The Versatile Master Artist

There are certain realizations that can only be captured in the heart after drawing ten times, a hundred times; there’s no shortcut.

Take for instance his latest completed painting ”Sunshine Orphanage No.5” and compare it to the initial sketch he drew when Collector Mr. Chen first provided guidance.

The painting remains the same, yet many small details have become more refined.

The undulation of leaves has become more natural, and the features of the characters are fuller.

It’s like how a AAA game developer adds higher definition texture packs after a game’s release.

Especially the transformation of the painting using the Finger Smudging Method developed by Koizumi Katsuko—Miss Shengzi provided an excellent concept, yet its specific application still required Gu Weijing to continually comprehend through practice.

Gu Weijing stretched the canvas tightly, casually wrote the number 6 in Arabic numerals in the blank space at the end of the canvas, and began to paint.

Draft, underpainting, coloring.

Step by step.

For a painter to paint step by step is actually something worth celebrating.

Exceeding expectations is a blessing like being able to burn three candles with high fragrance.

Being able to finish a work step by step means one’s painting skills are fully displayed.

Art students while painting always encounter unforeseen circumstances like the color being too light, too much thinner added, or the beauty they painted looks like Zhu Yuanzhang...

An art student’s creation is a battle against various mistakes.

The more difficult the technique, the more this holds true.

Problems can arise not only internally within the painting, but also with the painter themselves.

Knocking over an easel, hand trembling causing them to scrape the wrong paint, or even during important art exams each year, encountering a confident student who only brought warm-toned paints to the test and then finding out the topic requires using cool tones, leading to incredulous tears from the careless examinee.

In fact,

going step by step is a much harder thing than imagined.

In an art joint exam, stepping by step means that none of one’s effort has been wasted.

At a graduation exhibition, going step by step means the work can usually graduate normally.

When painting a fusion piece like Gu Weijing—going step by step means gradually mastering the painting techniques in hand.

”Mastering fusion painting? Hmm!”

Gu Weijing discovered this change, his spirit lifted by three degrees.

A period ago, painting fusion pieces felt like driving a heavy truck downhill, constantly fighting with the paintbrush in hand.

Now it seems this technique has become less difficult.

Many details previously needing prolonged deliberation can now be accomplished in just a few strokes, requiring little thought.

With pen in hand, he paints faster and better at will.

”The role of sketching techniques.”

Gu Weijing marked color blocks on the middle ground trunk and easily carved out the separation between leaves and the distant church rooftops with brushstroke lines.

The leaves and rooftops in the composition together formed a transition of large color blocks from middle ground to background.

Even the same gradient blocks, Gu Weijing didn’t want them looking like a blob with no distinction.

Just by the brush usage here, one can see the role Tier Two Professional Level 5 sketching techniques played in the drawing process.

Sketching provided precise drafts, precise drafts brought more informative underpaintings, more informative underpaintings brought ease in the drawing process.

The painter, when drawing, felt more confident because of this information.

Sketching directly supported the entire frame of the painting, with improved painting results being only reasonable.

Without noticing, Gu Weijing began to paint faster and faster.

Once upon a time, drafting an underpainting took him two to three hours.

Today, when Gu Weijing finally used his fingers to blend the transitions between clouds in the sky, presenting the sixth of ”Sunshine Orphanage,” it had been less than five hours since he began.

Even the twilight dusk hadn’t fully faded from the sky. His painting was completed.

A virtual panel provided by the system appeared before Gu Weijing.
