Chapter 1590: Chapter 56: Illness and Death

In the room, it was silent.

A nurse carefully closed the bedroom door, carrying a medication tray, and quickly walked over to the doctors in the living room, whispering something to them. Several generals sitting on the other end of the living room stood up, anxiously watching the nurse who exited the bedroom, and only when they saw her turn and walk back into the bedroom did they exchange a heavy glance and slowly sit down.

By the makeshift desk, several gray-haired experts were discussing in low voices. Several X-ray films were being passed back and forth among them. From their furrowed brows and rapid speech, it was clear the situation was not optimistic.

The door was opened by the guards, and President Hill of Chuckna quickly walked into the room, heading straight for Li Cunxin, who was standing by the window. His bodyguards, assistants, and senior advisors all stayed outside the door automatically. The hallway was already crowded, with dozens of Chuckna’s senior officers and high-ranking government officials talking in low voices, looking worried.

This was the residence of Hastings in Hanjing. This elderly man in his seventies suddenly turned pale and broke out in a cold sweat later in the day, experiencing severe coughing and spitting out a small amount of blood before briefly fainting.

This scene immediately scared everyone around. Fortunately, Hastings was in the office discussing confidential matters with Li Cunxin and others at that time, so not many people witnessed his episode. Both Li Cunxin and Hill immediately issued a gag order to control the information. Otherwise, the entire Fei Alliance might fall into chaos.

Although many people knew about Hastings’ condition and knew that day would eventually come, as long as it hadn’t arrived, no one wanted to think about it. For everyone in the Fei Alliance, Hastings was the pillar supporting this great structure, even those politicians desperately trying to oust him and have someone else take his place couldn’t deny this.

No one dared to imagine what the Fei Alliance would become after Hastings left.

If possible, everyone in the Fei Alliance hoped he could live forever, even if lying in bed unable to speak, his breathing would give people a sense of reassurance.

”How is the situation?” Hill gestured to the standing generals to relax and walked up to Li Cunxin, asking softly.

The Old Marshal Li Cunxin shook his head, his somewhat clouded eyes gazing out the window. His white hair, deep wrinkles, coupled with his dispirited demeanor, made him appear significantly older all of a sudden.

Hill sighed, his gaze shifting to the still tightly closed bedroom door.

Since Hastings arrived in Chuckna, the presidential office appointed over a dozen of Chuckna’s top experts in medicine, nutrition, healthcare, and rehabilitation, working together with Feiyang’s medical team, monitoring Hastings’ condition at all times.

There was no hope for Hastings’ disease to be cured. All they could do was try to prolong his life, to fight for a little more time.

However, human efforts ultimately can’t overcome heaven’s will; Hastings’ physical condition continued to deteriorate. By now, he had already begun showing symptoms of coma and vomiting blood, which meant that his illness had reached an irreversible and uncontrollable stage. All treatment could do was fulfill human duty, how long he could live was now left to fate!

Hill stood beside Li Cunxin, looking at the ominous clouds outside and letting out a long sigh.

The Southeast War Situation was at its most crucial moment, and the Fei Alliance, stricken with internal struggles and external threats, was at the stormy onset of transformation.

Despite Hastings’ support helping to initially form an alliance centered around the bandit army, if he were to fall at this moment, all efforts would be in vain.

Internally, those who had long been eyeing the bandit army covetously would pounce without hesitation, using every means possible to split and tear apart this new alliance. The Fei Alliance would either revert to its previous trajectory or break apart, becoming even worse. Externally, the Western Alliance was seizing the opportunity to launch a fierce attack, nailing the already disadvantaged Fei Alliance to the tombstone of defeat.

Hastings never aimed to split the Fei Alliance.

He merely wished for this gigantic beast to have a new framework, to be able to stand up and fight on its own. A fragmented Fei Alliance could never be a match for the Western Alliance. This massive, old, and rigid alliance must undergo a rebirth in the flames of war, and the fiercest flames were burning vigorously in the Southeast Star Domain!

However, the time left for him was running out.

Outside the window, the city was still in a state of jubilation. Celebratory fireworks bloomed one after another in the sky, and all of Chuckna was caught up in a frenzy of victory celebration.

In the two years since the war began, this was Hanjing’s happiest moment.

The deep-rooted hatred for the invaders transformed into an overwhelming sense of pride and glory at this moment. Countless Chuckna Warriors were racing across their homeland, firing, charging, dropping, and rising to run forward again. Numerous mechas swept past them, a torrent of dark green metallic light engulfing the sky!

In front of them, the enemy was falling. One after another, piece by piece.

The front-line battle reports continued to come in.

With all their might, the Chuckna Government and military aimed to unleash this bomb’s power across the universe, and for days, media coverage of the Resk Star System war situation monopolized all news time. The public’s emotions had reached a boiling point. On every planet, in every city, on every street, excited citizens were marching.
