Sweet Rebirth: The Little Healer

Backed into a corner by Hua Yusen, Guo Dongmei laughed in a fit of rage. ”If Li Gongming really does get engaged and married to Wu Jingjing, then you can just wait to marry me. I will never, ever break off our engagement. I’ll make your precious sweetheart, your darling Zhao Nuanyue, live her whole life as a shameful home-wrecker who can never see the light of day.”

With that, Guo Dongmei got out of the car, slamming the door with a loud SLAM, and stormed off in a huff.

Guo Dongmei’s final words made Hua Yusen feel a pang of regret.

In the eyes of the Li family, the Guo Family was no match for the Wu Family. The Li family never mentioned a word about her engagement to him, precisely because they looked down on Guo Dongmei—a fact that neither the Guo Family nor Guo Dongmei herself was willing to admit.

’If the Li family and the Wu Family are joined by marriage, what will I do if Guo Dongmei latches onto me?’

He could be indifferent to Guo Dongmei, but he couldn’t be indifferent to Zhao Nuanyue!

’I once swore to treat Zhao Nuanyue well. I can’t let her be with me under a cloud of uncertainty!’

When Hua Yusen returned home, he immediately told his father that he wanted to call off the engagement.

”Absolutely not!” Mr. Hua rejected the idea outright. ”Don’t you understand? Those people are watching our family’s every move. If we call off the engagement, they’ll seize the opportunity to condemn us. That Guo Dongmei has an ambiguous relationship with the Li family’s second son. Given the Guo Family’s history of social climbing, why do you think they haven’t taken the initiative to break things off? This is precisely why. You are the eldest son of the Hua family; you should understand what’s at stake.”

Hua Yusen understood. He understood better than anyone.

But he had worked so hard for so many years. Beyond elevating the Hua family to new heights and ensuring the safety of his parents and siblings, his greatest hope was to be with Zhao Nuanyue and live a happy life with her.

But now, he couldn’t achieve it!

”But...” Hua Yusen frowned. ”Fine, we don’t have to call off the engagement now. But you have to promise that you’ll let me marry the girl I love in the future.”

Seeing how deeply in love his son was, Mr. Hua felt a pang of disappointment. ’A real man, a man of stature, thinking about these romantic trifles all day... what kind of future will he have?’

However, to placate his son, Mr. Hua nodded. ”Fine, I promise you. Right now, the Li family is scrambling for power. With Elder Gu back at the helm and achieving remarkable results, everyone can see what’s happening, and the Chairman is well aware. The mantle of leadership for the next generation is leaning toward Elder Gu. But the Li family is desperate to seize control and will do anything to stop the Gu Family’s influence from growing. A fierce struggle between titans is inevitable!”

Hua Yusen’s attention sharpened. He recalled how Elder Gu had been frowning deeply just before the end of the workday, and a new sense of worry washed over him.

’Another season of turmoil!’

’It won’t be easy to get through this.’

’I really hope this all passes quickly, that the storm will subside and everything will be peaceful. Then I can marry Zhao Nuanyue and start a family.’

After resting at home for one night, Hua Yusen packed a change of clothes and returned to Elder Gu’s side.

Today, they were scheduled to inspect a factory. As Elder Gu’s most trusted personal bodyguard, Hua Yusen was naturally by his side.

When Elder Gu arrived at the factory, he saw the workers bustling with activity, full of vigor. He had mixed feelings. ’A positive scene like this is only ever visible during an official inspection,’ he thought. He had, in fact, secretly visited another factory before. There, many people had a lax attitude, and their productivity was low. From top to bottom, the ”communal pot” mentality was deeply entrenched. ’These things urgently need to change. We need to formulate new management policies.’

’I don’t want to condemn all factories based on the few I’ve seen,’ Elder Gu mused, ’but these observations are enough to prove there’s a problem with our current management methods. Low productivity isn’t even the worst of it. The rate of defective products is climbing, leading to an incredible amount of waste.’

After touring and carefully inspecting the factory, the management invited Elder Gu to a meal, but he declined.

Just at the moment he was walking out of the factory, workers lined up on both sides to give him a send-off.

At that very moment, a man in his thirties wearing a worker’s uniform pulled out a gun and fired a shot at Elder Gu.

As Elder Gu’s personal guard, Hua Yusen reacted without thinking. He yanked Elder Gu behind him, shielding the man with his own body, then drew his gun and fired, hitting the attacker in the shoulder.

He’d thought there was only one assassin, but then another person emerged from the other side and also opened fire on Gu Qingyu.

The other bodyguards reacted quickly, but the new assailant had a better angle. Hua Yusen had no choice but to pull Elder Gu behind him once more.

Suddenly, Hua Yusen felt two bullets strike his body, and he staggered, on the verge of collapse.

The other bodyguards had formed a back-to-back circle to protect Gu Qingyu, but as more assassins emerged, they began to fall one by one.

Gu Qingyu was horrified. ’They’ve truly gone to great lengths to take my life!’

Seeing Hua Yusen collapse, Gu Qingyu rushed forward to help him. He found Hua Yusen clutching a wound with one hand, his gun in the other. With a great effort, Hua Yusen fired at an assassin who was taking aim at Gu Qingyu.

A bloody hole appeared in the attacker’s forehead.

As Hua Yusen and the bodyguards fought back, the backup security detail that had been waiting outside finally arrived.

There were a full fifty men. Half of them formed a human shield in front of Gu Qingyu, while the other half confronted the attackers.

Excluding those already killed, five remaining attackers saw the reinforcements and tried to flee in different directions.

The head of the security detail immediately led a team in pursuit.

The wounded attackers chose to commit suicide by taking poison, leaving no one alive to be interrogated.

These men were on a suicide mission. Their only task was to kill Gu Qingyu; failing that, they would be killed by his men. There was no other way out.

Once the situation was fully under control, Gu Qingyu immediately ordered the wounded to be sent for emergency medical treatment.

Especially Hua Yusen, who had taken two bullets for him.

Without Hua Yusen, Gu Qingyu calculated, no fewer than four bullets would have struck his own body.

Gu Qingyu personally escorted them to the nearby military hospital, giving explicit orders that every effort be made to save them. Although he desperately wanted to stay and wait for the results of their treatment, he knew he had more urgent matters to attend to.

’They’ve even resorted to sending assassins,’ he thought. ’It’s clear they’ve become completely desperate and ruthless.’

’Perhaps the Chairman is in danger as well.’

Gu Qingyu dared not linger and departed immediately.

But before he left, he issued three consecutive orders, a decisive move to turn the raging tide.

Just as Gu Qingyu had suspected, someone had already seized control of most of the central command posts. On the surface, however, everything was calm, with no sign of anything unusual. When Gu Qingyu’s most capable subordinates brought in their men and surrounded the area, they liberated the command center and rescued the important officials inside.

At the same time, they captured the masterminds of the incident: the Liu Family.

This greatly surprised Gu Qingyu. ’Shouldn’t it have been the Li family? How could it just be the insignificant Liu Family? How did the Li family manage to get away completely unscathed?’
