Chapter 704: Chapter 200 The Unparalleled Master and Ni Wenjun’s Letter_5

Among them, the Sect Hierarch and the Two Venerables, together known as the Zoroastrian Three Venerables, were the true upper echelons of the Zoroastrian Sect, consisting of the Zoroastrian Sect Master, the Unmoving Ming King Han Shantong.

Then there were the Left and Right Venerables, the Left Venerable, Laughing Buddha Peng Yingyu, and the Right Venerable, Yushan Monk Liu Futong.

The trio had once been acclaimed as the ”Iron Wall of the World”. Back then, the number one in the world, the Daqian Imperial Advisor, Living Buddha Basiba, had once gone to challenge the Zoroastrian Sect.

At that time, when the three Venerables came forth together, they surprisingly forced Basiba, then known as the finest in the world, to retreat in defeat. It was even rumored that the court would never attack Bright Peak if the three Venerables of the Zoroastrian Sect were present, as they simply couldn’t be defeated.

Thus, the trio’s fame spread far and wide, and they were regarded as comparable to the top figure in the world.

Moreover, all three ranked among the top ten masters on the Heavenly List.

Among them, the Sect Hierarch Han Shantong was even ranked second in the world, just after Master Zhang of Wudang and Living Buddha Basiba.

And Peng Yingyu ranked sixth, known as the Laughing Buddha.

Originally, with the three Venerables, the Zoroastrian Sect was already formidable enough to dominate the world, but thirteen years ago, the trio suddenly split due to doctrinal differences.

Peng Yingyu and Han Shantong debated on Bright Peak for seven days and nights, which ultimately led to Peng Yingyu’s departure from the Zoroastrian Sect, significantly weakening its strength.

And those who left the Zoroastrian Sect with Peng Yingyu included the foremost among the Four Great Dharma Kings.

Fang Guozhen, known as the Sea Dragon.

Later, Fang Guozhen went to the coastal region of Taizhou and formed the Divine Dragon Sect, carving out a territory at sea and becoming a major nuisance to the court.

Peng Yingyu also entered Jiangnan to preach and founded the Maitreya Sect, also called the Southern Red Cloth or Southern Fire Worship.

But why would such a heavyweight come to Mianshui County?

For the mere Medicine King Treasure?

Chen Jie didn’t believe that the Medicine King Treasure could attract a renowned powerhouse like Peng Yingyu to seek it out, especially since the most valuable item within the Medicine King Treasure, the Fire Phoenix Pill, was already taken by the Undying Bird Han Miaozhen.

And with Peng Yingyu’s stature, he probably wouldn’t care much about the Fire Phoenix Pill, let alone come specifically for the Medicine King Treasure.

But if he was not after the Medicine King Treasure, what was he after?

Chen Jie fell into deep thought, unable to figure it out, completely at a loss.

While pondering, Chen Jie looked at the second piece of intelligence, which stated that Peng Yingyu practiced Hinayana Buddhism, enjoyed good wine and meat, and was known as a playboy monk.

Hinayana Buddhism, Chen Jie knew, was about the self.

Buddhist teachings are divided into Mahayana and Hinayana. Mahayana Buddhism, as we understand it, emphasizes converting people, promoting good deeds and morality, and ultimately achieving great transformation, becoming a Buddha after death.

But Hinayana Buddhism is different; Hinayana Buddhism focuses on the belief, ”I am the Buddha.”

Practicing Buddhism means cultivating oneself, aiming for self-enlightenment. That is, if he believes eating meat and drinking doesn’t hinder his path to enlightenment, then eating meat and drinking are not considered obstacles to his practice; it can even aid his Buddhist cultivation.

This is the power of Hinayana Buddhism, with its emphasis on mind-alone.

If he so wishes, he could even regard killing as part of his practice; the more he kills, the better his cultivation, until one day he attains Buddhahood.

This is Hinayana Buddhism, unconcerned with worldly perspectives.

Chen Jie narrowed his eyes, deriving a clear message from the intelligence, about good wine and meat.

Thinking this, Chen Jie’s eyes brightened, and he shouted, ”Ah Tun, get two jars of fine wine from the cellar and prepare some beef to accompany the drink.”

”Beef?”

Ah Tun paused for a moment but quickly went to prepare.

While Ah Tun was busy, Chen Jie glanced again at the Buddha Beads in his hand, made of Earth Element Wood, a very valuable material. Moreover, great cultivation techniques, the Great Wisdom Palm, were inscribed on these beads.

It might sound rather ordinary, but Buddhist teachings emphasize great wisdom and intelligence, both of which are very important. And since the Great Wisdom Palm was inscribed onto this Earth Element Wood, it was unlikely to be a simple technique.

Chen Jie thought about giving the Buddha Beads back to his wife and asked her to take good care of them.

The Buddha Beads were very valuable, and Chen Jie liked them too. However, regular wearing of the beads could enhance physical health, and Chen Jie was more concerned about Su Yunjin’s health right now.

So he decided to give them to Su Yunjin.

While Chen Jie was considering this, on the other side, Chen Heng rushed back hurriedly and said, ”Gang Leader, I’ve found it, the monk has been found!”

”Oh, where?”

Upon hearing this, Chen Jie’s eyes widened as he looked towards Chen Heng. Chen Heng said, ”Tiger Head Street.”

Hearing this, Chen Jie asked Chen Heng, ”What is he doing at Tiger Head Street?”

”Looking for wine!”

As Chen Heng spoke, Chen Jie was momentarily stunned, almost unable to believe that such a great expert would be searching everywhere just to drink wine.

But thinking about it made Chen Jie laugh; that was just the uniqueness of Monk Peng.

Monk Peng practiced Hinayana Buddhism, focusing on the self, meaning if he wanted to eat meat, he had to have meat; if he wanted to drink wine, he needed to find wine.

In our view, a master should be reserved, aloof to such worldly matters, a true ascetic.

But for Monk Peng, that would be pretense, and pretense was what he did not want; thus, he never pretended. This was Monk Peng’s path of cultivation, focusing on the self.

With these thoughts, Chen Jie asked Chen Heng, ”From which direction to which direction did he search?”

Chen Heng replied, ”Hmm, he headed towards Peace Street.”

Chen Jie narrowed his eyes and said, ”Good, very good. In that case, let’s go to Peace Street, to Songhe Restaurant, with my cellar-stored fine wine, and set a trap to invite the monk in.”
