Chapter 791: Chapter 215 Zhou Chu: Yes, Lord Yelu, I must oppose Chen Jiu 4_2

Upon hearing this, the young disciple immediately brought over the stretcher, and Zhou Chu was carried away on it. Before being taken away, Zhou Chu took a deep look at Chen Jie.

Chen Jie remained silent, and the two merely exchanged a glance before separating.

Watching Zhou Chu being carried away, Xiao Hu, limping, approached and said, ”Guild Leader, Old Zhou’s heart must be really cold now.”

Chen Jie replied, ”Some matters, he needs to figure out on his own, and if he cannot...”

Chen Jie didn’t say anything more, but turned to Xiao Hu and asked, ”Hu Zi, are you alright?”

Chen Xiaohu said, ”Hehe, I’m fine, my butt is a bit sore, but I can endure it.”

Chen Jie said, ”You, go back and recover from your injuries first.”

Chen Jie knew Chen Xiaohu’s purpose in choosing to take the punishment himself was to ensure Zhou Chu didn’t feel too disheartened. By enduring the beating with Zhou Chu, he not only helped Chen Jie assert his authority but also helped Zhou Chu save face.

The three senior members of the Fishing Guild were Xiao Hu, Zhou Chu, and Si Xi.

Now, two had been beaten. If Chen Xiaohu did not endure a beating as well, it would have been embarrassing for the other two, but since all were disciplined, no one could criticize them anymore.

Thus, this beating did not breed resentment.

So, Chen Jie knew Xiao Hu’s intentions and did not stop him, instead rewarding him with a beating.

This punishment also served as a wake-up call for the Fishing Guild Disciples who had become complacent, making them realize the strictness of the guild regulations. No one could escape punishment if they breached the rules—be it Zhou Chu, Si Xi, or Chen Xiaohu.

The guild became more disciplined and cohesive as a result, which was very beneficial overall.

”Dismissed!”

Seeing that his intentions were achieved, Chen Jie waved his hand, signaling everyone to disperse and attend to their duties.

Soon, everyone had left, leaving Chen Jie sitting alone at the doorstep, truly experiencing what it meant to be utterly alone.

Just as Chen Jie felt the weight of solitude, a pair of hands suddenly rested on his shoulders, gently kneading them.

Feeling the strength in the kneading, Chen Jie asked, ”Do you also think I was wrong?”

From behind him, a voice replied, ”I know it’s tough on you too, husband. After all, he’s an old brother who has been with us all the way.”

Chen Jie sighed and said, ”Sigh...”

Then Chen Jie said, ”Wife, later, go and ask master for some golden sore medicine, and take this to Zhou Chu.”

”Chen Heng, you accompany the lady.”

Chen Jie beckoned Chen Heng over.

Chen Heng nodded, ”Yes.”

Su Yunjin said, ”No need, husband. Sister Hua will accompany me.”

At that moment, Third Miss Hua approached and said, ”Don’t worry, I’ll make sure Yunjin is safe.”

Chen Jie said, ”Alright, then have Chen Heng drive for you.”

Saying this, Chen Jie took out a Jade Bottle from his bosom, poured out a Tai Sui Pill, and handed it to Su Yunjin, ”Take this to Zhou Chu too.”

Su Yunjin nodded and said, ”Alright, I will head there now.”

Su Yunjin nodded again and followed the guild’s carriage with Third Miss Hua accompanying her to Zhou Chu’s residence.

At that moment, Chen Jie stood up and said, ”Chen Heng.”

”Subordinate is here.”

Chen Jie asked, ”Has the grain bought by Elder Liu arrived?”

Hearing this, Chen Heng replied, ”Reporting to Guild Leader, some has arrived, but...”

”But what?”

”But only about fifty thousand stones.”

”Why so little? Weren’t we supposed to get 150,000 stones?”

Chen Heng replied, ”Guild Leader, there were originally 150,000 stones, but rebels suddenly attacked Shanxi and the court urgently requisitioned grain, taking all our stock before we could transport it.”

Hearing this, Chen Jie frowned: ”This is bad!”

Thinking it over, Chen Jie asked, ”Where is the grain now?”

Chen Heng replied, ”We have twenty thousand stones stored in our warehouse, the rest is still in the Guild Cao’s warehouse.”

Chen Jie nodded and commanded, ”Immediately retrieve all the grain, then send people to nearby prefecture cities to buy grain. If not available in Huangzhou Prefecture, then try Yong’an Prefecture or Xiao Gan Prefecture.”

Chen Heng said, ”Guild Leader, I’m afraid that won’t work either, since the requisition of grain wasn’t only for Huangzhou Prefecture; those prefectures’ grain reserves are depleted as well. Most likely, only government granaries still have grain.”

”Government granaries.”

Chen Jie frowned—the grain in government granaries couldn’t be sold. In that case, were they out of options?

Chen Jie thought for a moment and then said, ”Get me a horse; I need to find the Commandery Princess!”

Chen Heng replied, ”Yes.”

After finishing, the two prepared to leave, with Chen Heng going to drive for Su Yunjin.

However, just then, they saw a group of horsemen approaching from a distance.

Chen Heng, surprised, said, ”It seems to be people from Guild Cao.”

No sooner had he spoken than a Fishing Guild Disciple approached and reported, ”Guild Leader, it’s Young Guild Leader Liu and Bai Mosheng from Guild Cao.”

Hearing this, Chen Jie commanded, ”Let them come here.”

The order was given, and soon Liu Song and Bai Mosheng approached. Upon seeing Chen Jie, Liu Song bowed and, unable to contain his anxiety, asked, ”Guild Leader Chen, may I ask where my father is?”

Chen Jie’s expression changed slightly upon hearing this.

Looking at Liu Song, Chen Jie said, ”Young Guild Leader Liu, Mr. Bai, please come inside for tea.”

Liu Song replied, ”No, no, Guild Leader Chen, why have all of you returned, yet my father has not? Has something happened to him?”

Chen Jie looked at Liu Song and said, ”Sigh, I was still considering how to tell you, but since you’re here, there’s no point in hiding it. I’ll just say it.”

Liu Song and Bai Mosheng both looked at Chen Jie.

”Elder Liu died in battle.”

”What!”

”How is that possible!”

Upon hearing this, Liu Song shouted in disbelief, looking at Chen Jie, ”Guild Leader Chen, we are not here for jokes.”
