Daily Intelligence System: Don't Kill Me, Honey!

Chapter 558: Chapter 176 Chen Jie: Nan Batian, you look like a dog!_3

Nan Batian, struggling to contain his humiliation and rage, looked at Yelu and said, ”Lord Yelu, this is a trap set by Chen Jiusi, he deliberately framed me, just to force me to kowtow!”

Yelu glanced at Nan Batian and said, ”If you didn’t want to kill him, why did you fall for his trap? Now look what’s happened, Chen Jiusi isn’t in collusion with the Zoroastrian Sect, and you’ve stirred up such a mess in Mianshui County, everyone is in disarray. You’d better pray that the Zoroastrian Sect doesn’t cause any more trouble during this time, otherwise...”

Yelu left the sentence hanging, but Nan Batian had understood. His face turned ugly, ”Great, I pour my heart and soul into serving you, not only abandoning my dignity, and now you want to discard me like a used tool, letting me shoulder all the consequences. You truly are ruthless!”

Thinking this, a mixture of anger, grievance, and humiliation surged within Nan Batian, and he only wanted to say one thing: ”Damn, I really have it tough!”

While these two were speaking, suddenly, a cavalry scout frantically spurred his horse toward them, yelling as he ran, ”Lord, something’s wrong, something’s terribly wrong...”

At this cry of alarm, Yelu’s brows furrowed deeply, and not far away, Qimu Ge immediately rode out to meet the underling and asked sharply, ”What exactly happened?”

Yelu also walked over and, looking at the scout, who was nearly collapsing from exhaustion and drenched in sweat, heard him say in response to the question, ”The East City Gate, something happened at the East City Gate!”

”The East City Gate? What happened to the East City Gate?”

Yelu asked with a frown, and the scout replied, ”The demon people of the Zoroastrian Sect suddenly attacked the East City Gate. The gate has already been breached, and the demon people have gone!”

”What?!”

Yelu’s complexion immediately turned unsightly as he stared at the scout and asked, ”Are you sure, the demon people of the Zoroastrian Sect?”

”I’m positive,” the scout affirmed. ”They were wearing red cloth on their heads, easy to recognize. Oh yes, Lord, the leader of the Zoroastrian demon people was Sun Tiechui from the blacksmith shop. He’s one of them.”

”What?”

Upon hearing this, Yelu’s face turned ashen. The scout continued, ”They attacked the East City Gate, and in less than the time it takes to brew a pot of tea, the East Gate was breached!”

”Wait, how many of them were there?”

Yelu asked, and the scout replied, ”Around a hundred.”

”A hundred men breached the East Gate in the time it takes to brew tea? What about the East Gate guards? Are they all dead?”

Yelu was livid, while the scout had a bitter expression as he said, ”Lord, there was no one guarding the East Gate, just a dozen or so court Government Officials. Sun Tiechui and his men charged, and the gate was opened at once. If they hadn’t been slow in their advance, they wouldn’t have even needed as long as it takes to brew tea!”

”No one guarding the East Gate?”

Yelu’s face changed dramatically, and then it struck him. He turned his head to look at Nan Batian.

The East Gate was under Nan Batian’s control. He had dispatched all seven hundred of his guards to capture Chen Jiusi!

Realizing this, Yelu’s eyes turned red with fury as he turned to Nan Batian and said, ”You, just you wait!”

Nan Batian too was pale with anger. Who would have thought that the Zoroastrian Sect would seize this opportunity? Wait, was the enemy really taking advantage of an opening?

Or could it be?

Nan Batian’s face was incredibly grim. This couldn’t be another one of Chen Jiusi’s schemes, could it?

”Lord Yelu, I...”

Yelu, having no time to deal with him, spurred his horse into a gallop, the animal letting out a shrill neigh. He then waved his hand and commanded, ”Everyone, follow me to the East Gate, we absolutely cannot let this group of Zoroastrian demon people get away!”

”Yes!”

Upon hearing Yelu’s order, five hundred cavalry sprang into action, charging towards the East Gate to block Sun Tiechui and his men.

But he was being overly optimistic. If Sun Tiechui and his group had been transporting arms, they wouldn’t have been able to move quickly, but they had nothing with them. Once out of the city, they would be like dragons diving into the sea, uncatchable.

Therefore, Yelu’s venture was doomed to be fruitless.

Watching Yelu depart, Nan Batian’s face showed variable expressions. This time, he had really hit rock bottom. Not only had he failed to catch Chen Jiusi’s negligence, but he had also gotten himself involved, humiliatingly kowtowed three times, completely losing face.

He thought that was the end of it, but fortune never comes in pairs, and misfortune doesn’t come singly. Now, Zoroastrian Sect members had emerged from his defensive line and broken out of the city. Moreover, the reason was that he himself had redirected the soldiers in his quest to capture Chen Jiusi.

This was like rubbing salt into his wounds.

This was essentially sentencing himself to death.

Thinking thus, Nan Batian turned his head to look at Tang Ziyue with an unfriendly expression in his eyes. It was all because of him. All the events of today were his doing; he had plotted everything for Nan Batian. If it weren’t for Nan Batian’s firm belief that Tang wouldn’t betray him, he would seriously suspect that Tang was Chen Jiusi’s spy.

With this on his mind, he turned to Tang Ziyue and said, ”Mr. Tang, with the situation as it is, do you have anything to say? Didn’t you tell me that Chen Jiusi was going to smuggle the military supplies out of the city in coffins? Well, what now? How do you explain this?”

Tang Ziyue’s face also looked awful, not because he was being questioned or scolded by Nan Batian, but because he felt completely outsmarted by Chen Jie. It seemed everything he had considered was exactly what Chen Jie had intended him to think.

Tang Ziyue was a very proud man and had never admitted intellectual defeat to anyone; he certainly never thought he would lose to Chen Jiusi. After being intellectually crushed by Chen Jie in the woods last time, he had resolved to vindicate his own intelligence.

Therefore, he had continually targeted Chen Jie, devising numerous schemes, convinced that this time he could trounce Chen Jie. But to his dismay, it turned out to be a carefully laid trap by Chen Jiusi.
