”If an interested party were to make a case,” they could even be accused of being unscrupulous. Otherwise, why would they flood your ancestral grave but not mine?”

Chen Jie fell silent for a moment and said, ”Take me to Xiantao Village.”

As he spoke, Chen Jie turned to Zhao Ya and others and cupped his hands in salute, ”Commandery Princess, everyone, I have some matters to attend to, so I won’t be accompanying you further.”

Hearing this, Zhao Ya replied, ”Fire and water are ruthless, Mr. Chen, please proceed.”

Chen Jie clasped his fists and then, with Chen Wang and the others, hurried towards Xiantao Village.

Watching their departing figures, Yelu clasped his fists and said, ”Commandery Princess, I have something to say.”

Zhao Ya looked at Yelu and said, ”Speak, there are no outsiders here.”

Yelu said, ”Commandery Princess, I feel there is something problematic about Chen Jiusi.”

The Commandery Princess looked at Yelu, who continued, ”Commandery Princess, there were many holes in what he just said. He mentioned that the second floor was fraught with danger, that Ba Tan and Nan Batian were pursued by a werewolf, but if there was a werewolf, why did it only target Ba Tan and Nan Batian and not Chen Jiusi, allowing him to leave unhindered?”

”This logic doesn’t hold up upon scrutiny, so I believe there might have been a three-way struggle on the second floor, and Chen Jiusi, emerging victorious, possibly obtained the legacy of Chang Chun Valley while Ba Tan and Nan Batian, very likely, were killed by Chen Jiusi on the second floor.”

Upon hearing this, Zhao Ya glanced at Yelu and said, ”You do make some sense, but do you have any evidence?”

”Commandery Princess, although I don’t have evidence, Chen Jiusi is not a good man. Despite having some talents and being favored by the Commandery Princess, you must guard against his ambitious and reckless nature to avoid being bitten back!” Yelu said to Zhao Ya.

Zhao Ya looked at Yelu and asked, ”Bitten back?”

Yelu said, ”Exactly, Chen Jiusi is not a content man. First, he aligned with Peng Shizhong, who then died. Later with Nan Batian, who was reviled to death, and each time, he benefited. This is not a good sign. I fear if he follows the Commandery Princess, you too may encounter misfortune.”

”Bold of you to even curse the Commandery Princess!”

No sooner had Yelu spoken, when Ah San immediately interjected with a scold; he had encountered Chen Jiusi in a not-so-friendly meeting and didn’t believe Chen Jiusi to be as sinister as Yelu painted.

However, he had been unable to interject until now and took his chance to denounce Yelu directly.

Hearing this, Yelu glanced at Ah San and said, ”Lord Ah San, you must be cautious as well. This man is skilled at manipulating people, and with your straightforward mind, you might easily be misled.”

Hearing this, Ah San wanted to say something, but Zhao Ya intervened, ”Hmm, I understand this matter. Do you have anything else?”

”Nothing more,” Yelu answered.

Zhao Ya said, ”Hmm, I have other matters to attend to, so I won’t stay longer, farewell.”

Zhao Ya, followed by Ah Da, Ah Er, and Ah San, then left, leaving Yelu frowning at her departing figure. After the ordeal with the Medicine King Treasure, Chen Jiusi could now be described as unassailable.

Not only had his personal power reached the Holding Core Realm, but he had also obtained Elder Liu’s token.

If he were to combine the Fishing Guild and Guild Cao into one, wouldn’t Mianshui become Chen Jiusi’s domain? Then, how could he, Yelu, position himself?

The balance he held was severely compromised, which was not his intention.

Thus, he had only one option left, which was to eliminate Chen Jiusi.

But now that Chen Jiusi had established his foundation, it was difficult to take him down. However, luckily, Zhao Ya planned to take Chen Jiusi away from Mianshui to Huangzhou Prefecture.

Since they were heading to Huangzhou Prefecture, the only ones left in Mianshui would be no big threat; if he couldn’t deal with Chen Jiusi, couldn’t he handle Chen Jiusi’s remaining underlings?

Also, as a wise man, he exerted his brain more than his brawn. If Chen Jiusi wanted to be the saint of Mianshui, he would let him taste true despair.

”This rain is quite an opportune moment.”

Yelu turned and left, having suffered heavy losses during the expedition for the Medicine King Treasure—losing a loyal subordinate and gaining only some rare herbs in exchange, he felt the loss was significant.

But this matter wasn’t concluded yet.

Yelu narrowed his eyes—he had dared to face the County Daru Hua Chi, preparing to strangle all potential threats to the court in the cradle, yet Chen Jiusi’s growth had now completely escaped his control.

If it were only him alone, it would have been fine. A single man’s power, no matter how strong—even at the Martial Arts Peak—couldn’t overturn dynasties.

The key issue was Chen Jie and the Fishing Guild; his actions were becoming more official, turning official duties into his own personal actions. Since he wanted to play official, Yelu would engage in actions that were decidedly un-official.

Thinking this, Yelu turned back to look at Chen Jiusi; maybe his Martial Power was inferior now, but in terms of cunning, Yelu considered himself superior.

Thinking this, Yelu quickly rode back to the county seat to make preparations. Even if Zhao Ya was reluctant to take down Chen Jiusi, he would make sure Chen Jiusi recognized his strength.

Additionally, he was laying the groundwork for the future. Once Chen Jiusi left Mianshui with Zhao Ya, he could crush the remnants of the Fishing Guild in one fell swoop and restore Mianshui to the ideal state he envisioned.

He, Yelu, was an official of the court, and he would never allow local forces to surpass the government.

...

”Commandery Princess, where are we going?”

Ah San looked at their leader leading them towards a distant mountain village and couldn’t help but ask.

”Xiantao Village.”

Hearing this, Ah San asked, ”What are we going there for?”

Zhao Ya did not answer, and after walking with Zhao Ya for a while, Ah San asked again, ”Commandery Princess, do you think Ba Tan and the others were killed by Chen Jiusi?”
