The Comeback of the Cannon-Fodder Supporting Actress

Chapter 599: Chapter 589: The Stepmother Who Refuses to Be a Stepping Stone 77

Anning had just returned from out of town when Liu Ru came looking for her.

Anning quickly opened the door and let Liu Ru in.

”Do you know that Li Jindong might not be Lao Si’s biological child?”

Liu Ru blurted out such explosive news as soon as she opened her mouth.

Anning pretended to be shocked: ”What happened?”

Liu Ru plopped down on a chair, she was so thirsty, she gestured for Anning to pour her some water: ”What else could it be? Lao Si noticed that Li Jindong doesn’t look like him, not to mention not resembling Jing Han, so he got suspicious, and now he’s asked your third brother to help verify it.”

”He really came up with that idea.”

Anning laughed, turned around and poured a cup of tea for Liu Ru: ”By the way, didn’t you say your back was uncomfortable the other day? Shi Man is coming back in a few days, you should have her check it out.”

”Shi Man is coming back?”

Liu Ru was quite surprised: ”Why didn’t she tell me?”

”Coming with her teacher, there’s a patient at our Provincial hospital who requested her teacher to come for a consultation, and she just happened to come along.”

Anning explained.

Liu Ru smiled: ”So that’s how it is. By the way, did Liu Qi meet that girl I introduced to him?”

”He did meet her, but Liu Qi told me he didn’t have a good impression of the girl.”

When it came to introducing a potential match for Liu Qi, Anning quickly sat down with Liu Ru for a detailed chat: ”The girl started asking Liu Qi right away if he owns a house, a car, how much his salary is, how much savings he has, it really turned Liu Qi off.”

”What’s with that girl?”

Liu Ru frowned as she listened: ”Why is such a young girl so mercenary? That won’t do, definitely not, I’ll talk to her mother about it later.”

Anning chuckled: ”Can’t really say she is mercenary, she just lives a more materialistic life that’s all, she wants to seek a good life, and that’s quite reasonable. She didn’t deceive or harm anyone, it can’t be considered wrong.”

Anning actually found that the girl was much better than those deceptive ones.

The girl tackled the money issue upfront, if you can accept it, then talk, if not, just say goodbye, that’s very straightforward.

”You.”

Liu Ru sighed: ”You’re just too nice.”

”Not that I’m too nice, she’s just a kid, why should we hold it against her?”

Anning refilled Liu Ru’s tea: ”I’m going to the Capital for some errands, do you want me to get anything for Fangfang?”

”If you have time, buy her a few outfits.”

Liu Ru thought for a while: ”This kid, I don’t know who she takes after, she just doesn’t like to dress up, the clothes she wears... nevermind, you have good taste, you pick something nice for her.”

”Okay.”

Anning agreed.

As Liu Ru and Anning were sitting together chatting, Li Zhifang took a bus back to the city.

He was thinking that the results of the paternity test wouldn’t be out for several days, and he couldn’t just wait around these days, as he still needed to provide food and shelter at home; he earned quite a few tens of dollars a day.

Upon returning to the city, Li Zhifang immediately found a construction site to work moving bricks.

He moved bricks all afternoon, collected his wages, and was walking back when a car slammed directly into him near their rented apartment complex.

The driver of the car appeared to be drunk; driving in a zigzag pattern, Li Zhifang was walking on the non-motorized lane, but the driver lost control and hit Li Zhifang, sending him flying and slamming into a tree.

At that moment, during rush hour, the streets were crowded, when they saw a car accident, people started shouting: ”Someone got hit, hurry over to check, call 120...”

And those who recognized Li Zhifang said: ”Call the traffic police, I’ll go get his wife.”

Coincidentally, Wang Baozhu was about to go out to buy groceries and had just left the apartment complex when someone stopped her: ”You better go check, your husband Zhifang got hit by a car.”

Wang Baozhu was confused upon hearing this: ”What? My Zhifang has gone out to work, said he would be gone for a few days...”

The person dragged her running all the way, and when they reached the scene of the accident, Wang Baozhu saw from afar Zhifang lying in a pool of blood.

At that moment, she felt dizzy and almost collapsed on the ground.

It was that person who supported her and helped her stand firm.

”Is, is my husband still alive?”

Someone brave went to check and said, ”He’s still alive.”

Wang Baozhu burst into tears with a loud cry.

While crying, she rushed to the car and tried forcefully to pry the door open: ”Get out, damn it, you hit someone, come out now.”

The driver was shocked and his forehead was bleeding, but his life was not in danger; he was just scared.

Seeing Wang Baozhu looking fierce outside and shouting, the driver hurriedly pushed the door open and got out: ”Elder sister-in-law, I, I didn’t do it on purpose, I... can I just pay you money to settle this?”

”You pay money, pay quickly...”

Someone nearby then said to Wang Baozhu: ”Sister-in-law Wang, you better quickly take your husband to the hospital, that’s what matters.”

But Wang Baozhu completely ignored Zhifang still lying on the ground, instead she grabbed the driver: ”Pay up quickly, if you don’t have money call your family to bring it over, otherwise this won’t end well.”

”I’ll pay, I’ll pay.”

The man shivering took out a bank card: ”I have money, let’s, let’s first take the injured brother to the hospital, I’ll cover the medical expenses.”

”Give me the money.”

Wang Baozhu snatched the bank card: ”Transfer the money to me.”

At this moment, the bystanders sensed something was off.

Normally, when a family member is injured, the relatives’ biggest concern should be the injured person, they should want to rush him to the hospital for rescue, not worrying about money.

Moreover, the car hit someone in such a public place, the driver couldn’t think of fleeing; even if he didn’t compensate now, it would be the same if he was asked after stabilizing the injured person.

But Wang Baozhu, this woman, was solely focused on money.

At this time, the traffic police arrived, and so did the ambulance, Zhang Zhifang was carried onto the vehicle by medical staff, and the traffic police took the driver and the vehicle involved.

Only then did Wang Baozhu go to the hospital to see Zhifang.

Upon arrival at the hospital, Zhifang was immediately taken into surgery, Wang Baozhu saw that the surgery wouldn’t be completed soon, she then ran to the traffic police department looking for compensation, demanding money aggressively.

She glared with rage: ”We have elderly and young in our home, if something bad happens to my man, I will fight with you to the end, if my man becomes disabled, you need to take care of our family for a lifetime.”

The driver was also angered by now: ”It was my fault for hitting someone, I will compensate whatever is due, the law will handle this, even if I should be sentenced to jail I accept it, but you cannot do this...”

”Don’t think about escaping.”

Wang Baozhu rushed forward and started beating the man.

The driver, furious and slightly drunk, no longer afraid, fought back.

Several traffic police had to separate them, berating both: ”Enough, calm down both of you, whoever initiates again will be detained immediately.”

Wang Baozhu huffed and sat down: ”Comrade, my family only has one breadwinner, if he goes down, we really can’t survive.”

The driver said: ”I can’t live now either.”

The police scolded them again then started taking notes, while Wang Baozhu memorized the driver’s address by listening intently.

After finishing giving her statement, she rushed to the hospital, just in time as nurses were looking for her.

Wang Baozhu quickly went up to ask the doctor: ”Nurse, how is my husband?”

The nurse shook her head: ”His leg can’t be saved, amputation is needed, and you need to sign for that.”

”What do you mean it can’t be saved?” Wang Baozhu’s legs gave way and she collapsed: ”Amputation, he’s, he’s become disabled.”
