Inheriting a Lost Bloodline, My First Task is to have heirs?!

Chapter 427: Chapter 427 - Gathering Information Covertly

I thanked the group of miners again after I have given them little rewards since they did their best to answer all of my questions, no matter how many there were. They appreciated my small gesture so much that they gave me detailed directions as well on where to find things as well as the names of people that can help me out.

The last question I asked them is if it would be possible to buy some land from the open area to build a house or open a business. They looked at me in surprise and then looked at each other wordlessly. The eldest of the mining group smiled at me and responded, ”All this land is free for everybody to use. It is the only area that nobody took ownership of since it doesn’t have anything profitable in particular. I think those greedy bastards wouldn’t mind even if someone buys it if it means they have less land area to take care of.”

I nodded my head in understanding and thanked the elderly miner for his honest answer. Since they used their time to help me out, I discreetly gave him an extra serving of the high quality jerky as well as 2 more bottles of cold honey water.

The businesswoman in me definitely started thinking of ideas on what to do with this land. If this place has no owner, I can just buy it from the capital’s land registration office directly. I am sure my in-laws would gladly help me with that if I propose it as a joint ownership between me and my husbands.

I immediately sent over my proposal to Calyx as well as the exact location of the land I am interested in purchasing since I do not think Aurum would even make an effort to do such paperwork. Not even a few minutes have passed that I received a response saying, ”I am on it. I will give you a positive answer within an hour. Give me some time please. I am on my way to the palace now. I will have Helios and Xenos help me out as well.”

I couldn’t help but smile on how efficient my men are when it comes to processing documents and anything that has to do with money making. I am excited to get some good news in a bit from them.

While waiting for my husbands’ update, I continued walking and looking around the open area. The first thing I observed was the presence of small businesses. It is indeed understandable that not everyone in this place have the physique and the stamina to mine or carry heavy stuff so they have to find other ways to earn money and live.

I saw some hawkers scattered in different places in the open area. There are some that sell food and cold drinks for the miners’ convenience. I also saw some people selling mining tools and offering services such as repair and sharpening. I also saw people selling mining clothes and other apparel such as belts to place tools in as well as heavy duty bags to place the mined items. The most shocking of all were a few that were being sold by their parents as slaves. The young men for sale looked delicate and totally out of place in this mining town.

All in all, the market looked lively and diverse but it is not very organized since this is an open area that everyone can use anyway they want to. There were no guards to keep the peace and order. There were no designation of areas where people can rest so you can see people randomly lying on the ground sleeping. They even openly sell slavery and nightly services. Lastly, The hygiene is not something to be appreciated.

As I continued looking around, I also saw a lot of miners just sitting on the dirty ground trying to stay within shaded areas to eat their food, take a rest and cool down from the heat. It would have been better if the leaders here at least provided better resting facilities for the miners that work very hard to put money in their already bulging pockets.

I took note of all the pain points that the different group of miners that I have talked with mentioned to me. If I summarize it to a few things, they have complaints with resting facilities. They have also mentioned things that they would love to see being sold in the market that they would gladly purchase. They said that a mailing services is something that they would gladly use regularly and pay for if it was available too.

They also gave me some valuable insights on the management and the leadership in different areas since most of them have tried working under mines for all the areas. These are all valuable details I can put in my report for the royal palace and they should be the one to decide if they want to do something about it in the future or not.

It is just that for these miners, it was too hard to buy everything they need here except for mining equipment. The miners also told me that the hardest part is sending and receiving packages and sending money out to their loved ones living in other places since there is no such service available. They all had to ask for permission to leave the mountains once every few months to give the money personally to their families and they were losing days that they should have been earning more money because of it.

What I find fortunate is that the workers looked like they are being paid fairly enough since they do not look emaciated or sickly. I am also yet to see a miner that can’t afford proper mining equipment, food or clothing. Sure, some of them try to be frugal but that is just normal for all workers that need to send money back to their hometowns. As for their physical appearance, sure they are dusty and sweaty which is to be expected of labor-intensive jobs like mining but I discovered that it is more likely because there was no place providing free flowing water for them to be able to wash themselves up after work.

As for these pain points, as a business owner, it is my responsibility to provide those since if you meet the people’s needs it means more money in my pocket again. As I looked around the open area which is smack in the middle of the three family-owned areas, all I can see is potential, profitability and progress. I will surely do wondrous things in this place once it is mine.
