Chapter 318: Chapter 318: The Morton Battle Begins

The news of a Level 4 Cosmic Wormhole appearing in the Morton Star System quickly swept through the entire North Wind Star Domain.

Not only the North Wind Star Domain, but even the upper echelons of the Stellar Glory Empire were alarmed by this development.

A Level 4 Cosmic Wormhole—this was a cosmic wormhole that had not appeared for centuries!

The Stellar Glory Empire’s high command decisively issued orders, mobilizing five Imperial Legions for emergency support to the North Wind Star Domain, demanding they arrive within 100 hours.

They were to reach the Morton Star System within five days.

Additionally, the Governor of the North Wind was given an absolute command: no matter what, the disaster brought by this Level 4 Cosmic Wormhole must be contained within the Morton Star System!

But how could this be easy?

Everyone knew what a Level 4 Cosmic Wormhole meant.

If a Level 3 Cosmic Wormhole had the capability to destroy a star system,

then a Level 4 Cosmic Wormhole could potentially destroy an entire star sector!

The Governor of the North Wind was already overwhelmed.

”Immediately! Mobilize every interstellar fleet we can to the Morton Star System at once. We must contain this Level 4 Cosmic Wormhole crisis in time!” the Governor of the North Wind ordered.

His Adjutant spoke helplessly beside him, ”We’ve already begun mobilizing. We’ve even canceled some of the original plans to eliminate Hive Motherships in certain star systems, opting instead to contain them within specific areas.

All available interstellar warships are being redirected to the Morton Star System.

However, under these circumstances, the fastest batch of interstellar warships will still take three hours to arrive!

And their numbers are limited. To form an effective and sufficient fleet combat capability, we’ll need another five hours.”

”Five hours!” The Governor of the North Wind was deeply dissatisfied with this number. Pointing at the star map of the Morton Star System, he said, ”According to current intelligence,

the Zerg Fleet pouring out of this Level 4 Cosmic Wormhole is already advancing toward the Star System Stargate of the Morton Star System.

In no more than three hours, the Stargate of the Morton Star System will fall!

Once that happens, it will become extremely difficult for us to deploy interstellar fleets into the Morton Star System.

That would mean the entire Morton Star System will be lost!”

What the Governor of the North Wind left unsaid was: If it were an ordinary star system, it might be manageable, but this was a crucial resource-type star system in the North Wind Star Domain!

”Count Morton has already sacrificed himself. His eldest son is temporarily serving as the Interim Commander of the Morton Star System.

Following our orders,

he has mobilized all interstellar warships to establish a Defense Line at the Morton Star System’s Stargate. No matter what, they must block the Zerg Fleet’s advance and protect the Stargate!

This will buy time for our reinforcements!” the Adjutant reported.

The Governor of the North Wind closed his eyes. He could already envision this as a race against time.

A Level 4 Cosmic Wormhole... Why did such a thing have to appear in his North Wind Star Domain?

At this moment, the entire Morton Star System Stargate was fully taken over by the Imperial Fleet. All civilian fleet usage permissions were revoked, and all resources were fully dedicated to the Star Gate Defense Battle!

Meanwhile, at the Stargate, a steady stream of interstellar warships could be seen arriving from other star systems as reinforcements.

However, most of these interstellar warships were lord fleets from various star systems, and over half of them were actually T1 Interstellar Warships.

These starships were never part of the support fleet originally calculated by the Governor of the North Wind.

However, there was no other choice in such a short time. Every possible starship that could be mobilized had to be gathered, even T1 Interstellar Warships were reluctantly pushed onto this battlefield.

”My father, Count Morton, has sacrificed himself. As the eldest son of the Morton Family, I will command this Star Gate Protection Battle in accordance with the orders of the Governor of the North Wind.

Everyone! No matter what, we must hold the Stargate until reinforcements arrive!” The eldest son of Morton stood on his flagship, delivering a speech over the Public Channel.

One after another, defense lines were being established at this moment.

All starships stood ready, prepared for battle.

Five hours!

That was the minimum amount of time they had to hold out!

As for their current defensive strength...

They had only 300 Imperial Army Starships and 2,000 lord starships.

In total, there were 10 T3 interstellar warships, over 500 T2 Starships, and the rest were all T1 Interstellar Warships.

”Report! A large number of Hive Motherships have been detected approaching, heading directly toward our Stargate!” The starships responsible for outer reconnaissance and patrol reported the news as soon as possible.

The eldest son of Morton took a deep breath, his eyes fixed on the radar screen where countless dots of light began to appear.

One hundred... three hundred... one thousand...

And that was just the number of Hive Motherships!

Once the enemy was detected, these Hive Motherships began deploying their Flying Zerg Units.

In an instant, the starship radar was almost entirely covered in red dots.

Although the eldest son of Morton’s flagship was a T3 interstellar destroyer, its Starship Performance was insufficient to calculate the sheer scale of such a massive Enemy Fleet.

But in truth, none of that mattered anymore.

They had no other choice now but to fight to the death here!

”Hold the Stargate! Fight to the death and never retreat! For the North Wind Star Domain! For Morton!” The eldest son of Morton roared over the Wartime Communication Channel.

The battle erupted in an instant!

The Hive Fleet surged forward like a collapsing mountain and a roaring tsunami.

For the first dozen minutes, the firepower of the starships on the defense lines was still able to withstand the Swarm assaults from the Hive Fleet.

But soon, this stalemate was broken.

An endless stream of Zerg units closed in on the starships along the defense lines. Gradually, the defending starships began to suffer losses—one after another, they were ”covered,” submerged... and devoured by the Swarm...

”The first defense line has collapsed! Starships on the second defense line, open fire! Cover the retreat of the starships from the first line for rest and reorganization!” The eldest son of Morton still had some tactical sense.

By arranging the defense lines in layers, starships could retreat to the rear lines once one fell.

However, he had originally believed that the first defense line could hold for an hour.

Yet it had only managed to withstand ten minutes.

At this moment, he witnessed with his own eyes a T3 Knight-class Medium Interstellar Destroyer that failed to retreat from the first defense line in time being devoured by the Swarm.

They couldn’t hold...

There was simply no way to hold...

The eldest son of Morton clenched his fists, his heart as cold as ashes.

From the very beginning of the battle, his illusions had been completely shattered.

Just then, the massive silhouette of a crimson-hued starship flashed out from the Stargate, followed by the appearance of over a hundred other starships.

Among them, twenty ships with blue and white hull paint schemes were the most eye-catching.

”Report, over twenty T3 interstellar warships have crossed the Stargate and arrived at the battlefield!” a subordinate urgently reported to the eldest son of Morton.

Simultaneously, a video window appeared before the eldest son of Morton, revealing the face of a man.

”Hello, I am Zhao Chen, commander of the Fierce Dragon Fleet, here to support you!”
