Chapter 231: After Modification: Volume 4 Chapter 20 Jailbreak Preparation

At the same time, the Doctor’s curiosity saved them. Since this card was found in the computer, the authorities could not be sure if there were any backups left with other people or hidden somewhere on the network. Killing these two would result in the person and the institution responsible for this confidential matter being suspected of leaking secrets if problems arose later. Therefore, the two unlucky fellows were spared their lives and sentenced to serve in Abnosk Prison, a place where they could never contact the outside world. Before these two guys entered the prison, someone had warned them that whether it was inside or outside, as long as the secrets on the card were leaked, they would be sentenced to immediate execution by shooting.

Every time this was mentioned, Fatty always noticed that the Doctor seemed somewhat uneasy. Although he adamantly denied having seen the confidential information or having made backups, from his expression, Fatty was sure that this guy absolutely knew something.

Everyone had their own story, though different, but they shared one thing in common—these guys were all a bunch of unlucky fellas. Including Rex, who accidentally killed someone during a brawl and was caught on the spot. He was sentenced to forty years in prison and was originally sent to another prison, but due to a riot in that prison, Rex was transferred to Abnosk Prison and has not left since, almost taking root there.

Fatty felt quite relieved, realizing he was not the only unlucky one. In this prison, there were plenty of guys worse off than him. These unlucky fellas each had a million reasons not to be thrown into this dreadful prison, yet they ended up here. So, the most discussed topic in prison was freedom.

This topic was discussed in various ways, often in the form of reminiscing, like Tou’er and Rex, who recalled their glorious days. The Doctor, Little Lingtong, and others, on the other hand, were hopeful, looking forward to the day when the Gazalin Empire would thoroughly win the war, and the Emperor would declare an amnesty. The most pessimistic was Da Feiji, who was in prison for killing a noble in a car crash. He predicted that the Federation would ultimately occupy Tanville, and before the occupying forces arrived, they would all be executed together, gaining absolute freedom.

Another method of gaining freedom, imagined by almost every inmate, was escape.

For the inmates, escape was not a taboo topic. On the contrary, it always sparked heated discussions, with everyone eager to share their opinions on this technical endeavor. After all, no one had ever successfully escaped from Abnosk Prison since the founding of the Gazalin Empire. The chance to be the first to escape from Abnosk Prison, even if ultimately shot dead, was enough to make these outlaws serving an average sentence of more than eighty years very interested.

Every two or three years, someone in Abnosk Prison would attempt to escape in various ways. The most successful one was a former army engineer living on the lowest level of the prison. Using his professional skills, he dug a kilometer-long tunnel from beneath the toilet. The project was so vast and exquisite that it was regarded as a masterpiece in the history of human solo tunnel digging! Over a thousand cubic meters of earth was moistened and gradually squeezed into the soil beside the tunnel that only one person could pass through, making it both sturdy and aesthetically pleasing. However, when he and three others in his cell finally dug up to the surface, they found that the prison had newly installed an electric fence right in front of the tunnel.

The biological radar would immediately detect any biological signals within the electric fence, so the unfortunate engineer could not make history. Before the guards arrived, he crazily rushed towards the electric fence, burning himself to a crisp. Despite this, he remained the closest to a successful escape, staying at the top of the prison’s escape attempt leaderboard. The tunnel he left behind took more than twenty workers a long time to fill in.

The one at the bottom of the escape attempt leaderboard saw the prison gate open to let in a convoy of transport vehicles during yard time. Driven by his intense longing for freedom, he dashed towards the gate. Unfortunately, just crossing the warning line, he was shot dead. He was considered the bravest, craziest, and also the stupidest of all the escapees.

To these outlaws doomed to never leave Abnosk Prison, even if they couldn’t really escape, just talking about it and discussing the feasibility was a pleasant diversion. It was like solving a math or logic puzzle with countless solutions—the outcome was not important; the enjoyment lay in the process of thinking and solving it.

