

The house slave immediately said, ”Also, young master, my master stated that old Guild Leader Liu was his dear friend for many years. He is deeply saddened by his unfortunate death. But if Young Master Liu inherits his father’s role, my master will fully support you, determined to see Guild Cao become once again the largest guild in Mianshui!”
