Counterfeit Hero

Chapter 1564: Chapter 45: Error

When he saw the main forces of the Fei Alliance appearing before him, Reinhardt knew that Bellif was finished.

He clearly remembered standing on a small hill less than two kilometers from position 152, witnessing that apocalyptic scene.

From hill 141, hill 201, hill 152, hill 167... from south to north, the twenty-kilometer front of Sunset Mountain was covered by countless Fei Alliance Mecha, cascading like an avalanche.

The black, dark green mecha formations, like flowing paint, instantly swept down the front slopes of Sunset Mountain.

Sunlight reflected off the whistling steel mecha exteriors, so blinding that people couldn’t keep their eyes open. Endless dust rose from the feet of the mecha, climbing higher and higher. In the end, all that could be seen were continuous sandstorms extending down the opposite hillside.

In the sky, the energy cannons fired by both sides’ artillery formations blotted out the sun. Colorful orbs intertwined, descending onto each other’s positions. Violent explosions unfurled, black mushroom clouds sprouting rapidly, forest-like in an instant.

This image was his last impression of Sunset Mountain.

The Suss troops, disadvantaged in manpower and morale, held the enemy for less than half an hour before their entire line collapsed.

First, a Suss Armored Group attacking the main position 201 couldn’t withstand the enemy’s fierce top-down attack and was defeated, creating a breach in the Suss lines. Immediately after, two battalions at hill 141 were surrounded and annihilated by the enemy, creating a second breach.

Once these breaches were made, the situation quickly deteriorated.

Seeing the Fei Alliance Armored Group breaking through at high speed and beginning to flank from both wings, the formations of the troops instantly fell into disarray. Soldiers had no will to fight, and even the lower officers panicked. A charge from the Fei Alliance Armored Group caused the troops to collapse like a landslide.

That fool Langman still wanted to command the troops to hold the line. If not for my decisive order to cut losses for survival, the Fei Alliance forces might have already been celebrating with drinks at the foot of Sunset Mountain.

Raising his hand, signaling the Judgers behind him to stop, Reinhardt looked around.

Starting from Sunset Mountain, he led the remaining forty Judger Mech Knights, following Langman’s command group, running nearly a hundred kilometers west.

Because the Fei Alliance forces were closing in persistently, several temporary defensive lines organized along the way were all overrun. By now, besides Langman’s command group gathering seven or eight regiments, the other units were either annihilated by the Fei Army or left behind to hold off the enemy.

When it came to holding off, I fear that the Suss soldiers, whose morale had dropped to the lowest point, the firmest action they would take was to stop the mecha by the roadside, open the cockpit, and raise their hands in surrender.

Where they were now was the edge of a small town; the interstate highway split into two paths here.

To the west, the mountains rose increasingly higher; one road led south, crossing Xiushui River, then southwest along the shore to Xiushui River Town; the other veered north, skirting the mountains towards Seven-star Town.

The town had long been destroyed by war, leaving few intact buildings visible. The roads were in ruins, and the sign at the intersection was broken in half. The rusty support, hit by some mecha, was bent crookedly at the roadside.

On both sides of the highway, the Suss forces were scattered everywhere.

Infantry walked by the roadside, heads hung low, frequently glancing back in fear as the sound of gunfire and cannon grew closer and closer. Logistics troop vehicles and Transport Mecha crowded the highway, covered with soldiers like gray-brown porcupines.

In the distance, dust churned as disorderly rows of armored units fleeing from the front line raced westward. Their frantic speed and posture drew curses from infantrymen, red-eyed, who couldn’t fit onto the mecha.

Was this battle lost just like that?!

Reinhardt clenched his jaw, the benign face of that Fatty appearing in his mind.

This battle was the most humiliating of his life.

Since being assigned to lead the three hundred Judgers to Leifeng Star, he had thought he could use this opportunity to redeem himself, to silence everyone who underestimated him.

Bellif’s battle plan, in his eyes, was already quite perfect.

It wasn’t due to some brilliant feint, but because before this battle, Bellif’s preparations were meticulous enough.

He used the Western Alliance’s manpower advantage to pin the Fei Alliance forces on the long defensive line of Phoenix City’s western front, then gradually squeezed out the Fei forces like toothpaste, minimizing risks from the start.

This was an open scheme, yet insidiously cunning. No matter how you looked at it, Chen Fengxi had no room for reversal.

So when Rosenberg, stationed in the rear, signaled the Judgers to move out, he accepted the order without hesitation. In addition to commanding the fifth squadron of Judgers to assist the Frenso Front Army’s offensive, he also took the initiative to attack the enemy lines upon reaching Sunset Mountain.

For him and the Judgers under his command, this was more like a tour. Their target wasn’t the Fei Alliance’s Resk Main Army, and they weren’t concerned with this battle’s victory.

They were here simply to show the Fei Alliance their strength and then await the bandit army, which Sobel longed for and Reinhardt himself could never forget.

Reinhardt never expected to encounter his old adversaries so soon.
