Sweet Rebirth: The Little Healer

The next morning, after breakfast, Liu Wenqiang drove Zhao Nuanyue, Zhao Nuan Yang, and Little Red Carp to the hospital. Sun Haoran had to examine Hua Yusen today, so he went with them.

When they arrived at the hospital, Zhao Nuanyue saw that Sun Haoran had already gone inside, but she was scared and hesitated to follow.

Little Red Carp took out her small handkerchief, wiped her sister’s tears, and said, ”Don’t be scared. Maybe it’s just a false alarm.”

”I hope so.” Zhao Nuanyue nodded. ”Come inside with me.”

Inside the hospital room, Sun Haoran had already checked Hua Yusen’s pulse. It was the same as before; his physical injuries were all healed, but he just wouldn’t wake up. ’Could he have been bewitched?’

Although Sun Haoran believed in science, he would turn to superstition whenever he encountered something that science couldn’t explain.

This was a common failing among most people.

However, when Little Red Carp saw Hua Yusen, her expression turned a little guilty. She quickly figured out what was going on!

Zhao Nuanyue stood by the bed, looking at Hua Yusen through tear-filled eyes.

Such a tall, imposing man could now only lie in bed, unable to speak or laugh, just as if he were asleep.

”Master, can you tell me about Yu Sen’s treatment process?” Zhao Nuanyue asked, desperate to know what had transpired. She gripped Hua Yusen’s hand, unwilling to let go.

Zhao Nuanyue listened intently as Sun Haoran explained.

When she heard that the seashell had shattered, her heart sank.

’A seashell?’

That seashell had blocked the most critical shot to Hua Yusen’s chest. The other bullet wound, while also dangerous, hadn’t been life-threatening. The doctors could heal the injuries on Hua Yusen’s body, but they couldn’t wake him.

’Does this fall into the realm of Xuanxue?’

Zhao Nuanyue mused to herself.

’If the doctors don’t have a solution, I’ll have to ask Little Red Carp.’

’I still have my seemingly omnipotent Little Red Carp at home, so I haven’t reached a dead end yet.’

After Sun Haoran finished examining Hua Yusen, he made some notes and then looked over at the dispirited Zhao Nuanyue.

Even though Zhao Nuanyue wasn’t sobbing, Sun Haoran could see her sorrow.

’This deeply affectionate girl might actually be able to wake Hua Yusen!’

”Nuanyue, I need to go see Elder Gu, so you can stay here with Hua Yusen,” Sun Haoran explained, then looked at Xiao Liu outside the door. ”After Xiao Liu drops me off at Elder Gu’s, he’ll come back. He can take you wherever you need to go.”

”Thank you, Master,” Zhao Nuanyue said gratefully. She really did want to spend some time alone with Hua Yusen.

”There’s no need for thanks. I accepted you as my disciple, so of course, I have your best interests at heart,” Sun Haoran said softly. ”But I do want to tell you this: love is what hurts people most in this world. You’re still young with a long road ahead of you, so don’t be overwhelmed by grief. Just let nature take its course.”

”Yes, Master.” Zhao Nuanyue nodded, her heart filled with gratitude.

Her life had never been one of smooth sailing.

It was the same, even after being reborn.

But she wasn’t afraid.

After Sun Haoran left, Zhao Nuanyue, Zhao Nuan Yang, and Little Red Carp moved closer to Hua Yusen’s bed.

Just as Zhao Nuanyue was about to place her hand on Hua Yusen’s forehead, a woman burst into the room and shouted, ”Stop! Who are you?”

Startled, Zhao Nuanyue quickly pulled back her fair hand and turned to look at the newcomer.

’That... That’s Hua Yusen’s mother!’

In her previous life, she had only ever dared to look at Feng Wanru from afar.

Because of her sordid past, Feng Wanru had absolutely refused to let her marry into the family, even though Hua Yusen truly cherished her. Faced with a mother who threatened suicide, Hua Yusen couldn’t give her an official title, no matter how much he loved her.

Zhao Nuanyue didn’t resent Feng Wanru for this.

Because her past self had been so unseemly—and though much of that had been forced upon her by Zhao Jinghai, a part of it was also her own self-abandonment. That was why she never demanded an official title from Hua Yusen. Thankfully, he was a responsible man.

Even though he couldn’t marry her, he didn’t marry any other woman either; she was the only one by his side.

They were like any ordinary couple, living together, loving and caring for one another.

Hua Yusen was a man of few words due to the immense suffering and trauma he had endured, but whenever he looked at her, the adoration in his eyes said it all.

She had been perfectly content.

Zhao Nuanyue collected her thoughts and said with a small smile, ”Hello, I’m Zhao Nuanyue, a friend of Hua Yusen’s. I heard he was injured and came to visit. I hope he makes a speedy recovery!”

Feng Wanru was taken aback by Zhao Nuanyue’s words.

’So this is the girl from Nianqiao Village that my husband said our son fancies?’

’Her face... is passable.’

’Her figure is scrawny, but her hips are wide. Barely acceptable!’

’As for her family background... ugh, completely unsuitable.’

’Though the Hua family is no longer a top-tier family in Jincheng City, we’re still far beyond what an ordinary family could ever hope to match.’

Feng Wanru sized Zhao Nuanyue up, having already passed judgment in her heart: she was not suitable to be a daughter-in-law of the Hua family. She wasn’t good enough for her son.

But when Feng Wanru’s gaze fell upon the motionless form of Hua Yusen in the bed, her expression filled with boundless sorrow. ’Such a wonderful son, and he’s become a vegetable!’

’What’s the difference between a vegetable and the living dead?’

’Sigh... to think that her son had asked Old Hua twice to break off his engagement, all for this woman, Zhao Nuanyue. It was clear he truly, deeply loved her.’

’But Zhao Nuanyue is so young and beautiful. If my son never wakes up, she’ll leave him eventually.’

”Oh, so you’re Zhao Nuanyue.” Feng Wanru’s expression softened slightly. After sizing up Zhao Nuanyue, her gaze shifted to Zhao Nuan Yang and Little Red Carp. ”And they are...?”

”This is my younger brother, Zhao Nuan Yang, and my younger sister, Zhao Hongli,” Zhao Nuanyue introduced softly. ”My master is Sun Haoran. He came to examine Hua today and brought us along to see him. I apologize for the intrusion.”

Seeing that Zhao Nuanyue was poised, articulate, and very polite, Feng Wanru’s impression of her improved a bit more. She nodded and said, ”Oh, so you’re Doctor Sun’s apprentice. What did Doctor Sun have to say?”

Wanting an excuse to visit Hua Yusen often, Zhao Nuanyue told a white lie. ”Hua’s condition is actually quite good. It’s just that from lying down for so long, his muscles aren’t getting any activity. This could affect his coordination even after he wakes up, so my master told me to come by often and massage him to maintain muscle vitality.”

”Ah?” Feng Wanru was taken aback. ”Is that really a consideration?”

”Of course, Mrs. Hua,” Zhao Nuanyue said with an air of authority. ”Never mind lying motionless all the time—even if we just squat for too long, our legs go numb and get stiff. But after moving a bit and rubbing them, they’re fine again. It’s the same principle.”