Even during regular yard time, Andre would express his views on escape. Overall, in Abnosk Prison, escape was a favored topic for passing time that often sparked discussions and even debates.

Yet, no one knew that right under their noses, a group led by a seemingly foolish Fatty was quietly preparing an unprecedented escape plan.

Abnosk Prison was a high-tech prison, but after all, it was an old-style prison built six hundred years ago. Due to its geographic location, it was designated as a royal-supervised special-grade prison by the Morton family ruling Gazalin, but its structure had not been much modified. The only changes were the newly built watchtowers and surrounding factories. The internal layout of the prison largely retained its original design, with additional control systems, monitoring systems, new sanitation facilities, and automated patrol weapons.

Tian Xingjian had already thoroughly studied these prison system blueprints while at the Freedom Front base. Based on these designs, Fatty devised several plans, and the first plan, the most assured one, was now being executed. The main method to break out was to control the prison’s automatic systems, including the automatic doors, sensors, monitors, automated patrol weapons, lighting, external defense systems, identification systems, and communication systems.

It was obviously beyond Fatty’s ability to control all these things alone. Therefore, during the preparatory phase before entering prison, Fatty underwent countless attack drills with the Freedom Front’s technical team. Besides using Freedom Front’s original equipment and methods, they added the Federation’s top-tier warship-grade miniaturized electronic attack system installed by Milan on Logic. With attack techniques becoming increasingly proficient and attack strategies gradually perfected, Fatty used four attacks instigated by the Freedom Front and the ensuing chaos to conduct actual electronic attacks, achieving satisfactory results.

With the cooperation of the Freedom Front, the escape was no longer a lone struggle for an unarmed individual. Adhering to the principle of self-preservation, Fatty designed the entire escape plan as a large-scale assault operation, minimizing his own risk.

The entire escape plan was all in Tian Xingjian’s mind, with no one else knowing the specific steps. Both the Freedom Front and the Freedom Fighters lurking in the prison were only responsible for specific tasks. Thirty-three Freedom Fighters who entered Abnosk Prison through various means were Fatty’s general reserve force, responsible for executing violent actions during the plan’s implementation. Nobles and military personnel were asked to remain silent and calm, using their special channels within the prison and outside to supply Fatty with the necessary items.

Fatty needed all sorts of things—parts from household appliances, a game controller, some telephone lines and wireless transmission devices, strong springs, drills, metal tubes, gears of various sizes, silencing rubber pads, small metal pieces, and various tools. No one knew what Fatty intended to do with these items.

Fatty had been getting insufficient sleep recently. Anyone sleeping only three hours a day would feel sleep-deprived, especially if they were fat.

Fatty’s nighttime work was drilling a hole. A hole just big enough to fit an eel.

Since swapping bunks with the Doctor, citing the noise of the guards’ rounds, Fatty had been sleeping in the innermost corner of the cell, near the wall. Digging twenty centimeters diagonally down from under this bed, one could reach the control line for the fire alarm and sprinkler system. This line was Fatty’s target because it controlled the fire alarm and automatic sprinkler heads and the alarm for the automatic doors.

Since obtaining the parts from Elliot, Fatty fashioned a manual drilling device using springs, a drill bit, metal sheets, gears, and silencing rubber. He would turn it for a few hours each night. If encountering pebbles, he would pull the device’s lever up with force, tighten the drill bit, and release. The drill bit, spinning at high speed, would strike the concrete wall. Although the high-speed rotation generated minimal force, just a few revolutions at a time, repeating this process dozens of times would eventually break through the pebbles.

Time was passing day by day. While Tian Xingjian was nervously preparing for the escape, another plan to assassinate Emperor James of the Gazalin Empire during a deadly fight competition at Abnosk Prison had fully taken shape.

This world is always full of various surprises—surprises of time, surprises of actions, but most importantly, surprises in people’s hearts. The deepest thing in this world is not the ocean, but the human heart.

”December 2061, this is a period of turbulent times.” Reinhardt looked at the report in his hand and smiled slightly, casting his gaze onto the map of Abnosk Prison.
