The Comeback of the Cannon-Fodder Supporting Actress

Chapter 572: Chapter 563: The Stepmother Who Refuses to Be a Stepping Stone 51

Xiao Yuan and Zhang Fengfeng went out for a round, and when they returned, Zhang Fengfeng’s eyes were red, and she looked very uncomfortable.

Anning glanced at Xiao Yuan, and Xiao Yuan smiled at her.

Anning then knew that Xiao Yuan must have said something to Zhang Fengfeng that was hard for her to accept, and she glared at Xiao Yuan.

But Xiao Yuan had already helped Zhang Fengfeng sit down: ”Auntie, grandchildren have their own fortune, you shouldn’t worry about my matters, I am not lacking money, even if I don’t get married I won’t starve, I could just hire more caretakers...”

Though that’s what he said, Zhang Fengfeng still found it a bit hard to accept.

”How could it come to this, my poor child.”

She hugged Xiao Yuan, wanting to have a good cry, but then remembered that all this was because of Zhang Erfeng, and she truly despised Zhang Erfeng, gritting her teeth in hatred.

Anning had prepared breakfast, and the family sat together to eat. Before they finished, Liu Ru and Li Zhicheng came.

Seeing Xiao Yuan, Li Zhicheng was momentarily stunned: ”You came to the Provincial City and didn’t even mention it; I could have welcomed you.”

Xiao Yuan smiled: ”I can’t stay for many days; I will leave soon, let’s have a good chat after the meal.”

”Agreed.”

Li Zhicheng answered.

After breakfast, Anning and Liu Ru took Zhang Fengfeng to the hospital for a check-up, while Xiao Yuan and Li Zhicheng stayed home to look after the children and chat.

Anning and Liu Ru took Zhang Fengfeng to the Provincial Second Hospital. Li Zhicheng’s high school classmate is now a doctor there, and Liu Ru contacted this classmate directly, making the subsequent check-ups much smoother due to having an acquaintance.

After the examination was completed, the three of them ate some food nearby, strolled around for a bit, bought Zhang Fengfeng several outfits before going back to the hospital to get the results.

After consulting with a doctor about the results, it was as Anning had expected, there were some issues with Zhang Fengfeng’s health.

Her heart was a bit problematic, but it wasn’t a big issue, she could control it with medication. The doctor also advised her to avoid getting angry or doing heavy chores, not to participate in strenuous exercise; basically, to avoid extreme sadness or happiness and shocks.

Upon leaving the hospital, the three hurriedly went home.

Zhang Fengfeng was still somewhat scared upon returning home.

Mainly because she thought her body was very strong, but unexpectedly found a problem with her heart.

Liu Ru softly explained the examination results to Li Zhicheng.

Li Zhicheng took it very seriously.

Later, they persuaded Zhang Fengfeng to stay in the Provincial City for a while longer, to stabilize her condition with medication first, and then conduct another examination after some time.

Zhang Fengfeng cherished her life, especially seeing how her sons were becoming more successful, with her life improving day by day, she certainly wanted to live a few more years, naturally doing whatever Li Zhicheng suggested.

In any case, Zhang Fengfeng was going to stay with Anning for a while, and as for Li Jinghan, naturally Li Zhicheng and his wife would send him back.

With Li Baolai at home, Li Jinghan would not starve.

Once things were settled, Anning didn’t cook dinner; Xiao Yuan treated everyone, and after the meal, Li Zhicheng and his wife took Li Jinghan and left, while Anning escorted Zhang Fengfeng and Liu Yuzhen home.

Xiao Yuan stayed in the Provincial City for a few more days, visiting Zhang Fengfeng daily.

Actually, he mainly wanted to see Anning, and checking on Zhang Fengfeng was just a convenient excuse.

But Zhang Fengfeng didn’t see it that way; she thought that after all, it was her own son who was being filial and visiting her daily because he knew she was slightly ill. She was truly delighted.

