Chapter 99: Chapter 99: Escort Mission · Departure

T2 Hyena-class Medium Interstellar Destroyer · Cargo Hold

Shen Bing was currently taking inventory of the military supplies and living supplies purchased for this trip, which would take over a month round trip.

Some supplies needed to be prepared in advance.

Even so, Shen Bing had only procured 50% of the military supplies, as she considered this to be just an escort mission, which shouldn’t be too difficult.

Therefore, she hadn’t purchased a full set of supplies.

Looking at the expenses on the account before her, Shen Bing frowned slightly, then glanced at the remaining balance.

There was still a long way to go before she could cover her grandmother’s medical treatment costs.

Six months...

This mission was crucial. Although her share of the reward would likely be small, it would still be a significant amount—several times more than the regular bounty missions at the Academy.

”Grandma... wait for me!” Shen Bing bit her lip lightly.

Just then, rows of cargo containers were delivered to the cargo parking area outside the T2 Hyena-class Medium Interstellar Destroyer.

”Hello, may I ask who Miss Shen Bing is?” a delivery worker in uniform called out.

Calling for me?

Shen Bing walked down the starship, puzzled. ”What do you need from me?”

”This is a batch of military supplies ordered for you. Please inspect them. Do you need us to load them onto the starship?” the delivery worker inquired.

”Ordered military supplies?” Shen Bing was stunned and quickly replied, ”I didn’t order any military supplies. Are you sure you haven’t made a mistake?”

Judging by the number of cargo containers, it was enough to fully stock her T2 Hyena-class Medium Interstellar Destroyer with ammunition and energy!

This was a treatment her starship had never received before.

”No mistake. It’s for your T2 Hyena-class Medium Interstellar Destroyer, belonging to Miss Shen Bing from the North Star Starship Military Academy.

The payment has already been made by a gentleman. You just need to sign for receipt.” The delivery worker raised his hand, and a holographic projection of an electronic delivery slip appeared before Shen Bing.

Only then did Shen Bing see the name on the payment order.

Zhao Chen.

”It’s actually Classmate Zhao Chen!” Liu Lili, who happened to be nearby, exclaimed in surprise.

Shen Bing clenched her fists, remaining silent for a moment before saying, ”I’m sorry, these aren’t the military supplies I ordered. Please return them to the gentleman who placed the order.”

The delivery worker hesitated and said, ”Well... that gentleman said that if you insist on refusing these military supplies, you should read this message before making a decision.”

With that, the delivery worker opened an electronic message.

After reading the content of the electronic message, Shen Bing looked dazed. Finally, she whispered, ”Xiao Li... have these military supplies loaded onto the starship.”

”Got it!” Liu Lili was overjoyed. This quantity was enough to let their T2 Hyena-class Medium Interstellar Destroyer ”eat its fill” this time.

Shen Bing stood to the side, watching everyone busy at work.

She was thinking about the words left by that young man.

”If you can disregard the lives of the crew members willing to take this risk with you, you may refuse.”

After pondering for a moment, Shen Bing asked the delivery worker for the detailed invoice of the military supplies and sent a message to that person.

...

Galaxy Calendar 3031, January 20th

A fleet of three hundred T1 interstellar transport ships slowly departed from the Northern Three Star System, heading toward the interstellar frontier space beyond the star system.

Thirty-two escort starships accompanied them.

”This is our flight trajectory. Considering we are using T1 interstellar transport ships this time, we will perform three warp navigations.

We will stop for rest twice in between, each rest lasting half a day.

We will finally arrive at our destination, the Quicksand City Starship Fortress, on February 10th.

After completing the unloading task, we will return to the Northern Three Star System via the same route by the end of February, concluding the escort mission.

Does anyone have any questions?” A man with the rank of third-class petty officer looked at the four video windows before him.

They were Zhao Chen, Shen Bing, the leather-clad woman, and the smoking uncle.

This second-class petty officer was the commander in charge of this interstellar transport ship fleet.

”That’s fine,” said the smoking uncle.

Zhao Chen and the others had no objections either.

After setting the flight route and schedule, everyone began preparing to enter warp navigation mode.

Since this time they had to accommodate the warp navigation mode of all starships, the warp navigation speed could only be at the second-level warp.

After all, those T1 starships were equipped with second-level warp drives.

Otherwise, for this journey, Zhao Chen’s T2 Queen Bee-class Heavy Carrier Starship alone could make a one-way trip in just five days.

”Report, the formation has been completed, and everything is normal. We will enter synchronized frequency warp navigation mode at 10:05,” Secretary Officer Lilith replied beside him.

Zhao Chen looked at the star map displaying over three hundred starships.

After discussions among the parties, Zhao Chen’s T2 Queen Bee-class Heavy Carrier Starship and the interstellar transport ship fleet were positioned together at the center of the fleet.

The remaining escort starships were evenly distributed around the interstellar transport ship fleet.

As for the so-called synchronized frequency warp navigation mode.

It was a fleet auxiliary system that allowed a fleet of starships to enter warp navigation state at the same time and at the same speed; they would also decelerate and stop at the same time.

This ensured that after exiting warp navigation, the starships within the fleet could still maintain a safe combat formation.

”Captain Shen Bing doesn’t seem to have accepted your goodwill,” Lilith took the opportunity to chat with Commander Zhao Chen.

Zhao Chen’s actions were not hidden from Lilith, including the text message Shen Bing had sent.

The content of the message was that she had accepted the batch of military supplies, but it counted as Shen Bing owing Zhao Chen, and she would repay him in the future.

”That squad leader has a strong personality. I only did it because when I challenged Zhang Haoran to a starship duel, she was the only one in my class besides Li Wei who stood up to advise me... although her tone wasn’t very good,” Zhao Chen laughed.

At the time, only Zhao Chen knew he could win that duel. For someone who had no connection to him to stand up and advise him, rather than mock him like the others, was already commendable.

Lilith smiled as she looked at Commander Zhao Chen: ”Commander, you surely have more than just these small thoughts, don’t you?”

Zhao Chen looked at Lilith’s expression and confessed frankly, ”Alright, I admit it. I have the idea of recruiting her as my subordinate in the future.

Her performance at our North Star Starship Military Academy is quite good, although she’s not a natural talent like my sister.

But she’s still an excellent prospect.

Most importantly, she comes from a commoner background!”

Not being a noble meant there weren’t too many complicated interests involved, allowing Zhao Chen to use her boldly.

Lilith understood Zhao Chen’s meaning and agreed, ”She is indeed very suitable, and our Fierce Dragon Fleet is currently lacking command talent in this area. However, that squad leader seems a bit difficult to ’tame.’”

”Let nature take its course. Let’s complete this Escort Mission first,” Zhao Chen shrugged.

Afterward, the system reminded them that they were about to enter deep-sea mode. Zhao Chen and Lilith entered their hibernation pods, commencing this Escort Mission.
