The Comeback of the Cannon-Fodder Supporting Actress

Chapter 158: Chapter 157: Slapping the Fake Heiress 58

The time for the robot competition arrived quickly.

To accommodate the students’ schedules, the competition was set for Saturday.

On Friday evening, Song Ruyi brought a lot of clothes over to Anning’s room.

Anning looked at the many bags Song Ruyi was carrying and felt a headache coming on.

”Mom, what are you doing?”

Song Ruyi had a proud smile on her face: ”I’ve been shopping these past two days, buying some clothes for you. Try them on quickly.”

Anning stood up and pushed Song Ruyi towards the walk-in closet: ”Mom, take a look, where are we supposed to hang all these clothes?”

Anning’s room had a dedicated walk-in closet for clothes and jewelry. The room was quite large, with wardrobe and shoe cabinets on all four walls, which were already filled with clothes, many still bearing their tags.

Song Ruyi confidently walked over, took down some of Anning’s worn clothes, and hung up the new ones: ”See, now there’s space.”

Anning held her forehead: ”Mom, it’s enough that I have clothes to wear, please don’t get me so many in the future. I really can’t wear them all. And besides, I don’t really like these clothes. What I’m interested in is...”

”Studying.”

Song Ruyi finished the sentence with a smile: ”Mom knows, but you’re a girl, and I just want to dress you up beautifully.”

Anning had no choice but to try on the clothes under Song Ruyi’s command, and in the end, Song Ruyi decided on the outfit Anning would wear the next day.

After finally sending Song Ruyi away, Anning breathed a sigh of relief.

She held a bank card in her hand and twirled it, her gaze deep and thoughtful.

Early Saturday morning, Song Ruyi and Zhao Han got up.

Zhao Han didn’t go to the office today and Song Ruyi didn’t leave the house. Even the usually playful and boisterous Zhao Mingrui stayed at home waiting.

When Anning came downstairs, these three people simultaneously turned their heads to look at her.

”Good morning.”

The three of them almost simultaneously raised their hands to greet Anning, each face filled with nervousness.

Seeing them like this, Anning couldn’t help but laugh: ”Don’t be nervous, just like normal.”

”Not nervous.”

All three spoke at the same time.

Then, the trio suddenly realized it was backwards; they were supposed to be comforting Anning, so why had Anning ended up comforting them?

”Ningning, hurry up and eat. Once we’re done, we should head out.”

”Yes, yes, you know the traffic in the Capital. We need to get there early to avoid getting stuck on the road.”

Zhao Han’s face was full of smiles.

Anning sat down to eat.

After the meal, the family of four drove to the competition venue.

This time, the robot competition venue was set in the suburbs.

The organizers had renovated and refurbished a large warehouse to serve as the location for the competition.

By the time Anning’s family arrived, many people had already gathered.

There were contestants who came for the competition and spectators waiting outside.

Anning got out of the car, took her competitor’s pass, and went to look for the staff.

Zhao Han and Song Ruyi, with Zhao Mingrui in tow, waited to enter. After a short while, they saw Xiao Yuan approaching with three people.

Of course, one of them was recognizable to everyone; it was Xiao Hongyi.

Xiao Hongyi strode over and reached out to greet Zhao Han: ”Mr. Zhao.”

”Mr. Xiao.”

Zhao Han quickly shook hands with Xiao Hongyi: ”You’re here to watch the competition too?”

Xiao Hongyi smiled: ”I invested in this competition, um... I have VIP tickets here, which allow us to use the green channel to go in. Let’s go in first.”

Zhao Han naturally wanted to go in early to cheer Anning on, so upon hearing that Xiao Hongyi could take them in early and even go backstage, he eagerly agreed.

Thus, the Xiao family of four and the Zhao family of three went to the venue together in advance.

While walking, Xiao Hongyi also introduced to Zhao Han: ”This is my wife, Tian Mei, this is my daughter, Chen Ke’er, and this one you already know, my son, Xiao Yuan.”

Zhao Han hurriedly asked Zhao Mingrui to greet Xiao Hongyi.

Xiao Yuan was originally walking with Chen Ke’er at the back, but when he saw Zhao Han and Song Ruyi, he quickly pushed his way to the front.

He was sweet with his words; although he still looked as unreliable as ever, his attitude towards Zhao Han and Song Ruyi was exceedingly good, calling them uncle and aunt in a very affectionate manner.

Xiao Hongyi felt choked inside, not knowing how many times he had cursed Xiao Yuan in his heart.

Xiao Yuan was so indifferent towards his father and stepmother Tian Mei at home, speaking to them as if he had gunpowder for breakfast, yet outside he knew how to ingratiate himself with his future in-laws. Truly, this son was raised for someone else’s family, while a daughter is always close to one’s heart.

Anning had gone backstage with the staff, where many contestants were already waiting.

Anning was the youngest competitor.

Not only was she young in age, but she also looked young, appearing so petite and cute.

One girl with a ponytail saw Anning and her eyes lit up. She went straight over to pat Anning’s head: ”Little sister, how old are you? You look like you’re still in elementary school.”

Anning: ...

Why did this comment hit her right in the feels?

”Sister, I’m already fifteen.”

”You’re so young.”

The girl reached out to pinch Anning’s cheek, but Anning quickly dodged: ”Sister, a girl’s face is not to be touched casually.”

The girl was amused by Anning: ”I’m a girl too, what are you afraid of?”

Anning puffed up with anger, and her eyes looked especially moist; she gazed at the girl with an accusatory look using her wet, big, round eyes. The girl quickly raised her hands in surrender: ”Alright, you’re cute. Whatever you say goes.”

Then, several other competitors came over, sizing up Anning, and someone couldn’t help but ask: ”Little sister, which category are you competing in? You’re so kawaii; is the robot you built also the cute type? Can we take a look?”

Anning indignantly replied: ”I’m in the combat category.”

”No way.” The girl who had touched Anning’s head exclaimed in surprise: ”I’m in that too, but don’t you think you can win just by being cute. I won’t go easy on you on the field.”

”Who needs you to?”

Anning turned her face away and ignored the girl: ”Just be careful not to cry when you lose to me.”

The girl laughed again with a puff: ”My name is Yu Hongmei, what’s yours, little sister?”

Anning turned away, but still gritted her teeth and said: ”I am Zhao Anning.”

Backstage, the competitors began to adjust their robots nervously.

Anning was also adjusting her robot in the room assigned to her.

This time, the robot she built was purely for combat, and Anning had even given it a rather chuunibyou name, calling it Zhao Batian.

When Anning first brought Zhao Batian home and told Zhao Mingrui that the robot’s name was Zhao Batian, Zhao Mingrui almost passed out from laughter.

He found his sister increasingly cute.

His sister who had such a high IQ didn’t understand much about worldly matters but, unexpectedly, she also had some chuunibyou tendencies.

Still, Zhao Mingrui felt that although the name Zhao Batian was somewhat chuunibyou, after calling it a few times, he found it pretty cute, so the name was decided.

Even Zhao Han and Song Ruyi got used to calling it Zhao Batian day by day.

Now, Anning was doing the final adjustments to Zhao Batian before the competition.
