Chapter 728: Chapter 204: Obtaining the Spirit Pill, Advancing to Holding Core Realm_5

”The Pearl Gatherer was very anxious, but General Clam bore no malice toward humans and told her that he was the River God of this river, commanding three thousand Clam Soldiers to suppress this basin.”

”The Pearl Gatherer quickly paid her respects, and seeing her injured, General Clam sent her to the Water Mansion to heal. Then, as in all mythic stories, as time passed, the two fell in love.”

”The love-struck General Clam wanted to share his best with the Pearl Gatherer, so he took out his inner shell, a golden pearl, which he had cultivated for a thousand years, for her to see.”

”This golden pearl, a product of General Clam’s thousand-year cultivation, was immensely beneficial to mortals; one could say that simply wearing it regularly could prolong life, and even those with serious illnesses could recover in just two or three days if they wore the pearl.”

”The injury to the Pearl Gatherer’s foot was cured by the power of this golden pearl.”

”After living in the river for some time, the Pearl Gatherer told General Clam that she needed to return home, where her parents were waiting for her.”

”Though reluctant, General Clam still sent the Pearl Gatherer back home. After returning, she told her father about her extraordinary encounter and pleaded for his blessing to be with General Clam.”

”Upon hearing that General Clam had a golden pearl, the father recalled that the Emperor had issued a Treasure Reward Order, promising high positions and wealth to those who offered treasures, which could make one’s fortune overnight. The father immediately schemed to get the golden pearl from General Clam.”

”Thus, both parents staged a scene, claiming the mother was gravely ill and beyond medical help; the only thing that could possibly save her was General Clam’s golden pearl.”

”So they hoped the Pearl Gatherer would ask General Clam to lend them the golden pearl, promising her that it would be for just three days. ’Just three days to heal your mother’s illness, and then immediately return the pearl to General Clam. My daughter, do you really want to watch your mother die?’”

”After hearing this, seeing her mother critically ill, the Pearl Gatherer had no choice but to go to the Mianshui River, find General Clam, and tearfully beg to borrow the golden pearl.”

”Originally, General Clam did not want to lend it. This pearl was not only his inner shell but also the River Guardian Pearl of Mianshui River and was not supposed to leave the river lightly, much less be taken onto the riverbank.”

”Otherwise, it would be a violation of celestial laws, and the consequences would be severe.”

”But love always clouds judgment. Seeing the Pearl Gatherer cry desperately for her mother, General Clam couldn’t refuse her. In the end, he agreed to lend the pearl, but it had to be returned within three days, otherwise, if Heaven noticed, he would be finished.”

”The Pearl Gatherer promised to return the pearl after three days.”

”But once the pearl was brought back home, the greedy father was overjoyed. Ignoring the Pearl Gatherer’s objections, he moved the family overnight, heading directly to the Capital to present the treasure, securing a life of glory and riches.”

”It was then that the Pearl Gatherer realized her father’s true intentions. She was frantic because she knew that if she did not return the golden pearl after three days, General Clam would be punished by celestial laws, and the kind-hearted General Clam would suffer a terrifying divine punishment!”

”She pleaded with her father, but how could her profit-blinded father listen to her? He even locked her up.”

”Just like that, three days passed, and General Clam waited in the water, expecting the Pearl Gatherer to come and return the golden pearl. But she didn’t come within the agreed three days.”

”This immediately panicked General Clam. By the fourth day, the Pearl Gatherer still hadn’t shown up; the fifth day, the sixth day, the seventh day... she didn’t come, she didn’t come, the Pearl Gatherer never came.”

”This immediately angered General Clam. Enraged, he rode a colossal wave to Mianshui City, threatening to flood the city and have the entire populace buried with him.”

”This alarmed the Mianshui County Magistrate, who was terrified upon hearing the news and promptly reported it to the court.”

”By then, Heaven had already become aware of General Clam’s actions. The court sent the Dragon King to hold him accountable, and upon learning about the situation, he put pressure on the court.”

”Seeing that even Heaven was enraged, the court realized they couldn’t keep the golden pearl, so the Emperor ordered the Pearl Gatherer’s family to be bound and sent back to Mianshui to die as an apology.”

”That day, the waters of Mianshui rose ninety-nine feet, engulfing the county city of Mianshui. On the city walls, the Pearl Gatherer’s family was bound.”

”The Dragon King, hidden beyond the heavens, gave General Clam thirty minutes to resolve the matter.”

”Carrying boundless fury, General Clam rode the waves and called out to the Pearl Gatherer from afar at the city gate, ’Why did you deceive me?’”

”The Pearl Gatherer, mortified and at a loss for words, simply said to General Clam, ’I have wronged you.’”

”Then she drew her sword and killed herself.”

”General Clam was dumbstruck. Though his heart was filled with a myriad of anger, he had never truly intended to kill the Pearl Gatherer, yet she died because of him.”

”General Clam held the dead body of the Pearl Gatherer and cried out, ’You cannot die!’ and then used his divine power to sustain her life.”

”With her breath as thin as a thread, the Pearl Gatherer said, ’I have wronged you, withdraw the flood. The common people are innocent. All of this is my fault; I caused you to lose the pearl and to be punished by Heaven.’”

”Crying, General Clam said, ’It’s okay, I’m not afraid, but you cannot die, you cannot die, I love you...’”

”With her last breath, the Pearl Gatherer said, ’I have let you down. I hope that after my death, I can turn into a pearl and forever be by your side...’”

”In the end, the Pearl Gatherer transformed into two pearls and sank into the depths of Mianshui, thus giving our Mianshui pearls their lustrous color and special value.”