Anning and Xiao Yuan were also happy to let Zhang Fengfeng have this misunderstanding.

The two of them were very discreet, and even Zhang Fengfeng didn’t notice anything unusual.

A few days later, when Xiao Yuan left, Zhang Fengfeng was quite reluctant to see him go.

After Zhang Fengfeng came to stay with Anning, Anning’s life became much easier.

Zhang Fengfeng couldn’t sit still; after arriving, she suggested Anning focus on embroidery while she helped clean the house and cook. Sometimes, she even picked up Liu Yuzhen.

Zhang Fengfeng never treated herself as an outsider. When with Anning, she behaved as though Anning had never been divorced, doing her best to help Anning, but she didn’t hold back on things that needed to be said.

Anning didn’t find Zhang Fengfeng annoying; on the contrary, she rather enjoyed being cared about.

Although the two of them had no formal relationship anymore, they got along almost like a mother and daughter.

Zhang Fengfeng being there also made Liu Yuzhen very happy. After school, she would chatter to Zhang Fengfeng about school, what she learned that day, and how her relationships with classmates were.

Whether Zhang Fengfeng understood or not, Liu Yuzhen talked happily.

Time passed quickly; during this period, Li Zhifang and Wang Baozhu were peaceful and didn’t stir up any trouble, and then it was time for the middle school exams.

Before the exams, Li Zhicheng’s family moved to the Provincial City. Li Zhicheng wanted Zhang Fengfeng to come and stay with him, but she was reluctant; she was comfortable living with Anning and did not want to keep moving back and forth.

Moreover, she went to the hospital for a check-up and her health was controlled well, remembering to take her medicine was enough. She was planning to go home for the middle school exams.

Before the exams, Anning had a talk with Li Zhicheng about the children.

She believed that Li Jingyan would likely be admitted to the Provincial First Middle School, but Li Jingyu might have some trouble. She was thinking of transferring Li Jingyu to the Provincial First Middle School after the summer vacation.

Li Zhicheng figured out a way to first transfer Li Jingyu’s household registration here, then pulled some strings with acquaintances, ensuring everything was set up for the transfer after the summer.

During the exams, Anning had to accompany Liu Yuzhen, truly making it impossible for her to return.

She thus entrusted Liu Qi and Liu Ming to Zhang Fengfeng.

Zhang Fengfeng had approached Li Zhiyuan before the exams; Li Zhiyuan’s family had already bought a house in the county. Each of his three sons had one apartment; now the whole family lived in one, leaving two apartments vacant. Zhang Fengfeng thought about letting the children stay at Li Zhiyuan’s house during the exams and to have meals at Li Zhiyuan’s restaurant.

Additionally, Zhang Fengfeng also moved to live in the county for a few days to look after the children.

The middle school exams soon began, and Zhang Fengfeng personally took the children to the exam site every day, then waited outside. Since the weather was extremely hot, Li Zhiyuan, worried that Zhang Fengfeng might suffer from the heat, asked Li Jingming to accompany them as well.

To prevent Zhang Fengfeng from overheating or getting tired, Li Jingming, after sending Liu Qi and the others to the exam hall, would go with Zhang Fengfeng to sit in a nearby small restaurant. They ordered some tea and dried fruit snacks, sitting under an electric fan. It wasn’t tiring at all; in fact, it was quite leisurely.

Shortly after the middle school exams were the final exams, followed by summer vacation.

Once it was summer vacation, all the children were overjoyed.

Li Jinghan made a fuss about going to the Provincial City; hearing that Li Jingyu was going to study there, she also clamored to go.

However, Li Zhifang didn’t say anything about Li Jingyu going to the Provincial City, but when he heard that Li Jinghan also wanted to go there to study, he strongly opposed it. He even called Li Zhicheng to have a big argument, insisting that Li Zhicheng should not interfere with Li Jinghan’s matters, and especially not allow Li Jinghan to go study in the Provincial City.
