Sweet Rebirth: The Little Healer

After a delicious meal of dumplings filled with a mix of fish and pork at Hua Yusen’s home, Chen Lei left, utterly content, with a large bag of assorted pastries made by Zhao Nuanyue.

Heh, you’re not mistaken. It was a real, honest-to-goodness workout.

They were in the training room, sweat pouring down like rain.

But it was now almost twelve o’clock, and there was no sign of them stopping.

Finally, the woman got a little sleepy. She stopped, grabbed a towel to wipe her sweat, and said, ”Yu Sen, let’s stop. Don’t train anymore, let’s get some rest.”

Hua Yusen heard her, glanced at Zhao Nuanyue, and continued training, ignoring her.

Zhao Nuanyue froze. That look, that expression... he seemed very hurt, and very angry. And it seemed that anger was directed at her.

Ever since they had met and fallen in love, this was the first time she had seen Hua Yusen get angry when they were together—and at her, no less.

Today, ever since Chen Lei left, Hua Yusen had grown quiet, hiding away in here to train.

When Hua Yusen didn’t come to her, Zhao Nuanyue, having eaten a lot of meat and sweets today, came over to train as well, to burn off the calories and keep him company. She had originally thought Hua Yusen just didn’t like to talk while training, but she never expected he was actually angry.

’My husband is angry, and I still don’t know why? As a wife, it seems I’m failing at my duties.’

So, while wiping her sweat, Zhao Nuanyue walked over to Hua Yusen’s side and said softly, ”Yu Sen, what’s wrong? Are you angry?”

Hearing this, Hua Yusen shot Zhao Nuanyue a cool look and continued to be angry.

’His expression seemed to say, ”I’m angry. Apologize to me right now!”’

”Why are you angry?” Zhao Nuanyue scratched her head, thinking hard. She couldn’t recall doing anything that would make a magnanimous man like Hua Yusen angry.

Zhao Nuanyue’s confused expression made Hua Yusen even angrier. ’This little woman actually has no idea why I’m angry. Have I been fuming all afternoon for nothing?’

So Zhao Nuanyue, ignoring the sweat on Hua Yusen’s body, tossed her towel aside, wrapped her arms around him from behind, and rested her cheek against his back. She said softly, ”If I did something wrong, you can just tell me. You know that sometimes, even though I seem meticulous, I can also be pretty dense. Don’t hold it against a little woman like me. Just tell me.”

Hua Yusen’s movements stopped, his expression a mixture of exasperation and amusement.

’I’ve been angry all afternoon, and this exasperating little woman is only just now noticing. She’s more than just a little oblivious!’

”I was worried you were in danger,” Hua Yusen said gravely, his heart still tense. ”You know how cunning human traffickers are, and this involves the Li family. I was afraid you’d get hurt.”

Although Hua Yusen was extremely proud that Zhao Nuanyue had saved so many children, he was more concerned about her safety. He didn’t want anything to happen to her; he couldn’t bear the pain of losing her.

Hearing Hua Yusen’s words, Zhao Nuanyue finally understood.

So it was about what happened on the train. She hadn’t thought it was a big deal, so she hadn’t told Hua Yusen. Now, he had found out about it, and from Chen Lei of all people. For a man with a strong need for control, that was not a pleasant experience. Coupled with his worry for her, it was no wonder he was angry.

Zhao Nuanyue knew she was in the wrong, so she decided she would properly make it up to her husband today.

”I never expected it would be connected to the Li family. I just thought they were ordinary human traffickers.” Zhao Nuanyue was still shaken by the memory, but she knew she would do it again if she encountered such a depraved situation. ”Yu Sen, no matter how terrifying the Li family is, if I run into human traffickers, I’ll still tell Brother Chen Lei. I’ll save as many as I can, so I won’t have to live with guilt. If I know something is wrong and choose to say nothing, to look the other way, then even if I live a peaceful life, my conscience will torment me.”

Hua Yusen sighed. ’My Nuanyue is just that kind-hearted.’

”I was afraid this matter would put you in danger, but I was also angry that you didn’t tell me right away.” Hua Yusen turned and hugged Zhao Nuanyue tightly. ”In the future, if you encounter anything like this, you must tell me. If there’s any cleanup work to be done, I can handle it for you, instead of leaving such a huge loose end out there. Jincheng City may look beautiful and prosperous, but it’s like a raging fire fed with oil—full of hidden dangers. If you’re not careful, small everyday problems can plant the seeds of disaster, leading to endless trouble down the line!”

Zhao Nuanyue was very moved by Hua Yusen’s words. She kissed his chin and said, ”Mm, I’ll remember that. I’ll be sure to tell you from now on. I was careless this time. I thought it was just an ordinary human trafficking case, and I had Zhang Hong and Li Wei with me, so I didn’t take it too seriously. It looks like I’ll have to get used to a new way of handling things from now on.”

”That’s right. You can’t keep things from me next time,” Hua Yusen said, once again reminding Zhao Nuanyue not to act so recklessly.

”Well, it’s very late now. Let’s go wash up and get some rest. You have work tomorrow, and I have to go to Immortal Grass Hall.” Zhao Nuanyue was truly getting sleepy and didn’t have much energy left.

Hua Yusen used a towel to wipe the sweat from himself and Zhao Nuanyue, then threw on a thick robe and went straight to the washroom. Thankfully, hot water had already been heated. To save time, he suggested they shower together.

Zhao Nuanyue initially refused. ”That’s so embarrassing,” she said. ”It’s too late, I just want to hurry up and sleep.”

”That’s exactly why we should shower together. It will save time,” Hua Yusen replied righteously.

Hua Yusen had a small boiler installed for this very reason—so they could have a hot bath right after training. Zhao Nuanyue had even helped design the bathroom, so the washroom was now a far cry from what it used to be.

After all, with three people in the house training, the amount of hot water they needed each day was immense. Just heating water on the stove wasn’t nearly enough; it was also troublesome and inconvenient.
