”Come to think of it, what’s going on with Gojo-sensei?”

Itadori Yuji, who had officially enrolled in Jujutsu High, was naturally sitting on the perimeter of the track field at this moment along with Fushiguro Megumi and the second-year upperclassmen. Watching Emiya Shirou and the others inside the field, he asked: ”Why did Gojo-sensei suddenly start fighting with Emiya?”

”Who knows? Gojo-sensei always just does whatever pops into his head,” Fushiguro Megumi replied absentmindedly.

After all, this duel between Emiya Shirou and Gojo Satoru didn’t happen the very instant they returned to Jujutsu High. Some time had passed, and they had each settled a few matters.

During that interval, Megumi had learned from Gojo Satoru that the corpse Gojo brought back was actually his father.

Much like in the original story, Megumi had long since forgotten his father’s face. He didn’t harbor much affection for Fushiguro Toji, who had abandoned him so early. The only person he truly cared for was Fushiguro Tsumiki, the sister who was his only real family. At most, he added Gojo Satoru to that list.

But seeing the corpse of his biological father still left Megumi with a complicated swirl of emotions. Especially after Gojo explained why he had made such a disgusted face when they first met—it turned out Gojo had nearly been killed by Fushiguro Toji, and Megumi looked remarkably like him...

’What did Gojo-sensei mean by those words?

My father... although he was brought back by a Seance technique this time, he did indeed become an enemy to Okkotsu-senpai and the others.

And back then, he was Gojo-sensei’s enemy, sabotaging a mission that was vital to the jujutsu world...’

Gojo Satoru hadn’t told Megumi that Fushiguro Toji had murdered the Star Plasma Vessel chosen by Tengen. By interrupting Tengen’s immortality technique, Toji was the true culprit behind Tengen’s inability to suppress his evolution toward becoming a Cursed Spirit.

This was no small matter. The reason Japan could suppress so many Cursed Spirits with such a small number of sorcerers was not just because Gojo Satoru spent every waking moment running around the country putting out fires. It was also because Tengen used his barrier techniques to suppress the birth of most Cursed Spirits and monitor those that did manifest.

Without that, a high-pressure society like Japan would be swarming with spirits. Japan’s meager sorcerer population could barely maintain a normal society and prevent large-scale attacks on humans only because of this prevention.

Given Megumi’s ”glass heart,” if he knew the consequences of the sorcerers truly losing Tengen, he would undoubtedly shoulder that responsibility until it crushed him. Gojo, being Megumi’s foster father, knew about this sensitivity.

However, Gojo had still underestimated the extent of that glass heart. He had shared these things so that Megumi wouldn’t carry a burden, believing that as a teenager, he now had the right to know some of the truth. He hadn’t expected his well-intentioned omissions to become the source of Megumi’s overthinking.

’Gojo-sensei choosing to say this now... is it because my father did something truly unforgivable?’

Just as the conflicted Megumi was wondering how to face Gojo Satoru, vrrrrm!!

A terrifying pressure suddenly erupted from the field where Emiya Shirou and Gojo Satoru stood! It was the Cursed Energy released by both men. The sheer volume of it was almost tangible, pressing down on the observers like a physical weight.

Before Megumi could spiral further into his thoughts, the raw power washed away all the messy ideas in his mind!

’Gojo-sensei...’

Megumi stared blankly at Gojo Satoru. Previously, he felt his father must have caused an immense catastrophe, which was why Gojo told him these things to prepare him. Megumi was indeed prepared—prepared to sacrifice himself if the disaster was something even Gojo Satoru couldn’t block.

But now... how could Gojo-sensei possibly fail to block anything?! He was invincible!

In the literal sense of the word.

As the duel officially commenced, Emiya Shirou projected [Pseudo-Anubis]. The Stand-blade, which had never disappointed him, was now unable to advance another inch toward Gojo Satoru, regardless of how much strength Shirou applied.

—[Limitless Cursed Technique]!!

Under the influence of Cursed Energy, Zeno’s Tortoise and the Achilles Paradox—impossibilities in the physical world—manifested once again. But this time, the challenger wasn’t Achilles; it was Emiya Shirou and his [Pseudo-Anubis]!

”So this is the [Limitless]... it really is troublesome,” Shirou lamented with a look of regret, as if disappointed he couldn’t break through.

But in the field, another person wore a similar expression.

”Emiya, you just now...!?”

It was Gojo Satoru. After being ”touched” by Shirou’s [Pseudo-Anubis], Gojo had retreated at high speed as if he had sensed something, looking genuinely shaken.

”But the [Limitless] is only ’troublesome.’ Its defense isn’t truly infinite, despite the name.

Even without using Cursed Tools that can seal or nullify techniques, a Domain Expansion can ignore the effects of the [Limitless]. At first, I didn’t quite understand why. But now, I do...”

Shirou sheathed [Pseudo-Anubis], savoring the sensation he felt when he swung the blade. Having discovered another weakness of the [Limitless], he didn’t show any joy, but instead shook his head.

”The [Limitless] has an upper limit. Domain Expansion ignores it because the Cursed Energy released in that instant reaches that limit. In other words, as long as the Cursed Energy or the raw power is sufficient to reach that ceiling, any attack can ignore the [Limitless].”
